2016: New Year, New Beginnings
In 2015, Broward County Libraries Division shined. We received phenomenal exposure and awards for our exciting programs, exemplary customer service and innovative marketing strategies including recognition as Florida’s Library of the Year. Soon after my arrival in Broward I was faced with a daunting challenge – to develop a strategic plan to revitalize Broward County Libraries. Creating a three-year strategic plan for a 21st century library, and making that plan a reality, required teamwork, vision and resolve. The Libraries staff have breathed new life into the Main Library; opened several specialized Creation Stations at Main and regional Libraries; launched both the Quality Programming Initiative and new Early Literacy Initiatives; and is in the process of giving customers easier access to library materials and increasing open hours for the public. On a personal note, 2015 has been a tremendous year. My wife and I became parents and it has been quite a journey. We have been fostering babies in need of love and family. As new parents, it is exhausting, exhilarating and enlightening all at once. We are happy to help and to love these children as our own. This is traditionally the time to decide what our resolutions are going to be for the next year and I hope you join me in creating a fantastic year of giving, health, joy, expansion, gratitude and hope.
The Libraries Division has been through many transitions and there are more to come. In the spirit of embracing new challenges Inside this issue : in 2016, I have • Black History Month decided to resign from my position • Focus on Broward: Foodies Unite! as Director of Broward County • Moonlight Tales Library. This decision has not come easy, as I have taken tremendous pride in leading Broward County Libraries and its wonderful staff. I will now lead the Los Angeles County Public Library, one of the largest library systems in the country. I am thrilled by this challenge and opportunity. As Broward County conducts a national search for a new director, Ms. Laura Connors has been appointed to serve as Interim Director for the Libraries Division. Thank you for your continued support of the library and for embracing the changes in your Broward County Library. Very best
Skye Patrick Broward County Libraries Division Director
