Opening of classes for Alabel National High School has never been more significant as this school year than before with no less than the Secretary of Education gracing the endeavor. With the goal to expedite the 21st century skills and to bring access to computer technology to elementary and secondary public school learners , including those who are enrolled in the Alternative Learning System (ALS), DepEd Sec. Armin Luistro delivered 76 laptops to “Abot Alam” implementers of Region 12 in a hand-over ceremony on the second day of the opening of classes at Alabel National High School on June 2, 2015, Luistro together with Dr. Allan G. Farnazo, Director of DepEd Region XII, and the Local Government Unit of Sarangani headed by Gov. Steve Solon, distributed 19 units of laptop each to Abot Alam implementers of General Santos City, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani Divisions. With the handed technology, the secretary believes that the Abot Alam, which he dubbed as the “last mile” intervention of the Department of Education, will be empowered to continuously do their noble task of reaching
less fortunate out-of-school youth (OSY) and providing them with improved educational services and opportunities. “As a department, we believe that through these technologies and through the support of the community and stakeholders, Abot Alam could fully realize and materialize our responsibility of opening doors for those who hope for a better future, even those who found it difficult to hope and those who ceased from hoping” Luistro said. Loreto J. Gindap, principal of Alabel National High School, on the other hand, sees this activity as an inspiring and motivating way to jumpstart the formal opening of school year 2015-2016. “The coming of our secretary here ANHS is indeed an inspiring way to begin the school year especially for the teachers who see Brother Armin a paragon.” Gindap said. The donated laptops are among the 3,915 units seized by the Bureau of Customs which they turned over to the Department of Education for distribution to public elementary and high schools.

“Focus not on what is lacking, but on the generosity and abundance of heart.” This was the challenge posed by Dr. Allan G. Farnazo, Director of DepEd region XII, to the participants of the Kto12 Caravan cum Forum at Sarangani Capitol Gymnasium on September 7, 2015. Dr. Farnazo metaphorically drew his personal experience in marriage and the groundwork to facilitate the K to 12 operations in explaining the state of K to 12 Senior High School readiness of DepEd.
“Everyone has established a mental criteria in every decision he or she does. The criteria I have set for myself were all met and satisfied; so the green light is on for me to get married. This is an allusion to what DepEd Region XII is confronting right now. Criteria are set and are already met; hence, we are ready” Farnazo said. He further noted that the preconception that Kto12 implementation is perfect because of the preparation is a fallacy. “Saying that Sarangani is K to 12 ready because everything is set does not mean perfection. Problems and turmoil might come along the way in an unexpected
and unimaginable manner. This coming June 2016, such presumption may be characterized by teachers and clients crying and clamouring for inadequacy of facilities and learning materials.” Farnazo then emphasized that just like marriage, there’s no more turning back. Accepting and surmounting these drawbacks must prevail for the sake of the learners who are the recipient of the program. “Children must be our priority. We must be over and above these dilemmas. We must reign supreme against our problems because education does not mean building, facilities, books; but
education for the youth.” Farnazo added. The regional director is positive that the noble endeavors of the educators will all make sense. He challenged the teachers and administrators to work doubly for the promotion of education for the youth. “Let us all hope and aspire for the betterment of our education and for the welfare of the youth. We should not focus on what is lacking, but on the generosity we could offer to our little ones. Our pride can’t be measured by our accomplishments but by our efforts in surmounting trials and the abundance of our heart.”

