PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Dear fellow Broken Sound Club members: In the March/April edition of the Broken Sound Magazine we defined the vision, mission and core values of the Club that previous Boards developed since the turnover of the Club in November 2000. The Club’s mission, vision and core values Robert Breakstone encapsulate the Club’s raison d’etre as an organization; that is what we see ourselves as and want to be. Today we will be discussing the seven key Club attributes that define our Club in more detail so that all constituencies, internal and external, are clearly aware of who and what we are, what we provide and plan to provide to our membership. These seven attributes are: I. Membership - Our member’s experience is the most important attribute in determining the health and strength of our Club. Members want to enjoy every aspect of the club they utilize. They want to feel satisfied with the value that they receive. The Club is a family-centered, full service club offering outstanding golf, tennis, swimming, fitness, entertainment, dining and social activities focused on providing rewarding experiences for members, families and their guests with a two golf course concept. We offer these services at a fair and competitive price and provide an outstanding membership experience. This year the Club was granted the Distinguished Emerald Club award, from Board Room magazine. The award states that “to be a Distinguished Club is to be one of a select group of private clubs that have been recognized as providing excellent member experience at a level attained by only the finest clubs in the world” and goes on to say that “this distinction is nuanced, yet thoroughly recognizable, for it is based on the most important of all intangible qualities, reputation, reverence, admiration, brand equity and fame.” II. Governance - Our Club’s governance system provides for the flow of authority from the members, to the Board of Governors, to the President and to our COO/GM and staff. It defines the roles of key participants in the governance process and documents policies via our By Laws, Rules and Regulations and our Operating Rules. It ensures that authority follows responsibility and that accountability is accurately and fairly tracked. It provides structure and flexibility and preserves the Club’s culture and community atmosphere. In addition, our Club has a formal grievance process reserved for serious misconduct and also allows for misconduct to be addressed and resolved in a less formal process. Efforts are made to encourage and facilitate informal resolution by actively pursuing a mediation process in connection with membermember misconduct. Member misconduct involving the staff is more serious and therefore the decision as to whether incidents involving such misconduct should proceed as a formal grievance is made by Club Management. When a grievance results in a sanction of a member by the Board, the Board’s final actions on the grievance is published in the Club’s Magazine. The announcement includes a brief description of the incident and the resulting sanctions imposed, but does not include the names of any of the parties involved.

III. Management - The Board’s responsibility is to focus on policy and strategic issues and leave operational issues to the COO/GM. The Board sets policy, establishes the club’s mission and goals as well as the strategies which the COO/GM implements. The President, to whom the COO/GM reports, enforces the observance of the provisions of the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Club. He delegates the everyday running of the Club to the COO/GM who is the key management person at the Club. While managing the day to day activities of the Club, the COO/GM is also responsible for the relationships between the Club and its members, Board of Governors, guests, employees, community, government and industry personnel. The COO/GM coordinates and administers the Club’s policies, develops operating policies and procedures and develops the budget, which is subject to Board review and approval. The COO/GM monitors the quality of the Club’s services, ambience and ensures maximum member and guest satisfaction to meet the challenges of maintaining the Club’s preeminent position in South Florida. IV. Finance -The Board and Management has ensured the financial stability of the Club with a constant focus on innovation, positive results and a total commitment to quality. The budgets are essentially zero based and fund the services inherent in meeting the rigorous service and facilities standards of the Club. It serves as a guide for activities in the coming year, is well reasoned and reflects current economic conditions. After Board approval, the COO/GM has the responsibility to operate the Club in accordance with the budget. This fiscal year’s budget (October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2016) was unanimously passed and contains the smallest increase in dues and service charges in the last 5 years. It included:

NEW

Extended Happy Hour Starting Friday November 6 Bistro 5:30pm - 10:00pm

1. A dues increase of $297 for a Family Member, $262 for a Single Member and $223 for an outside member. 2.

No increase in the service charge.

3. No increase in the Annual Golf Lease fee. For those members not electing the Annual Golf Lease fee option, there is a $200 per year increase in the Golf Cart Usage fee. 4.

5.

Additional services which are defined below.

Our Treasurer is responsible to collect, hold and disburse all monies of the Club, is responsible to keep the books of account and all financial records of the Club and to prepare the budgets and financial statements. The Treasurer delegates the above to the Finance Director under the supervision of the COO/GM who in turn has the responsibility to operate an effective system of internal controls. The Audit Committee oversees all material aspects of the Club’s annual financial statements, external audit and internal controls and provides an avenue of communication for the external auditors that are independent of Management. The committee also make recommendations to insure the staff has sufficient skill to carry out these responsibilities. V. Programs and Services - The Club’s raison d’etre is to provide outstanding service and amenities to our members who set high standards for themselves and the Club. The Club creates an excellent member experience through memorable golf, tennis, athletics, entertainment, dining and casual elegance based on family values. All of the

resources and energies to meet and better the Club’s already outstanding reputation for excellence. Included in this year’s budget are the following major new member services:

Griievance A grievance was filed by several club staff members against a club member over an incident at the pool facility. After a reviewing the statements filed by the parties and conducting a hearing at which the parties participated, the Grievance Committee concluded that the member’s conduct when asked by the staff to comply with pool holiday rules was abusive and included the use of profanity. After considering the recommendation of the Grievance Committee, the Club’s Board of Governors voted to suspend the member’s privileges to use all Club facilities for a period of one month.

