MEL BUTTLE

NAZEEM HUSSAIN

WELCOME ABOARD

BASIC IDIOT

As my personal hero and décolletage mentor Deborah Hutton used to say, Hi I’m Mel Buttle and it’s my pleasure to welcome you aboard.

It’s been a massive year for Nazeem. He became a Dad, his sketch show Orange Is The New Brown began airing on Channel 7, he recorded his first Netflix special, and was finally invited to speak at his high school assembly (Rex Hunt pulled out). But more than fatherhood itself, Nazeem is most excited about joking about these things AND MORE on stage!

If there’s anything I can do to make you more comfortable today keep it to yourself, I’ve got enough on my plate: a break-up, a huge year of international touring and working out how to co-parent a rescue dog with my ex-missus.

“There wasn’t a flat joke in the set, nor a pause that didn’t lead to a laugh. No dead spots, no misfires, no flubs."

As a platinum frequent flyer, I can assure you there’s nothing more glamourous than air travel. Except being at home with your loving partner on the couch with nice Barossa Shiraz and a few episodes of The Barefoot Contessa.

DAVE HUGHES HAIRY

Dave hasn’t had a haircut since last year’s Festival. His own fringe is now a face curtain. What has prompted this radical change? Is it a crisis? Is he going through manopause? Why doesn’t he bow to his critics? What does his wife think? Does she even see him anymore? So many questions. Maybe some of these will be answered in his new show. The only way to know is to come along. You can’t rely on a friend telling you what happens. Only your own ears and eyes can be trusted.

LEAN INTO IT

Fresh from taping their acclaimed 2019 Netflix special Gentleman Elf, Australia’s favourite Canadian-American returns with a breakthrough hour. As seen on Melbourne International Comedy Gala, The Great Debate, The Weekly and in the viral video Straight Men, Step Your Game Up, which has been viewed over 35 million times.

Vital stats: I’m 187 centimetres and usually weigh 84 kilograms (depending if its just been $10 parmi and chocolate fondue night at my local). I just had three fillings put in and I think the hair on my toe knuckles are growing longer. You might have seen me on The Project (Network Ten) or hosting The Beep Test (Fox Footy) every week.

So far this reads like a bad Tinder profile – but really, you just wanna know if you’ll find my show funny. Look me up on YouTube and see if you like the jokes. My show will be just like that but with new jokes (and with no ad you need to skip at the start, BONUS).

BECKY LUCAS UM, SUPPORT ME?!

Hello, I’m Becky and I’m a 29 year old woman, which means I’m passionate about two things: getting every surface of the bathroom incredibly wet and blaming my mood and behaviour on the moon. In the past year I filmed a bunch of stuff for Comedy Central, did the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala, filmed a pilot for the ABC, performed my solo show at the Sydney Opera House as part of the JFL Comedy Festival as well as some other stuff. I also got banned from twitter for making a joke about chopping the Prime Minister’s head off, which is ridiculous because honestly, I don’t even have the time! I have a friggin’ show to perform! TOM WALKER

#FIRSTWORLD WHITEGIRLS

VERY VERY

SPIRIT ANIMAL

This is award-winning comedian Tom Walker talking very little and moving very lot. Few words. Many good times. Listen, because I like you, I’ll come out and use the dirty word: this is a mime show.

Meet your new spirit guides Tiffany and Madison and worship at their totem of pugs, brunch and Hamptons-inspired bullsh*t. As toxic as a Trump tweet and as outrageous as a Brazilian butt lift, these demented divas are guaranteed to set off your triggers in this turmeric-infused cocktail of killer original songs and seething satire.

GARRY STARR PERFORMS EVERYTHING Disgraced actor Garry Starr defies his critics by performing every genre of theatre possible, thus saving the performing arts from its inevitable extinction. Starr tears through styles with little regard for personal safety and even less regard for art, proving his talents to himself, his adoring fans and those who dare question his ability. Following a sold out season in 2017, Alex returns to her home town of Brisbane with her latest hour of stand-up. Have you ever had a partner ask you any of these questions: “Why were you looking through my messages? Why don’t you trust me? Why did you make the background of my phone a picture of a dog wearing a bib?” Then the show is definitely for you. If you haven’t, then whatever, good for you, still come to the show! AROUND THE CAMPFIRE BIG FORK THEATRE

Pitch a tent, spray the mozzie repellent and get ready to swap stories Around the Campfire with Big Fork Theatre. There are a lot of great things about camping–stargazing, bushwalks, spotting animals and toasted marshmallows. But the best part is staying up late and sharing funny stories with your best mates! Join Big Fork Theatre for an improvised comedy show full of true stories about growing up, mischief, friendship, and of course marshmallows. Grab your family (definitely don’t get a babysitter!) and enjoy some fun Around the Campfire. Whether you’re a kid or a kid at heart, this is the comedy campfire adventure of a lifetime.

“Big Fork Theatre are a gift to Brisbane comedy. Any show they are involved in is not to be missed.” ««««« ANYWHERE THEATRE FESTIVAL

JEFF GREEN LETTERS HOME

More than ‘just’ award-winning UK comedian Jeff Green’s trademark rapid-fire stand-up, Letters Home is a series of warm, funny monologues. From 1947–82 over a million ‘10 quid poms’ moved to Australia in the Ten Pound Assisted Passage scheme. They kept in touch via requests to BBC radio’s Two-Way Family Favourites, and with most of the UK, each Sunday Jeff’s family were glued to the radio. In homage to these souls and his own experience, Letters Home will be 10 ‘letters’ to Jeff’s family back home. He celebrated his 30th year in stand-up last year, collecting accolades and selling out shows in the UK and Oz. Don’t miss this unique new show from one of Britain’s most enduring, and endearing, comedy talents. "Go and see this absolute legend of comedy at his absolute best" BRISBANE STAGE

Bus The 195 and 196 bus services stop at the end of Brunswick Street at Oxlade Drive, on the East side of New Farm Park. The 199 bus stops at Merthyr Road and Hawthorne Street. Both stops are a short walk from Brisbane Powerhouse. Taxi We definitely endorse a cheeky taxi or ridesharing ride to give you time to enjoy a glass of wine or a bite to eat at Bar Alto or Proud Mary before the show. The taxi zone is located inside the car park beside the Stores Building.

PARKING

If you're planning on driving, get here early and give yourself time to find a park! The Brisbane Powerhouse car park has over 100 free car parks but parking around the area can be quite difficult once this fills up. During busy times we open a one way link road that connects to the New Farm Park car park that provides more than 200 additional car spaces. Bicycle racks are located outside the Stores Building and Brisbane Powerhouse.
