Lord Mayor’s Message When Brisbane Powerhouse first opened, it was designed to be a community theatre. Brisbane Powerhouse has, however, transformed itself into much more, and these days it is rapidly becoming one of Australia’s most respected and renowned arts centres. Free programs on offer help drive this reputation and these range from free comedy and music on weekends through to events like Powerkids: Little Artists at Play that introduce the youngest members of our community to the arts. This November we have some excellent shows on offer including the smooth tones of Australian music icon Troy Cassar-Daley and an outstanding art exhibition with a difference,
which showcases the art of blind artists from Korea and Australia sharing their art verbally instead of visually. Once December hits, the nights will fly by filled with magical shows and amazing circus performances in Wonderland. This is the second time that Wonderland has been in Brisbane and it features breathtaking experiences and magical memories. In January, don’t forget to make time to welcome back Brisbane band Doch as they return to our city after a six-year wait. So Frenchy So Chic also returns with French Grammy awardwinner Lou Doillon. Then it’s time for the prom with the Brisbane debut of Carrie The Musical.
Whatever you prefer, come and join the community at Brisbane Powerhouse this summer. We have a lot on offer and are here to entertain you all summer long.

Artistic Director’s Message “...the only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing...” Beat poet Jack Kerouac wrote this about our patrons, obviously. Whatever we program, whatever we throw at you, you’re ready, ticket in hand: ready to live and talk and experience something new and incredible.
That’s why we program festivals like Wonderland, because we know you’re prepared for your fortunes to be told; to join an anti-art drawing class; or to find out what love is, one bucket of rose petals at a time. This summer program is for you: adventure lover, book addict, dance-floor slayer. This is your safe space, because it’s not safe at all.

LIVESPARK + MIX TAPE Free Live Music Polish off the weekend with a good dose of free live music and musical collaborations. Join us at Livespark each Sunday for an ever-changing and eclectic mix of indie, pop, folk, alternative country and rock. Featuring some of Australia’s best musicians, highlights of the Nov– Jan program include a Wonderland Festival music line-up featuring Mosman Alder and more. We’re also excited to introduce Mix Tape. On the last Sunday of every month, this free event sees unique collaborations between singer-songwriters.
Three different musicians will be brought together to discuss the music that inspires them and to perform their own mix tape of original songs or covers. POWERKIDS Little Artists at Play WITH IMAGINARY THEATRE With a new host-artist every three months, this free weekly kids event is the perfect place for you and your family to relax, play and learn. Little Artists at Play is a creative play workshop series for children aged 0–5 years. Each week a host-artist from Imaginary Theatre will collaborate with the group on unique and engaging activities. From theatre and visual art to dance, music and digital media, there will be something to inspire everyone.
From Oct–Dec we’ll be joined by Brisbane multi-disciplinary artist Nathan Stoneham. With your help he’ll create an adventurous Play Factory, filled with bustling activity, exciting machines and free-play. From Jan–Mar 2016 we’ll be joined by performance maker Verena Curr with Storyscapes, a storytelling adventure, rich with sounds, actions, visuals and other tactile experiences.

TROY CASSARDALEY: A Big Country See this Australian country music icon take on big band classics alongside tracks from his latest album. Troy Cassar-Daley is a household name, a prodigious talent and the recipient of dozens of Golden Guitar, ARIA and APRA awards. Artworks by members of the blind communities of Seoul and Brisbane are described, not displayed, in this unique new exhibition. Each artwork is locked inside a cabinet, never to be seen. You’ll listen to audio recordings from each artist describing their work, or sharing an insight into their lives. This way you’ll form your own impressions of the artwork without relying on sight.

Now in its 15th year, Politics in the Pub is a free, all-ages community forum that aims to raise awareness and engagement in local or topical issues.
A design forum with a difference, PechaKucha operates under the patented format of 20 slides, each shown for 20 seconds, as pioneered by Klein Dytham Architecture and originally debuted in Tokyo in 2003. Now an anticipated night in the creative calendar, these relaxed sessions allow designers to present and showcase their work, skills and ideas amongst Brisbane’s best and brightest creative thinkers.
