This year’s “A Universe of Stories” theme has us exploring all things space and technology – the perfect opportunity to take a virtual reality trip through the solar system, check out high-tech gear like our 3D MERGE Cubes and enjoy out-ofthis-world activities for kids and teens. Summer at Your Library offers cultural and educational enrichment for all ages and is the perfect way to spend time with friends and family, keep cool and make this summer memorable. Summer reading and learning also combat summer learning loss in children and teens and help build skills for academic success. On top of that, we offer free lunch and snacks at select libraries from now through August 10th – check out Broward. org/Library/Summer for details. We’ll also keep up the fun throughout August, with lifelong learning opportunities for all ages and the continuation of two traveling event series – Florida Panthers Reading Tour and the Virtual Reality Space Tour. And it’s never too early to mark your calendar for our next #DestinationFridays – Divine Nine celebration on September 6th at AARLCC. Summer also means it’s time for the South Florida Book Festival, our annual two-day literary event that takes place this year on July 19th and 20th at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC). Whether you attend Friday night’s ticketed “Eat, Drink, Read” event or the free, all-day program on Saturday, this year’s Festival features a great line-up of local and national authors, presenters, chefs and experts in the fields of finance, wellness and lifestyle. If your summer travels take you to Broward County’s Fort LauderdaleHollywood International Airport (FLL), please visit our new FLLibrary, an entertainment nook located in the airport that provides a comfortable space for airport passengers to rest, reenergize and recharge their digital devices while learning about and enjoying BCL’s online services such as free online music and movies. I’d also like to welcome two new, key members of Broward County Library’s administrative staff – Allison Grubbs, our new Assistant Director for the Broward County Libraries Division, and Makiba Foster, the new Library Regional Manager for the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center. Both bring with them a wealth of public library experience and are welcome additions to Broward County Library’s leadership. We’re excited to learn how their expertise will contribute to Broward County Library and make your customer experience with us better than ever.
Sincerely,
KELVIN WATSON
