MUSIC

One is good with his fingers, the other is good with his mouth. Beatbox sensation and one-man orchestra, Tom Thum – best known for the most watched TEDx talk of all time – joins forces with bohemian singer-songwriter, Jamie MacDowell, to form a truly unique duo that are “redefining musical parameters” (Nouse). Armed only with a guitar and a versatile voice box able to convey any instrument, this show eschews cynicism, exudes joy, and defies expectations. A funny, riotous combination of folk-pop songs and virtuosic beatboxing that just works, even if you can't work out why.

COMEDY THEATRE

The award-winning company behind A Tribute of Sorts and Klutz return with an electric new comedy of histrionic proportions. Ascending to the throne at age 25, Elizabeth I of England reigned for 45 years. What you might not know is that she secretly considered herself an artist... A ghost-like vision of The Virgin Queen takes her audience on a shamelessly theatrical trip into her deep dark artistic pursuits, poems of pugs, a knack for knickers and mountains of makeup. Part historical fan fiction, part stand-up comedy, and part late night slow dance – welcome to the strange and wonderful world of one of history’s most powerful women.

CIRCUS

The heart beats over 100,000 times per day, affecting our emotional experience with every action. The heart is in control. The signals generated by its rhythmic activity determine the quality of our emotional experience, from moment to moment. Circus artist Marianna Joslin was born with Tetralogy of Fallot, a rare heart condition that went undiagnosed for years. How does such an experience shape one’s life? This is an exploration of the heart… through circus. Transformed, twisted, transplanted, cut open and sewn back together. Modern acrobatics with a heart beating rhythm.

MUSIC

On Sunday 26 November, Tyrone Noonan hits Centre Court performing his most recent tracks – a potent mix of indie electro and post-modern pop. Joining him is art-pop pioneer Pheno, bringing her 21st century science to the wild rhythms of Afro beat, indie rock and jazz. On Sunday 03 December celebrate the launch of the new EP by Brisbane indie-folk band My Nightingale. Expect soul-soothing tunes with luscious vocal harmonies. Also on the bill, experience acclaimed indie roots artist Jackie Marshall and her band. Jackie’s gutsy but tender vocal style (jokingly referred to as ‘Dolly Parton meets Patti Smith’), makes her a firm audience favourite in the Brisbane music scene.

VISUAL ARTS

VISUAL ARTS

Ben Ely returns to Brisbane Powerhouse with a collision of colour for his new exhibition, SHOWTIME!

Edgy photography focusing on the moment artists exit the stage.

Witness the rehearsals and the backstage antics all the way through to the post show come down. Ooh lah lah, it's SHOWTIME.

Sweaty and dirty, the performer emerges seeping with exhaustion and emotion. The Working Class emphasises the extreme, yet often euphoric, realities of artists working to challenge the status quo and confront issues of inequality, gender and more on the stages of the world’s largest arts festivals including Adelaide Fringe and Edinburgh Fringe.
