Trainspotting BASED ON THE NOVEL BY IRVINE WELSH ADAPTED BY HARRY GIBSON

A pumping rave. A no-holdsbarred, action-driven story of Mark Renton and his friends, living through the Edinburgh heroin scene of the ‘80s. Recapture the passion and the controversy of Irvine Welsh’s famous novel and then globally successful film in this all-new immersive production where the audience are literally part of the show, including the notorious “Worst Toilet in Scotland” scene. This award-winning 21st anniversary production performed by In Your Face Theatre’s Scottish cast affirms the power and humour of this piece which left Welsh himself “blown away”. 10 THEATRE

I Am My Own Wife I Am My Own Wife is an engrossing, touching and thought-provoking piece of theatre that deals with queer history and celebrates queer spirit in incredible times of repression. Not long after the fall of the Berlin Wall, playwright Doug Wright (Quills, Grey Gardens) began a conversation with Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, an elegant and eccentric 65-year-old German transgender woman who, against all odds, survived two of the most oppressive regimes of the 20th century, the Nazis and the Communists. After hundreds of hours of interviews, Wright emerged with this fascinating and breathtaking story of survival and identity. In this one-man tour de force, Wright uses more than 30 characters—all played here by Ben Gerrard (Molly, Open Slather)— to piece together Charlotte’s controversial life. Winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Award for Best Play, I Am My Own Wife is a profound and mesmerizing piece of theatre that should not be missed.

Landscape with Monsters BY CIRCA

Landscape with Monsters is a breathtakingly original circus-theatre creation from internationally acclaimed company Circa. Yaron Lifschitz and the fearless Circa ensemble have forged a new type of circus. There are no traditional circus acts, no trapezes and not a red nose in sight. Instead, from a world of simple wooden boxes, a hard floor and tall metal structures, the meeting between ourselves and our environment is thrillingly brought to life. Landscape with Monsters tells the story of post-industrial cities now in decay. Metal and wooden objects intersect with fastpaced acrobatics. This intensely physical new show is at once humorous and brutal, savage and beautiful.

Set to a soundtrack that mixes popular song and electronic music, Landscape with Monsters is bursting with the thrills that are the hallmarks of Circa performances. Emotions and bodies intertwine until we discover the monsters in the landscape just might be ourselves… PRESENTED BY BRISBANE POWERHOUSE DATE Wed 22–Sat 25 Feb TIME

HIGH HEELS IN LOW PLACES As the big finale event for MELT 2017, Panti exposes the stories behind the make-up—from performance giant to accidental activist—to reveal the National F*cking Treasure she is today. In 2014, Panti landed herself in a legal sh*tstorm, dubbed ‘Pantigate’. Her speech about homophobia went viral, was broadcast around the world, remixed by Pet Shop Boys, caused a parliamentary meltdown, and fed into Ireland’s marriage equality referendum success.

Hilarious and poignant, Panti traces her journey from smalltown boy kicking against traditions to towering plastique woman in false lashes making history.

RENT Raw, sexy and dangerous, this 20th anniversary production strips RENT back to its offBroadway roots. Queer culture came smashing onto the main stage with the Pulitzer Prize winning rock musical RENT, a visceral story of young artists in New York’s East Village whose dreams and heartbreak intertwine, painting a raw portrait of bohemians living in the shadow of HIV/AIDS.

Based loosely on Puccini’s La Bohème, RENT follows a year in the life of a group of friends struggling to make it in the big city. How these young bohemians negotiate their dreams, loves and conflicts provides the narrative thread to this ground-breaking musical.

AN EVENING WITH

Amanda Palmer

Provocative, irreverent, controversial and wildly creative, Amanda Palmer is a fearless singer, songwriter, playwright, blogger and an audaciously expressive pianist who simultaneously embraces and explodes traditional frameworks of music, theatre and art.

Fans attending the concert will get the chance to purchase Piano is Evil, a stripped down, piano and vocal companion piece to her album Theatre Is Evil, months before its official release date of mid-2017. Don’t miss Amanda Palmer performing this exclusive and intimate solo concert headlining MELT.

An Evening with Amanda Palmer is a super-stripped down tour with Amanda, a piano and ukulele on stage. Reaffirming her title as the queen of punk cabaret, Amanda’s love affair with Australia continues as she takes the stage alone, journeying from The Dresden Dolls songs, fan favourites and brand-new material.

May contain coarse language.

In the artist’s own words, audiences can expect “some old songs, some new songs, lots of feelings, lots of ridiculousness. It's time to get back on stage and remind myself and everybody else that without the music, there's nothing.”

What Rhymes with Cars and Girls

DISAPPOINTMENTS

BY AIDAN FENNESSY MUSIC & LYRICS BY TIM ROGERS

They love their bodies, their careers, the people they have chosen to be surrounded by and they love who they are, the women that they have become. Well that’s certainly what they’ve written on their Facebook pages. Come along and see what a crock that actually is. Truthfully their lives are full of… disappointments. We guarantee that this show will make you feel better about your lives, or at least help you accept the rut that you’re in. PRESENTED BY TOKEN EVENTS DATE

Performed with a live band led by Tim Rogers, What Rhymes with Cars and Girls is an intimate musical jewel from Melbourne Theatre Company that sees two lovers brought together by a conjunction of the stars and a pizza delivery gone weird. Written by Aidan Fennessy, this raw and complex urban romance is a balm for the hardest of hearts, and solace for anyone who has ever been in love.