Banking on their sheer determination to win and insurmountable amount of confidence and talent, the blissful educators of Alabel earned the bragging rights after conquering most of the contest events in the 22nd DepEd Anniversary at the Capitol gymnasium on August 6-7, 2015. Heart strong. Valiant. Grateful. Who would have thought that these words would describe the personality of a timid girl who brought honor for ANHS. Alabel National High School’s pride Patricia Pagay hit on the bronze medal in Philippine National Games in Pagadian City, Zamboanga Del Sur, September 8-14, 2015. Among seven contenders, 4 from GenSan and 3 from Cotabato City, Pagay issued an impressive run in the qualifying round vanquishing her opponents using her breath taking kicks and techniques in poonsae. However, Pauline Tubilay (gold medalist) put the fight against her and stain Pagay’s unblemished record. In the semifinal round, Teraytay of Gensan completely devastated Pagay’s hope for the championship as she overwhelmed the latter’s attacks by her counters. Pagay was able to regain her composure in the battle for third round robbing and dropping her opponent with her successive side kicks and 45’s. Despite of shattered opportunity for the gold, brown belter, Patricia was still thankful and positive to the outcome of the battle. “I’m happy and praying that soon, I would become a part of Philippine team,” she uttered. “I'll be your fists in the Senate.” These words of declaration came out like a stunning left upper cut as Eight Division World Champion Pagay had ensured already for herself a spot in the Philippine National Games to be held in Baguio City next year. The newest sporty faces of Alabel National high school continue to dominate and rise from the horizon. Simple girls wearing their school uniforms, ms, unexpectedly possess the heart of a champion. Speaking of the Palaro, another pride of Alabel National High School has made it possible to access the said event. She is Patricia “Apple” Pagay. Youngest in their 4-membered family, this lovely athlete has proven her worth as she always bring her audience in awe with her exhilarating moves, hair-raising kicks and impressive defense. Apple’s reason for joining the taekwondo team was just for fun, but unexpectedly, she was named as one of the best players our region ever had. Nevertheless, quitting came up to her mind, and if she did so, Pagay will not have the chance to play for the Palarong Pambansa & Batang Pinoy Mindanao Leg in her grade 8 days. Earlier this year, Patricia played for Philippine National Games, from which she raked the silver medals.
In addition to our line-up of champs, Shienrose Fatadillo, a grade 7 student, never failed to make us proud with her undeniable greatness in Taekwondo, serving as her admittance for Palaro in grades 5 & 6. Unlike Patricia, Shien’s mother was the one who forced her to join the team. Due to her rip-roaring moves, she was able to clinch to 1st dan black belt, and was also hailed as one of Sarangani’s qualifiers for Batang Pinoy along with Pagay, who also bagged different awards, even the gold medal. Moreover, she will be playing for Batang Pinoy National Level this year. Perseverance, Perseveran determination and confidence. These are the key qualities an ideal confidence athlete should possess to place themselves in ANHS history of champs. Three different girls, banded with one goal. To be the pride of Sarangani.

“ Utak at Puso”: Uneasy to fathom Mark Polestico “Utak at Puso” or “mind and heart” is the University of the Philippines Pep Squad’s theme for the 2015 UAAP Cheerdance Competition where it placed 3rd behind National Pep Squad and University of Santo Tomas’ Salinggawi Dance troupe on October 3 at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City. They were clad in maroon with gold linings forming a heart-shape at their spine, had an almost perfect routine with the absence of deductions inspired by “mind and heart” highlighted by awestruck formations, pyramids, and stunts. Resulting to bronze, they accumulated 610.5 points from tumbling (77) stunts (68.5), tosses (56), pyramids (85) and dance (324) which was 50 points away from the title. UP Pep had expected to deliver solid performances way back 1994 when it was first founded beginning with only five members known as Hecklers that eventually became the official cheerleading and cheerdance team of the University. Since then, the squad represents UP in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition where they were champions for eight non-consecutive years (1999,2000,2001,2007,2008,2011 and 2012). “Utak at Puso” was founded by the UP Pep’s coaching staff led by Prof. Lalaine Rosend Juevez Pereňa together with team captains Lara Limjap and Camille Lagmay. This theme wasv one of the famous trademark cheers that always expect from U.P that signifies the acronym U.P: “U” for utak and “P” for puso which was shown through their song choices and the impressive heartpyramid in the latter part of their performance. Though they came short with 3rd spot behind the NU’s “stone age” and UST’s “Africa,” “utak at puso” concept will always prevail in the hearts and minds of the true and sincere fans academics and scholars even others found it uneasy to fanthon.

Pascal and the Meaty Loaf
Beefloaf is a processed meat product consumed by most of us daily. We fry it, mix it with other dishes or even eat it instantly. It is one of the most practical and convenient foods ever! But how can you open a can of beefloaf if you don’t have a can opener? So hassle isn’t it? How about solving the problem using the Pascal principle? Blaise Pascal was a French mathematician, physicist, inventor, writer, and Christian philosopher. He discovered a method which only requires a small amount of air pressure to create a huge result. It is the same method used in hydraulic jack which carries a car by just stepping the pedal-like on the floor also with toothpaste tubes. It is called Pascal principle.

