6 THEATRE 06

Oscar Wilde’s DE PROFUNDIS Experience the intimate investigation of a world class dramatist and shamed celebrity. Uncompromising, audacious and exquisitely powerful; De Profundis is a one-man tour-de-force performance of Wilde’s infamous letter, written in 1897 from Reading Gaol to his lover and ultimate betrayer. An exciting collaboration between David Fenton and Brian Lucas, De Profundis explores the hero and anti-hero, sexuality, the notion of celebrity, censorship and the role of the artist, while reflecting ongoing concerns through the mirror of time. WARNING: This work contains nudity, sexually explicit material and poetry.

JUDITH LUCY Ask No Questions of the Moth

Judith is back and the good news is that her last year really sucked. A truly awful year for Judith always leads to a great show for her fans and 2014 was magnificently terrible. Think death and early menopause and you’ll be in the ballpark. Always hilarious, honest and occasionally shocking, Judith doesn’t write a show unless she has something to say and she’s more than ready for this one.

It is virtually impossible to imagine the Australian comedy scene without Judith Lucy and, luckily this year, you won’t have to. After three years away from the stage, she’s back for two weeks only at Brisbane Powerhouse.

Ten Percent Terror

The Valley Burns

Commemorating the ANZAC Centenary, Ten Percent Terror will explore the stories of contemporary Australians serving overseas and those who represented their country in Turkey a Century before.

The Valley Burns is a newly commissioned work by Brisbane Powerhouse currently in development by Brisbane’s own Matt Condon (Three Crooked Kings) and Ed Kuepper (The Saints).

A distinctive combination of circus and dance, the production will explore key themes of risk, panic and brotherhood. Brisbane Powerhouse, Dancenorth and Company 2 will bring together leading creatives to shine a new light on the ANZAC legacy. Supported by the Australian Government’s Anzac Centenary Arts and Culture Fund.

Set in the Joh Bjelke-Petersen era of Queensland, and specifically Fortitude Valley, The Valley Burns follows the rise and fall of the corruption and organised crime of the State’s sordid bygone era. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.

GBH: Gonzo Bangkok Holiday

Shimchong: Daughter Overboard!

Part truth, part fiction, Gonzo Bangkok Holiday is the absolutely unreliable narrative of three wide-eyed theatre-makers experiences in Bangkok’s explosive red-light district.

A leader in the field of cultural collaborations, following their smash-hit 지하Underground, Motherboard Productions’ newest work is supported by Brisbane Powerhouse and will make its debut in 2016.

A collaboration between three mid-20s Brisbane creators—Julia Rose-Lewis, Kat Henry and Gillian Cosgriff—GBH will be a colourful mix of gonzo journalism and docu-theatre, premiering in 2016. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.

Shimchong: Daughter Overboard!, directed by Jeremy Neideck, is an adaptation of Oh Tae Suk’s iconic reimagining of Shimchongga, the much-loved Korean folk story of a young woman who throws herself into the sea in order to restore her father’s sight.
