CHRISTMAS CHARITY
One of the best things about Christmas is the spirit of giving, and it’s a great opportunity to teach our Brisbane Kids about giving to those people in our community who might be less fortunate or having a tough Christmas this year. Here are some ideas for charities you can support as a family.
14
www.brisbanekids.com.au
CHRISTMAS CHARITY
BRISBANE BASKET BRIGADE The Basket Brigade runs an annual campaign to provide food and gifts for people that need a hand — children, the elderly, hungry and homeless — during the Christmas season each year.
THE S ALVATION ARMY 100,000 MEALS A $10 donation will provide a meal for someone in need this Christmas, or get in touch to find out where you can help out this year.
Their 2020 packing weekend is the 11th to 13th of December but you must register.
Find out more at www.100thousandmeals.org.au
Find out more at www.brisbanebasketbrigade.com
You might also like to consider giving something to brighten the Christmas of your local frontline workers — ambulance, fire and police officers, hospital staff and others — who are all particularly busy at this time of year and many of whom have faced an especially challenging year.
KMART WISHING TREE APPEAL The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal is Australia’s largest and longest-running Christmas gift appeal. With your gifts in tow, visit your local Kmart store and take a tag from the Wishing Tree, or this year you can contribute online. All gifts are collected by The Salvation Army. Gifts do not need to be purchased at Kmart, nor do they need to be wrapped. Find out more www.kmart.com.au/kmartwishingtree

N I N JA WA R R I O R PA R K S I N B R I S B A N E
It is no secret that TV shows influence us in more ways than one. With the screening of ‘Australian Ninja Warrior’, we have seen a rapid rise in children (and adults) leaping, scurrying, climbing and swinging in the lounge room, backyard and playgrounds. If you want your Brisbane Kid to develop their ‘ninja’ skills, then head to one of the following playgrounds. Note: Many ninja courses are designed for the older Brisbane Kids and, as such, caution should be exercised when younger children are using the following facilities.

The playground closest to the cafÊ can be viewed from the deck, which makes it easy for your kids to be entertained while you supervise and wait for your order. If it’s chasing waterfalls that you crave, then you’re spoilt for choice in South East Queensland! With dozens of waterfall walks to choose from close to home, no matter which direction you head from Brisbane you can encounter this pinnacle of picturesque outlooks on your next adventure. Some waterfalls are harder to reach than others, so we highly recommend doing some research before you go. Also, please keep in mind that some waterfalls are barely ‘waterfalls’ unless there has been some decent rainfall. THINGS TO DO ON NEW YEAR’S EVE
With public New Year’s Eve events still being uncertain, we’d encourage you to check the Brisbane Kids Calendar regularly for any updates if you are planning on attending an organised event. While larger events like the South Bank fireworks have been cancelled, smaller fireworks events may still take place. For now, here are some of our favourite ideas for a New Year’s Eve at home with kids: 1. Play some family board games 2. For younger ones, set the clocks forward a few hours and celebrate the New Year early! 3. Set some family goals for 2021 4. Have a neighbourhood party 5. Bop ’til you drop at a family disco 6. Make (and eat) homemade pizzas 7. Create a DIY dessert bar 8. Take sparkler photos 9. Watch Ghostbusters II, which partly takes place on New Year’s Eve 10. Decide on three words for 2021 that will define your family’s year 48
www.brisbanekids.com.au
FA M I LY R E S O U RC E As restrictions relax, more events are being added to our calendar every single day. You will likely still need to book for many of these, even if the tickets are free, so make sure you look ahead when searching to avoid disappointment. You can find more family friendly events in South East Queensland on the Brisbane Kids Calendar.
CHRISTMAS GUIDES • Christmas Light Locations • Places to Visit Santa • Christmas Markets • Christmas Carols
LOCAL NEWSLETTER We also send a local newsletter by email a few times a week with events, offers, activities and things to do with kids. You can sign up for that here.
However you choose to spend your summer, from the entire team at Brisbane Kids we wish you a safe and happy holiday and a 2021 where the sun shines on us all.