Wondering now huh? Here’s how to open a beefloaf in four easy Pascal Principle steps:

80% Kto12 Forum attendees affirm Sarangan s SHS readiness Eight out of ten Kto12 Caravan cum Forum participants believed that DepED Sarangani is Senior High School ready this coming school year 2016-217. This was the result of the survey conducted by the Sarangini, the official publication of Sarangani Division Office, during the K to 12 Caravan cum Forum on September 07, 2015. Mr. Apolonio Ociones, the federated president of Parent Teachers Association of Sarangani, thought that Sarangani is ready and is moving towards the smooth full blast implementation of the K to 12 in the province because of the endeavours and advocacies conducted in every school. “Sarangani is ready! The ongoing construction of additional buildings and procurement of facilities and equipment happening in individual secondary schools, especially in Malandag National High School, speak of the Division’s readiness to embrace Senior High Program.”,
Mr. Osiones said. On the other hand, two out of ten attendees were still sceptical on the readiness of the division to facilitate senior high school implementation despite of preparations conducted. Mr. Michael Vincent Amarinero, the Head of the Communication Department of Primasia Foundation College Incorporated, trusted Sarangani’s capacity to push senior high school; however, the issues like insuffiviency of learning modules and references and the like might hamper the program’s operations. “I have heard efforts like kto12 and senior high advocacies and information drives as I travel every now and then from Alabel to Gensan. This might be a good indicator of readiness; conversely, I have also heard clamours about paucity in references, learning modules and learning materials from lower grade levels from one of the schools in Alabel. We might encounter the same problem in the forthcoming senior high ,” Mr.
Amarinero said. Meanwhile, Ms. Kenneth Joy Patuar, a senior high student of Alabel National High School, is still undecided on whether or not Kto12 in Sarangani is set since her knowledge about the process of preparation is insufficient. “Though there were some deficiencies in its implementation such as provision of textbooks, Senior High School early implementation in Alabel National High School is working. Despite of this, I can’t yet say that we are ready because of the mentioned challenge and because my knowledge of the process is not enough” Ms. Patuar said. DepEd Sarangani is still in constant effort to address the gaps in the impending implementation of the program. “Programs and event like this forum may provide us enlightenment as to how problems may be solved. We are positive that our noble endeavours will prosper.” ASDS Ablanido said. Rhoda Ebad

Proper Use of Social Media: The Right Way to Hold the Baton
“Social Media is the ultimate equalizer. It gives a platform and a voice to anyone willing to engage.”- Amy Jo Martin Humanity is now facing the advent of the Information Age, where the influx of data becomes faster due to the use of technological breakthroughs like computers and smartphones. Furthermore, communication at the different parts of the globe was made accessible because of these milestones of human ingenuity. The use of Social Media can give us a bunch of perks if –and only if- it is used at the “proper prescription”. Unfortunately, like the legendary cough syrup which some nuts abuse, some hypocrites abuse the advantages which are provided by the most versatile medium of communication nowadays. In a survey conducted by Department of Justice (DOJ), out of 10 Filipinos, 8 of them are victims of cybercrimes or other malicious activities in the Internet at one time or another. We cannot say that this fiasco should not be taken seriously, because it will pave the way for graver offenses which may destroy the equilibrium of our society. Moreover, if these pathetic happenings continue, it will cause significant damage to the youth, who composed the majority of users in the cyber world. Cyber bullying has been rampant in different social networks and most of those who are affected are the juvenile sector. Are we really that hypocrite to cover our eyes and ears in this agenda? As long as we remain taciturn, sooner or later some innocent folk will be another casualty of our obliviousness. As a wise netizen, we should be vigilant in preserving the ethics of using Social media. Although laws are passed to protect us from some miscreants of the Internet, all of these are futile unless we enforce it to everybody. We need to hold the baton properly, if we don’t want it to head our head accidentally.

