Frida Rediscovered The Lost Images
African-American Research Library and Cultural Center May 8-31, 2015 The exhibit Frida Rediscovered - The Lost Images will open on May 8 at the AfricanAmerican Research Library and Cultural Center during the Destination Fridays – Cinco de Mayo event. (Destination Fridays is a 21 plus event; admission is $10, Broward.org/Library/Fridays) The event will feature two unique talks along with a special gallery exhibit, Frida Rediscovered - The Lost Images together with a slide presentation of a stunning cache of photos discovered buried in the archives of photographer Leo Matiz (1917-1998). Adrienne Chadwick, museum educator for NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale, will talk about NSU Art Museum’s blockbuster show “Kahlo, Rivera + Mexican Modern Art.” Both art exhibits run concurrently until May 31. Mali Parkerson and Valentina Garcia, international art consultants and partners of the cutting-edge Miami gallery, m+v Art, will install recently discovered images of Frida Kahlo in the library gallery. The photographs are the work of modern master Leo Matiz, photographer for Life magazine and the United Nations, and a personal friend of surrealist Frida Kahlo and her husband, muralist Diego Rivera.
