Peru’s ethnic past, its colonial period and subsequent fusion meet on the heights of Machu Picchu and the neighboring Sacred Valley of the Incas, overcoming the passage of time at places which seem to have been there forever
At approximately 49.7 miles from Cusco, 310.7 miles from Lima and 7972.4 ft above sea level rises Machu Picchu, a true construction wonder, if we consider the difficulty that its location implies and that the advanced machinery we rely on nowadays for construction didn’t exist back then. It is considered, not in vain, as one of the modern world’s seven wonders, along with monumental works such as the Chinese Great Wall, the Rome Coliseum, and the Taj Mahal in India, among others, besides being a UNESCO’s World Heritage Site and being considered as a Historical Sanctuary in Peru.

Machu Picchu is formed of 170 buildings spread in a surface of around 1640.42 ft by 656.2 ft which could’ve been either of a religious or political nature, or even built for housing, since historical research shows that, in the site’s surroundings, agriculture
M any of the countries in Latin America share historicalsimilartraits with Peru, as important civilizations developed to later coincide with Spain’s expansion by being part of a colonization which was left behind after struggling to achieve independence. But it is the present particularities of each different period in the history of these republics what makes each place a unique country. Beyond what a capital city such as Lima can offer, what the Peruvian coast offers, the diversity among mining centers and the Amazonia, if there are places to be highlighted and unique in Peru, we are undoubtedly referring to the ancient village of Machu Picchu and the neighboring Sacred Valley of the Incas, where the heights of the Andes Mountains range become fertile lands before getting to the rain forest.

If visiting Machu Picchu is a bucketlist must, walking through the Sacred Valley of the Incas means, without a doubt, entering a place which provided support and development to this civilization. was developed, with good results not only to then prevailing Incas, but also to non-Amazonian Peruvian ethnic groups which lived in the area previously. The colonial period hardly had any interference in the area beyond those activities related to agriculture.Duringthe second half of the 19th century Machu Picchu started receiving the visits of explorers, mainly from Europe, and with the passage of decades, during the 20th century, the area became more accessible for tourism.

There’s also El Camino Inca (The Inca Road), an important worldwide pilgrimage which takes four days, also from Cusco, going through interesting citadels along the journey. EXPERIENCE AND DEDICATION SERVING THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY Besides having built a successful and outstanding career in the hospitality industry, which at times could be defined by “being in the

right place at the right time”, Rosana Martínez did not begin her career in the tourism sector, but still within related activities. Martínez earned a Bachelor’s degree in Translation and Interpreting from Ricardo Palma University, in Lima. After working briefly in this trade, a friend invited her to the sales department of PFA Martínez, CBO for Aranwa Hotels Resorts & Spas.
Cultural elements on its interiors have contributed to have Aranwa Cusco Boutique Hotel being named city patrimony

hired by the property who would later become Oro Verde hotel, which currently hosts Swissotel Lima, where for more than a decade her career developed into more important positions, from being Sales Director to Sales Manager, until becoming Chief of Sales, taking part in the executive board. In Oro Verde, Martínez was in charge of serving important foreign delegations for global and regional summits with heads of state, monarchs and also professional sports teams, besides the everyday chores her position entailed. Little did she know this was the setup for an upcoming challenge.

While in a sabbatical between 2007 and 2008 to complete a Master in Business Management at the St. Ignatius of Loyola University, the alumni relations department at the university contacted Martínez to tell her about an opening in a new resort chain for which she was the ideal fit. ARANWA SACRED VALLEY, THE CORNERSTONE Aranwa Sacred Valley Hotel & Wellness opened in October 2008. The property is located in the Urubamba Valley -the Incas’ Sacred Valley- near the banks of the Vilcanota River.