Music to Death Tugs, tugs, tugs, tugs, tugs, tugs Do you love music? Well, I can`t blame you. Music is so entertaining, isn`t it? But let me tell you a story about a girl whose music was her life. Sometime during the 21st Century, there was a girl who was a great fan of music. She easily gets bored every tick of the clock without music at all. Silence? That`s another term for boredom; according to her. By that time, it seems like her phone is calling for her
attention. So she picked it up, inserted her headphones and again listened to music. She already heard many songs but still, she kept on replaying it. Every time she`s listening to her favorites (which is actually all of those in her phone), it feels like she is in the cloud 9. Its heaven; suddenly a vibration cut the song and stopped her from daydreaming. Warning: Low Battery. What a disturbance!. Those were the words whch sank in her mind ater she saw it.
She hurriedly got her charger and plugged it to the outlet. Yes! Finally she can continue entertaining herself. When she felt sleepy, she lay down to her bed, while playing the music. Then she fall asleep. She notice that her phone overheated. Hours passed by… The charger heated up. Electricity ran through the wire to her then. Boom!! She who addicted to music- Burnt by Fely DIaz

“I will continue to be in service to you and to the Filipinos; Yes I will dream bigger dreams.” This was the bold and meaty remark of Rep. Emmanuel Pacquiao implying that he wants to serve not just in Sarangani but also the whole country as he delivers his State of the District Address (SODA) in an endeavor presided by his wife, Vice Governor Jinky J. Pacquiao at the Sarangani Capitol Gymnasium, Alabel, Sarangani Province on October 5, 2015. The fighting congressman concretized notion as he officially declared his intention to run for senator in the coming elections during the People’s Champ Movement General Assembly that followed after the SODA. “If you want to be blessed, you should know how to bless others, and by running in a higher office I could materialize this aspiration of blessing greater number of people

Plants are everywhere. We can see it on our vicinity. But we don’t know that we can get a lot of benefits from them. Just like papaya that can give us a lot of benefits if we use them. Most of the people know about papaya but not many have knowledge about the amazing health benefits of this plant. Papayas leaf contains powerful healing compounds that are very important for great health and vitality. It has vitamin B for vitality and enhanced food; A and C, powerful antioxidants, and calcium; D-strong bones; E-sexual and cardiovascular health and flavonoids for powerful antioxidants, away from cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Some of the healing powers of this plant include indigestion- heartburn, breakdown wheat gluten, cancer, prostate enlargement, acne remedy, increase platelet count, menstrual pain, laxative, dengue fever, skin problems, increase appetite, cataracts, emphysema, immune booster and anti-aging. Papaya is a herbal medicine wherein we can use as a substitution for drugs and use us a first and in tonsillitis by our fore fathers in the past or even now. If you lack of money, no doubt, you can use the papaya leaves as a substitute for medicine that can cure infirmities of child and adult. Many, people now didn’t know how important the papaya is. Many are just telling, just playing with it, cut off its leaves and the worst thing they pull them up the pitiful tree.

With the association of U.S. Embassy Manila and Environmental Conservation and Protection Center (ECPC), the caravan personnel facilitated information drive on selected Secondary schools starting from Glan and all the way to Maitum. “Everything is connected to everything else. We need to conserve these turtles for their and our own good,” Mr. Kier Mitchel E. Pitogo, speaker of the information drive, said. He emphasized
that five distinct species of Pawikan that can be found in the Philippines, namely, Hawksbill (Eretmochelys), Loggerhead (Caretta caretta), Leatherback (Dermochelys coriacea), Green (Chelonia mydas) and Olive Ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea) are all in “endangered” state. According to him, we must take care of these reptiles because they play a vital role in marine ecosystem; if we let their upcoming extinction to happen, it can cause a big problem that could affect not just to ocean but also to all organisms including us. “We need to be aware, to keep them safe and help them exist in future generations for more diverse nature.”, he added. 21st Century: A Double Edged word?
The only permanent thing in the world is change. We are now living in the 21st Century. An age where modernism is penetrating our daily lives. The ascension of technology paves way to make breakthroughs in all aspects of the society. As utopic as it may seem, the very progress that he humanity created is also the very core of its travails. Living in 21st century has been a hotly-debated issue. Both sides of the discussion has arguments to fire at each other concerning on what we have done for the past 15 years. A number of Students appreciated the achievements 21st century well for it gives us a lot of high ground to stand in: higher standard of living; intellectual development; advancement in medical technology which leads to better medical care and treatment, and; modern conveniences that greatly facilitate human communication, transportation and housework as well. These are some of the heavenly things we can obtain in living a life in the 21st century. On the other hand, the waste generated by the modern manufacturers polluted our ecosystem. Thus, the balance of our world is hanging by a thread. As of 2011 according to the National Geographic Channel, the polar ice caps melts more rapidly than ever before . Moreover, too much dependency to gadgets caused a significant drop in the usage of books and material references, which are considered more genuine and accurate. The younger ones of today, moreover, tend to be computer-literate since they are born in the digital age. Therefore, they are much prepared to enter the 21st century than those persons born beforehand. The challenge now is on how to make this 21st century juveniles translate their digital know-how into sensible acts that would significantly advance a disaster- free 21st century society. Modern technology has the greatest impact towards our daily lives in this generation. Whether we like it or not, we need to embrace this change and enjoy what we have. We should take the time now to make our lives more meaningful in an increasingly impersonal, computerized world.

