Join the 2017 Summer Learning Program and Build a Better World by Learning and Reading June 1 – August 20, 2017 It’s time to Build a Better World with Broward County Library’s Summer Learning Program! Enjoy exciting activities, register for our learning program and meet reading and learning goals to win prizes. It’s open to all ages and has four categories – Preschool, Children, Teen and Adult – each with specific goals and prizes. The Summer Learning Program helps prevent summer learning loss in children and teens and builds skills that maintain or improve academic proficiency scores. Adults can read and enjoy library programs while modeling good learning behaviors to children and teens. All ages can experience character- and communitybuilding activities that encourage personal and academic growth Our 2017 Build a Better World theme invites everyone to build reading and learning skills and knowledge in STEM concepts of science, technology, engineering and math. This year, through partnerships with Broward County Public Schools and Broward Reads, the 2017 Summer Learning Program has expanded and is now the primary summer learning program for the entire county. Registration for the Build a Better World 2017 Summer Learning Program begins May 18, 2017. Track your reading and learning from June 1, 2017 – August 20, 2017. Broward County Public Schools’ Summer Learning Week takes place on May 22-26, 2017. Earn great prizes and the chance for a grand prize: • Youth can earn brag tags – fun dog tags to wear on a chain – by meeting their reading goals. All participants can earn free new books and fun prizes • Complete the first reading goal to be eligible for grand prizes that include Duplo sets, tablets, wireless headphones, tickets to local museums and activities, and even round-trip plane tickets • Participants must record their reading and learning online to be eligible for most prizes. Winning is easy at Broward County Library: 1. Register directly online at Broward.org/Library/Summer or at any library location. 2. Pick up a printed tracking game at your library if you want a print version to record your reading/ learning before entering it online. 3. Start reading, attending programs or trying database discoveries/digital downloads. 4. Input your information online to be eligible for great weekly and grand prizes. Free Summer Food and Fun! Broward County Libraries, in partnership with Broward Meals on Wheels and funded by the Florida Department of Agriculture, presents “Free Food and Fun at Your Library” this summer. Through the Summer BreakSpot program, kids ages 18 and under can enjoy a free lunch and/or an afternoon snack that will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at 28 library locations. See “Summer Lunch” designation for locations. Ask your branch librarian about time and dates at your branch.
