For nearly 50 years, Meridian Technology Center has helped residents of the district succeed in the workforce by providing training, education and certifications that are critical to local industry. We believe success starts with a skill, and we partner with individuals, industries and communities to provide the training needed to move Oklahoma forward.

In addition to the full-time career training programs that are focused on high school students and adults, we also specialize in workforce and economic development programming for existing businesses, business and entrepreneurial support services for new companies, and personal and professional development short courses for those who want to pursue a passion or gain new skills. This catalog contains information and programming in each of these areas.

Our district is growing, and we’re responding to its needs. In addition to familiar favorites, this year, we’ve added several new courses, including Cryptocurrencies, a LinkedIn series and Marketing for Photographers. To meet the growing demands of the health care industry, both campus locations have Flex Learning labs that allow students to enroll at any time and progress at their own pace. We will also host regular Leadership and Staff Development programming in the upcoming year at our South Campus in Guthrie. In addition to the Learn Locally classes in Perry, we have workforce and economic development programming in Pawnee and Perkins.

As you look at this catalog, we invite you to let us know if there’s a class that you’d like to see us offer. Ideas for many of our most popular courses come from you –the people we are here to serve. We look forward to this new year and the new opportunities it can bring.

Mastering the LandlordTenant Relationship

The relationship between landlords and tenants has never been more scrutinized than in the past few years. A pandemic and economic collapse resulted in emergency eviction moratoriums and protections for those renting their homes. With over 100 million tenants renting throughout the United States, understanding your rights and responsibilities as a landlord and as a tenant is critical. This class is taught by a lawyer who manages his own rental properties. In addition to answering as many questions as possible, this class will cover Oklahoma’s Landlord Tenant Act, what a “good” lease might include, what the eviction process looks like, and some practical tips for maintaining a good relationship between landlords and tenants. $30

Boosting Your Brain Health

Your brain runs your life. When it works right, your body works right, and your decisions tend to be thoughtful and goal directed. Bad choices, however, can lead to a myriad problems in every aspect of your life, including your own body and your relationships with others at work and at home. This interactive session facilitated by Anna Irwin will arm you with strategies to master your brain and body, boost your focus and memory, increase your energy, and strengthen your mood and relationships. $20 2/14 T 11:30A - 1:00P MAIN

Yes, AND. Creating Community Through Collaboration

So often we feel as though we need to climb and push against one another to go far and be the best. When the dust settles, we often pick up our accolades and look around to realize we are standing on a metaphorical island, exhausted and alone. What if it didn’t have to be this way? What if instead of looking across the table and wishing we had what someone else has in the ways of natural gifts and abilities, we honored them? What if instead of closing ourselves off, we create space by sliding our chairs over to make room for more? What if we say “yes” to the talents I bring to that table, AND “yes” to yours? $20 3/02 Th 11:30A - 1:00P SOUTH

Why Trust Matters in the Workplace

We’ve developed new norms since the pandemic began … quick changes and pivoting, more dependence on technology for communication, uncertainty and decision fatigue like we’ve never experienced before. Thankfully, it’s also left us with the ability to think differently. To challenge the way we go about our day-to-day lives. To practice empathy and compassion at a deeper level. To build upon foundational communication and trust. And to take what we have learned during these extremely difficult times and apply this newfound knowledge to dig in and see how it could benefit the ever-changing workforce. But to do this, there must be one key component. In this interactive session facilitated by Amie Haar, individuals will uncover the characteristics of a true leader (no matter their title!), and learn ways to build, earn and keep one of the most soughtafter treasures all lasting relationships must encompass … Trust. $20 3/07 T 11:30A - 1:00P MAIN

Fight the

Frustration:

How to Work with People Who You Drive You Crazy

Know-it-alls. Complainers. Dictators. Passive aggressives. Of course you recognize these labels – they’re the people you work with, sell to, depend on or live with. There are difficult personalities all around us, and, like it or not, we must find a way to work with them. This session, facilitated by Lorinda Schrammel, will provide practical strategies to understand and communicate with the difficult people in your life, be less of a target for their challenging behavior and learn how to bring out the best in those who have trouble doing it themselves. $20 4/11 T 11:30A - 1:00P MAIN

Gaining Confidence & Charisma

We’ve all seen people who ooze with confidence and charisma. They are secure in who they are, but they aren’t arrogant. They are self-aware, and they are generally willing to take big risks because they believe anything is possible. They acknowledge their own achievements, and they are the first to celebrate yours, too. People feel better just being around them. From the outside, it appears confidence and charisma happen with ease, and either you have them, or you don’t. The truth is both are learned behaviors that can be mastered with practice and persistence. In this session, you’ll learn how to confidently present successes and skills, develop your elevator speech and learn how to leave an impression people won’t forget. $20 4/18 T 11:30A - 1:00P SOUTH

Permission to Breathe

Have you ever been so emotionally exhausted that it felt like you have nothing else to give? If so, you aren’t alone. How do you find middle ground? This discussion-based session facilitated by Anna Irwin will help you explore strategies to determine how to let go of what isn’t working in your world and embrace the people and projects that give you room to thrive. $20 4/27 Th 11:30A - 1:00P MAIN

Explore Your Interests at Tech

With 20+ programs to choose from, training at Meridian combines theoretical framework and hands-on skills application. Instructors are experts in their field and industry representatives help shape course content.

Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors

Depending on their high school, students can earn 3 or 4 credits per year. Some of these credits count as electives, some count as academic credits. The Meridian STEM Academy, including preengineering and biomedical sciences, is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors. For all other programs, students may attend their junior or senior year. When space is available, sophomores can enroll for afternoon programs. Students attend either a morning or afternoon session. High school students living in the Meridian Technology Center district attend at no cost and should visit with their counselor about applying.

Adults

Adult students can chose from either the morning or afternoon session or attend all day, depending on program availability and their schedule. Tuition for adults and those living outside of the district depends on the specific program. Adults may also be eligible for financial aid through grants and scholarships and should visit with the Financial Aid Officer. Adult students may apply on our website.

Class Schedule

Morning: 7:50-10:40 am | Afternoon: 12:45-3:35 pm

Sessions begin each August and January.

College Credit

Earn college credit while you’re at Meridian. Through a cooperative effort between the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and the Oklahoma Department of Career & Technology Education, college credit toward an associate of applied science degree (A.A.S.) may be available upon completion of a career major. An A.A.S. is a technical workforce degree and is a great path for someone who plans on entering the workforce immediately after earning the degree. College credit is specific to the technical workforce degree and usually does not transfer to a bachelor’s degree.

BUSINESS AND ENTREPRENEURIAL SERVICES

Support for Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses

The process of converting an idea into a business venture requires intensity, focus and a support network. Our mission is to help entrepreneurs build strong businesses, and we do that in three ways.

Business Consulting & Coaching

We provide business consulting and coaching to early-stage companies and aspiring entrepreneurs. We’ll help you explore the feasibility of an idea, identify a new market for your product or service, evaluate your marketing, understand how to hire the right employees and more.

Business Incubation When You’re Starting a Business

Business incubation is a focused process that includes management guidance, technical assistance and consulting for young, growing companies. Entrepreneurs can locate their business in the incubator as a residential or associate tenant. Residential tenants have access to services and rent dedicated office or lab space for up to three years. Associate tenants have access to our services but do not rent dedicated space. Meridian has incubation facilities located in Stillwater and Guthrie. To learn more about the business incubation program and to apply, please contact us through our website at meridiantech.edu/bes.