Time: Antidote against Bullying ON THE RIGHT CORNER
Recently, several cases of school unbridled bullying were recorded here in our country. Unfortunately, some of these cases were found in our campus. An unnamed student from Grade 7 was one of the victims of this predicament. The pitiful boy experienced depression because of the incident. How do we eliminate this rampant threat to our fellow? How can we put an end to this growing culture of violence? Bullying can be physical, sexual, verbal or emotional. It is further defined as unpleasant manner among school-aged students that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. For an action to be considered as bullying, a behavior must be repeated and aggressive. Being a victim of bullying especially in school brings us to a hazardous effect. Bullying someone leads somebody to have an unwanted
attitude and eventually becomes an intimidator himself. Bullying occurs in and away from the school; but, majority of bullying takes place in educational institutions. A great example of this is the playground or in the field, followed by the outdoor recess area, hallways, indoor recess and classroom. In high school, hallways are the most perilous locations. The common denominator in almost all of these locations is inadequate or no supervision and instructive time. This aforementioned reality caused the Department of Education and the administration of Alabel National High School to push a directive which holds that all classroom advisers must increase their contact time with their students; hence, mandating them to stay in their respective classrooms during
vacant time. We steadfastly believe that this measure would significantly reduce bullying incidents in the school. Perhaps these students who bully others just need a motherly or parental care and attention. If we just dig deeply to the root of their misdemeanor, we will be bewildered that their need for security, love and belongingness isn’t yet met. With adequate supervision and frequent communication with them, bullying cases will be exterminated. The move of our school to increase instructive and quality time of the teachers with their students may be enough to put an end to this devastating adversary. How can we put an end to this growing culture of violence? -A simple chat and time are enough.
“Isang bala ka lang.” This quotation is the famous one liner of the late Fernando Poe Jr. in one of his legendary action flicks. Ironically, the line can be applied to our society today, but instead of implying toughness, it gives an aura of mockery for the Filipinos. Our country is currently facing a very horrific issue that frightens both the locals and foreigners alike which the authorities dubbed as the “Tanim-Bala Scheme.” The government has earned the ire of the citizens because of its alleged indifference about the issue and to its lack of concern for the gravity of the crisis. “If they really care about the welfare of the OFW and the citizens of the Philippines, this issue cropping up would have been nipped in the bud a long time ago,” one of the protesters
had ranted. On the other hand, government itself says that they are trying to look for answers to solve this trouble as soon as possible. However, we cannot let the people above to fend for it alone. We must contribute ideas too to stop this predicament. Lots of people are affected with this problem most especially people who want to go abroad; and came from abroad. Right now, we must enhance our self awareness skills to help us stay away from such cases that may lead us to danger. But we must also remember that we need unity most in solving this burden. It can be the brightest and smartest possible way in times of quandaries like this it will serve as a rubber to bundle us to become one. If we work hard, we can surely resolve it easily.

