FOREWORD
Hello and welcome to our new home.
After twelve years at our beloved Latitude 30, three years (if you count the one that almost happened in 2020) at The Courtyard / Cedar St, last Summer it was time to move again.
On a site visit to scope out new venue options in September, there was one very clear and obvious choice - The Backyard at The Sheraton. Moving from a single stage indoor venue to a two stage outdoor venue would not be without its challenges, but SXSW is all about ambition. UK acts make the long and expensive journey to Austin to try to break into international markets, and The British Music Embassy strives to match that ambition.
Two stages means we can offer more opportunities to more UK artists. More acts will play across the week of SXSW than ever before, and for the first time in the beating heart of The Live Music Capital of The World, Austin’s music venue district Red River. The main drag of Red River puts us in illustrious company, nearby two of the city’s key venues for US tours, Mohawk and Stubbs, amongst many others.
Our shows at SXSW have had numerous highlights over the years: Wet Leg, Dave, Jungle, Little Simz, Glass Animals & IDLES to name but a few... And we always go into the festival wondering who will be this year’s stand out acts. Stop by any day this week at 650 East 10th St. to find out.

BPI
Austin – its nice to be back!
Last year’s BME was an eventful week with some off the scale performances backed up by an excellent crew and the amazing sound system provided by Bowers & Wilkins. SXSW is not just about the acts on stage though – the Music Tech part of the BME (UK House) is a massively important showcase for UK companies and we are anticipating great things from this year’s attendees. Back to the music it was great to see so many BME alumni feature in the (BPI organised) Mercury Prize shortlist with Ezra Collective rightly scooping the top prize. This year our BRIT Awards nominations have another impressive collection of talent that have kick started their careers at SXSW – who knows what the future will bring for this year’s artists? We hope you will enjoy the full British Experience at SXSW - please just clear a path for us to Cooper’s BBQ!
Chris Tams BPI
This year’s BME focuses on the (crazy/ shiny/ powerful/ cool) new technologies bringing the music industry into the future. And these aren’t just ‘music tech’ –join us for a deep dive into the ‘best of British’ tech talent and innovative ideas, with verticals into music but also the world of Games, Healthcare, AI, Film, Data, Advertising and more. Our British talent extends way beyond our incredible music exports, with truly world-class companies taking to the stage at UK House, courtesy of the BPI Innovation team. We’re also delighted to see some of our startups make it to the finals of the SXSW pitch competition. We’re looking forward to mindbending talks, dashing around the convention centre racking up tens of thousands of steps, and connecting with some of the coolest people and ideas in the world.

PRS FOR MUSIC
Each year, the British Music Embassy (BME) celebrates the rich diversity of the UK music scene. PRS for Music is delighted to return as one of the key partners, alongside our charity arm PRS Foundation, to power this takeover at The Backyard.
For 110 years we have championed our global community of trailblazing songwriters, composers, and music publishers.
Our continued investment into the BME allows us to provide a springboard for emerging artists and our members to showcase their music on an international stage. There is no doubt in our minds that their dedication and passion will leave a lasting impression on audiences and will elevate their careers around the world.
PPL
PPL turns 90 this year, and we are so delighted to be back at SXSW, tapping our nonagenarian toes to the latest brilliant new UK artists showcasing at the British Music Embassy. PPL knows the value of collaboration, and the BME delivers on that in spades – it’s a real team effort across all the partners, each bringing their strengths to the party, to get the show on the road. And a show it certainly is, with artists like Dave, Sam Fender and Self Esteem all veterans of the BME stage. We’ve been supporting the Embassy since it started in 2008, helping our members to grow their earnings
and ensuring they are paid when their music gets played. Without supporting emerging performers to tour, to build their stories, to hone their craft, there will be no music industry in the future. It’s why we are so passionate about getting the brightest British talent to Austin and beyond, providing our support through the BME and the International Showcase Fund. And enjoying some tacos with hot sauce too. But mostly, the music.

JASMINE TAKHAR
I’ve championed the new music scene for so many years so being able to do that internationally, with the BBC, at such a well recognised festival is a dream come true. This will be my first time hosting at SXSW and bringing all the exciting new talent the UK has to offer is going to be special. I’m big on diversity and I know this year is going to be a monumental moment for many of the acts performing for the first time in Texas and the acts selected from all the introducing shows from BBC Asian Network, 1Xtra, 6music and beyond will make a huge impact with their incredible sounds. It’s always amazing to see the artists we play on the radio connect with new audiences.
I’ve grown up attending, hosting and putting on my own events to help new music thrive so being able to do this on a huge stage along with the BME and BBC Introducing is going to be a highlight for me too. I’m ready to travel across the Atlantic to soak in the atmosphere, meet other creatives, experience all the showcases and discover lots of new acts. It’ll be a year to remember!
