ENJOY!
Congratulations! YOU ARE NOW THE OWNER OF A BROWARD COUNTY LIBRARY CARD! A Broward County Library card is your key to unlocking a journey of entertainment, information and imagination. Use it to check out materials online or at any of our 38 locations, take a free online class, use a public computer or access downloadable movies, music, magazines, eBooks and more. You may use your card at all branches in the Broward County Library system to borrow materials. Our well-trained staff will be happy to answer your questions and help you find what you need. You can also return materials to any Broward County Library – even if it’s not the library where you borrowed them. When you visit the library, be sure to pick up a copy of Broward County Library News, our newsletter featuring the many events, services and resources we offer for all ages.
CHECK OUT A customer must have a valid library card to check out materials. If you wish to conduct any library business on behalf of another customer (such as a spouse, child or friend), you must present the library card belonging to that individual and know the four digit PIN number associated with that card.
HOLDS You can place holds on items for free at Broward.org/Library or by calling your branch library. The library will notify you that your item is ready for pick-up with a text, email or phone call. Materials will be held for five days. There is a $1.00 fee for each item placed on hold that is not picked up within five days.
RENEWALS Items can be renewed online at Broward.org/Library. You can also call the renewals line at 954-357-7368 or your local branch. Materials can be renewed unless the materials have been reserved by another customer. Feature films on DVD may be renewed twice for two days. Other materials may be renewed twice for seven days.
CHECK IT OUT
Library cards are free to those who work, reside or attend school in Broward County. Children under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian signature. Customers are responsible for materials checked out on their library card.
RETURNING MATERIALS There are convenient book drops at each library location. NEVER LEAVE ITEMS IF THEY CANNOT BE DROPPED SECURELY INTO THE BOOK DROP. All items may be placed in the book drop at any Broward County Library except interlibrary loan (ILL) items and technology devices (Tablets, Hotspots, etc.), which must be returned inside the building.

It’s necessary for the library to have some rules of behavior so that the space is inviting, safe and conducive to library use.
BE SAFE!
PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: • Behaviors that disrupt the safe, secure, stable and pleasant use of the library • Behaviors that threaten or endanger library customers or staff • Illegal actions that endanger staff or customers If you would like a copy of the library’s Customer Code of Conduct, please ask a staff member. Part of the agreement between the customer and library for a library card and its use includes agreeing to rules contained in the Customer Code of Conduct. Please note that our materials selection policy states: “Responsibility for children’s use rests with their parent or legal guardian.” This means that parents and guardians are the sole judge of what their children read, attend, view or borrow at the library.
