DIRECTOR’S

Message

2020 has been a year of extraordinary transformation for Broward County Library. This past year will have lasting and positive results on almost everything we do, from how we grow and develop our collections to the customer experience we provide. We’ve learned a lot since we closed our physical buildings in March, and we’re putting those lessons to work as we adapt and grow to meet your expectations and needs. For example, we’ve learned how to transform popular inperson programs such as Vet Fest and our annual StoryBook Festival into dynamic and immersive online events that are engaging, entertaining and enjoyable. We’ve discovered that online happenings are just as popular as in-person programs, connecting us with you locally, nationally and even internationally, and we plan to continue to provide them even when our buildings re-open. We also learned just how hard our staff is willing to work to maintain our Broward County Library standard of excellence even when circumstances are challenging. In the past seven months they’ve transformed, too, into producers, performers and playwrights creating original video content – storytimes, movie reviews, math lessons, business workshops and more – that brings Broward County Library to you, wherever you are and whenever you want us. We’re standing by curbside to ensure you get the books and materials you want and need, answering reference calls, stepping up existing skills and developing the news ones needed to succeed in these ever-changing times. As we continue to navigate what so many are calling our “new normal,” Broward County Library will continue to grow and change, incorporating lessons learned and exploring new ways to provide and deliver the library experience you and your family deserve, during good times or bad, in-person or online – we’re here for you.
