INTERIM DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE One of my favorite characters in children’s literature is Nancy Drew, who was always ready to solve a mystery and save the day. Last year, we had to channel our inner Nancy Drew and put our thinking caps on to figure out the twists and turns of navigating COVID-19 while still serving our customers, a situation none of us had experienced before. As I review the past year and plan for the future, I’m excited for what we’ve accomplished and are about to do.

Celebrations & Commemorations............... 10 As a result of our adaptations to COVID-19, Broward County Library is better than ever! KIDS............................................................................ 11 Determined to provide first-rate service, the staff TEENS....................................................................... 12 came up with fresh ideas like taking programs online to Webex and Facebook Live, filming Sunsational Storytime performances on YouTube, Curbside Service, and other initiatives for which we won national awards. Most important to us is your approval – and since you love these enhancements, we have kept them after re-opening our buildings.
In good times and bad, you may rely on the library to meet your needs for information, education and recreation. And you can depend on us to bring you the latest in technology, like our new Tech Talk Weekly, while maintaining our beloved, traditional events like the annual Children’s BookFest, a classic in its 16th season, kicking off on May 22nd with the Pet Parade with Special Furry Guests and raffle prizes of remote control pets. You can also count on us to give you a fabulous Tails and Tales Summer Learning Program. So much is going on in this Summer Learning Program that we need a whole magazine to tell you about it. Watch for it! Meanwhile, get ready to draw animals with award-winning author/illustrator Bob Shea, meet television sensation Cat Daddy Jackson Galaxy and get acquainted with author/rescuer Hannah Shaw: Kitten Lady. With our Summer Learning Program before us, we can sleuth out and uncover the amazing animals and wonderful stories that are part of our world. I encourage adults and children to sign up for Tails and Tales today, and enjoy a splendid summer!
Sincerely,
Allison Grubbs