Tennis Exhibition Featuring LUCIE SAFAROVA #6 WTA Friday, December 4th, 5:45pm. Broken Sound presents a tennis exhibition with Lucie Safarova who is currently ranked #6 in the world. Greg Wheaton and Denzil Pieters will take on Lucie and her partner in a competitive men versus the women. Don’t miss this special event to start the season. There will be music and hors d’oeuvres following the tennis. Reservations are required for the after party.

1. The Bistro shall open for a third night each week in season, namely on Sundays. The Thursday, Saturday and Sunday hours of operation shall be increased with the Bistro opening at 5:30 PM. 2. Crudité, snacks and beverages shall be available in all men’s and women’s card rooms 5 days and 5 nights a week all year round. 3. The existing Old Course Wednesday Barbeque and Happy Hour will each be enhanced and each offered once a month in season. 4. The Happy Hour at the Bistro on Fridays will be extended beyond 7:00 PM for music, dancing and beverages. VI. Facilities - The Club offers its members an enjoyable Club experience including golf, swimming, tennis, entertainment, special events and family nights in a welcoming clubhouse, outstanding tennis facilities, an award winning new pool and bistro complex and a new spa and gym. The Club’s commitment to excellent facilities is to better the membership experience while enjoying the outstanding service we provide on a regular basis and on special occasions. The clubhouse provides a modern ladies card room, a private grill room, a fireside room, a spectacular dining room for members and large banquet facilities for both member and nonmember use. The new fitness center contains all of the equipment and services one may want. The award winning pool and bistro complex is the place to be during the day. The 23 tennis courts offer an additional choice for exercise and recreation. In addition we offer upscale golf and dining facilities at the Old Course where the Allianz senior PGA tour has been played for 9 years and will return in February. The Club netted some $225,000 or approximately $150 per member in dues reduction from the tour event last year with even more publicity about the Old Course and Broken Sound than in previous years. The Club won an award from the USTA as the Outstanding Tennis Facility, the only club in Florida and one of only five private clubs in the United States to receive this award. Our Spa and Fitness Center also won an outstanding design award from the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).

This year we: 1. updated the men’s and women’s pool locker rooms, 2. expanded the salon capacity for hair treatment that better meets the increased demand for hair coloring, 3. installed pavers at the entry to the Spa and Fitness Center as well as on the cart paths at the Old Course, 4. increased the tennis parking lot capacity by 45 spaces( this area will be used primarily by our employees and will free-up additional parking for our membership), and 5. commenced planning for the possible long term solution to the parking issues at the Main Clubhouse. VI. Communications –The Club’s constituencies (i.e. members, prospective members, employees, the Boca community, and government and industry personnel) have unprecedented pressures, responsibilities, and obligations that make catching their attention, and then keeping it, a challenge. With limited time it is important that the Club captures their attention and deploys strategies to keep them engaged; our communications are a relevant “must read”. The epitome of communicating with our constituencies is to keep them up-to-date and provide them with what is of interest to them. We utilize communication technology wherever possible to deliver content that is of interest to every individual. Notwithstanding that, our bimonthly Broken Sound Magazine has become a “must read” by our membership and those individuals seeking a home at Broken Sound. From a member point of view, the intent of our communications is to grab our members’ interest right from the beginning and make them feel that they are valued. When communicating to our members electronically or via print material we endeavor to make signing-up for events more convenient and effortless. We strive to reinforce our brand wherever possible and emphasize our services, facilities, our culture and our value proposition. Sincerely, Robert Breakstone President

CLUB COURSE NEWS by Scott Feller, PGA Director of Golf - Club Course I would like to welcome back all of our returning members and their families as well as many new members who have recently joined Broken Sound Club. We are looking forward to a very successful season! This year the Professional Staff will once again work hand in hand with our Men’s and Ladies’ Golf Associations to make their golf events a competitive and enjoyable experience for all participants. Both the BSMGA and CCWGA have scheduled a fun and exciting list of events for this upcoming season. We are looking forward to another record setting season for participation amongst the leagues. The schedule for each league can be found on the club website under Club Course activities. After popular demand, our Nine and Dine events have returned for another season. The first Nine and Dine event is on Sunday, November 15th. The event will be an afternoon shotgun with dinner and awards to follow. The Club Course is introducing a one day Member/ Member event on Saturday, December 5, 2015. This event will give participants the opportunity to compete with the partner of their choice in a fun and competitive team format. Sign-up will be available on Chelsea and in the golf shop for this event.

