MESSAGE
While every Veterans Day is a noteworthy, this year – the holiday’s 100th anniversary – is extra special. For a century, Americans have been honoring our military members each November 11 with parades and ceremonies. But what about the rest of the year? Each day in Broward County, veterans, active-duty military and their families deal with issues such as unemployment, separation and reunification with family members and readjusting to civilian life. As a veteran myself, I understand these challenges. Often times the most difficult problem our veterans is not knowing where to turn when help is needed. What local organizations can help me secure safe, affordable housing? Where can I get help with my resume or job interview coaching? What resources are available
“Vet Fest is our ‘thank you’ to the men and women who serve our country, and we created it to connect veterans and their families to valuable library and community resources.” to assist me with enrolling in college? Find answers and information and so much more at Broward County Library’s Vet Fest, scheduled for November 2nd at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center. Vet Fest is our “thank you” to the men and women who serve our country, and we created it to connect veterans and their families to valuable library and community resources through exhibits, programs, demonstrations and guest speakers. In addition to Vet Fest, we’ll be hosting Veterans Day events for children, teens and adults that include patriotic performances, children’s activities, book discussions and film screenings. Broward County Library also offers Veterans Connect, an initiative that provides free portable Internet service to eligible veterans, active-duty military and their families along with information on veteran-related community resources and services. You can learn more about free Veterans Connect Internet service or about other community resources for veterans at Broward.org/Library/Veterans. This November, I’d like to personally invite all of our customers, of all ages, to join us at Vet Fest (November 2nd) or one of our other Veterans Day events. Let’s honor and celebrate those who’ve sacrificed for our country and fought for the freedoms and rights we enjoy not just on Veterans Day, but all year round.
Sincerely, KELVIN