Please remember to keep your schedule clear for our Member Guest Events this season. As in the past we will be hosting Member Guest events, for both Men and Women. Due to the overwhelming demand for the Member Guest events we will continue to offer two separate days for both the Men’s and Ladies’ Member Guest in 2016. The Ladies’ Member Guest will be held January 12th and 13th. The Men’s Member Guest will be held on January 19th and 20th. Please keep an eye out for announcements and further details in November. The Member Guest events held by the Club Course are unrivaled in our community and we will continue to host the events in their most prestigious manner. Our Men’s South County League team had another strong season as they fought their way to the top of the league standing in the regular season. The team fell just short of another championship, after losing to Gleneagles Country Club in the final match. Congratulations to our players on another great season! The Club Course will be hosting the top golf vendors for our Demo Days throughout the season. Please remember we offer a special “Demo Day only” discount on club orders from our featured vendor. Any golf clubs ordered on Demo Day from our featured vendor receives an additional 10% discount. The Demo Day schedule can be found in

the Men’s and Ladies’ locker rooms, and in the Club Course Golf Shop. Our Professional Staff is ready and waiting to help you improve your golf game and lower your scores. With private lessons, on-course instruction and golf clinics, your game will benefit from our PGA Professionals this season. Each week our professional staff will be holding clinics on the driving range. These clinics will cover all aspects of the game, while providing each individual an opportunity to practice their skills under professional supervision. Please stop into the golf shop for more information. This season our professional staff is introducing our “Get Golf Ready” program. The program has been introduced to provide fundamental instruction on all aspects of the game. Each participant of the program receives five (5) one (1) hour lessons in a fun and friendly group atmosphere, while learning how to play and enjoy the game of golf. The cost of the program is only $150 and upon completion of the program each participant will receive a three (3) month trial Club Course golf membership. Please contact the Club Course Golf Shop to sign up or find out more information. I hope to see everyone out on the links! We are looking forward to another great season!

The Serve Dictates The Return The serve is the only time that you have the ultimate control, because the ball is in your hand. You have the potential of tremendous impact on the beginning of the point. Where you serve has an influence on where your opponent might return the ball. A powerful serve is great, but I believe that it is more important to have directional control of your serve. You can have an idea of where your opponent might return the ball based on where you serve the ball. If you serve the ball out wide (towards the doubles alley) the returner will likely return the ball to one of two areas of the court: down the line or cross court short. If the serve is more down the middle (toward the center service line) the ball most likely is returned deep toward you, the server, or at your partner at the net, which will allow your partner to finish the point. With a game plan of where you are going to serve and having the control to serve that ball to any spot in the service box, will give you the advantage of knowing where your opponent will likely hit the ball. Before you step up to hit that first serve, take a moment and evaluate which ball you would like to receive.

MOONSTONE SPA Leigh-Ann Davidson, Spa Director

The power of a good skin consultation Your skin is always changing and these changes can be a result of diet, hormones, age, climate and seasons and many other factors. The idea of changing your skin care to suit the needs you are now faced with can pose a huge problem, especially when you compare the endless magnitude of lotions, potions and antiaging marketing that can seem limitless and sometimes overwhelmingly confusing. I suggest that instead of looking for a whole new brand, first, you should look for a new consultation. Of course, the brand you choose is important, but there are so many options that it is impossible to select the products that are right for you without the correct information about your skin to begin with. Before you go out and spend money on promises that can’t be kept, get a consultation with a skin care professional. Not just any consult, but a full consultation which includes a skin diagnosis. This is where you will really find out about your skin and the best products for you and anything else that may be available to fix your skin. 7 THINGS TO LOOK FOR IN A CONSULTATION 1. Your skin should always be examined prior to any product recommendation. 2. A true professional will know the right questions to ask and be able to explain to you what is going on with your skin. 3. They will listen to your concerns over and above their need to sell you a product. 4. They should welcome your questions and be able to answer all of them. 5. They can and will explain the key active ingredients in a way that you understand but also, that makes complete sense to you. You will walk away knowing why an ingredient is going to diminish your skin care issue.

6. Facts should be laid bare and all options provided to you. Of course how much you spend is important, but getting the right advice and the best approach to take in order to get the results you are hoping for should come first. 7. A true professional will create a plan for your skin and take baby steps before moving on to more intensive products or treatments. This is not a quick fix; this is long-term results. A few last things to remember: Your skin care professional should be reviewing your skin and how you are feeling about your results with every return visit. One facial, once a year is not enough to change your skin. Great skin must be a daily commitment along with a healthy lifestyle. Sampling a skin care product can be a good idea, but perhaps not for the reasons you may be thinking. Most samples will last you a week at best. In a week you will discover three things. 1). Whether you like the scent of the product 2). If you like the feeling on your skin 3). If you have any allergic reactions to the product. What you will not see in a week of sampling is any meaningful results. However, sometimes you may find a certain amount of ‘instant gratification’ especially if you skin is dry or dehydrated, but for the most part, true and lasting results come from the quality of the ingredients and formulations that are backed up by scientific evidence and your commitment to the product.