It’s been a long day, without you my friend, And Ill tell you all about it, when I see you again… It’s been a year ea a since they died. Their chances in life are selfishly taken away. Their rights as human beings were unjustly abused. Their hearts and soul yank out and swallowed up in a cloud as dark as ebony. They strive to protect this

I believe belie e wee live li e in a colorful colorf l world. orld A world orld full of rainbows, unicorns and fairies. Hello! My name is Isha. I am a 7 year old kid who lives with my two older brothers and parents at the farthest town in Mindanao. Do you want go in my place? Our place is the most wonderful kingdom in the whole wide world! You can see fireworks and meteor showers from day to night! Our people are the most energetic individuals among the rest. They are always running from here to there, shouting like “AHHHHH!!!” Isn’t it wonderful? Green knights that looks statues with their black magical wand that creates sparkles of lights battles with the people hiding aat the mountains. I wonder why my parents are acting really weird despite of these enchanted occurances. They make us lay under the bed which makes me feel bad for I can’t see the fun and excitement outside. “You’re too young to understand it.” My father keeps on saying whenever I ask him why and what’s happening. Early that morning, as I looked outside through our window like what Rapunzel always do, I saw a flying gold meteor across the sky. I decided to close my eyes to wish. Hoping that this fairytale won’t end. But I was shocked when I was blown away by strong impact. It took me a minute to stand up. I can hear commotion outside. Immediately I ran outside to see people going everywhere. I walked to see what is going on. To my surprise, I saw tree things covered by banana leaves. I know! There is a big feast and those three covered things are the main course foods! Folks are still running everywhere. A strong wind blew which removed one of those banana leaves. I was stunned when I saw Bruno’s body laying in disgust. Bruno was my playmate since we were three. I wonder why is he laying at the street with a red fluid all over his body together with the foods. I was about to was about to wake him up when my father pulled me inside our home. “Dad, I still have to wake Bruno up. The feast
is about to start” I said happily to my dad. But my smile faded. I can feel that my dad is in panic. It made me feel scared somehow. I saw my siblings and my mom are crying. It was not tears of joy. They are crying because they are afraid. But, what are they afraid of? I looked to my dad. I can see great fright in his but tries his best to be strong. BOOM!!! I saw a huge explosion outside. I tried to run to see it but dad stopped me. He knelt down, held my shoulders, and looked into nto my eyes. “Isha, listen to me. I want you to be strong ong no matter what happens. You can take the place of anyone but no one can take your place. You are a candle that burnt yourself to light up your life. She is a light, a smile, sunshine, and a rare jewel. The nurturer and custodian of her kids and family. She keeps a very important place in the life of anyone. Without her, we are not here. Without her, our life is black and white. Do you know who is she? I think, this is the time for you to realize how important she is in your life. Oftentimes, she is being overprotective, very strict with her rules, forcing us to excel in class and limiting us to the things we wanted to do. For her, she is just being a responsible parent but might not so great for us children. She always teaches us and her advice seems like always very beneficial for us but in our beliefs, she is squelching our happiness. Moms unconditionally love their children. She cater our needs and fulfill our demands, she stand in our side, support and care for us. She is a bank where we deposited all our hurts and worries. She gave us love during the worst and best of times. She is a candle that burn herself to light up her children’s life. Any woman can be a mother. But it takes someone special for you to be called “Mom”. A mother can take the place of anyone but no one can ever take her place because she is our precious treasure.

A deafening clamor bombards the whole place. Her weep and plea boost the tension of the place. All eyes on different judgment were on her. Magical bullet has drag down another victim into shame. I could only stare to these paranoid passengers as fear and madness feeding them up. They seem to be full of annoyance and, outrage by these actions. Eyeing every airport official, staff, crew and even wrap their baggage with elastic cellophane praying that it will save them from sinful bullets. I sigh as my reflection drop on the sinking league that we have now. Look around you, what do you see? The pressing issues concerning the terrorism of our own compatriot. How long would be this conquering grip of paranoia will our countrymen endure? A deck of complaints regarding to bullets diving in passenger’s bag has put our country into shame. These airport problems embrace the government like a cold pack of harsh ice. The diminishing trusted officials and escalating scared cats to its own country has steam up the situation. Expanding chained comrades to the enslaving power of material riches, blinded by the glitter of gold every time a bullet is lay. This catch-22 situation is no easy way out. As I watch my fellow landsmen still smiling despite the fear, I recognize in their eyes what we almost lost---hope. The smiles pasted on their faces spell that there will be tomorrow. Hoping that we can have that integrated community, then maybe we could still hang on to life, to this country.

Catch up Classes: a Solution C or an Adversary? o S STANDPOINT Allan Pareja Driven by a universal goal, Education for All by 2015, Alabel National High School sees the importance conducting Catch-up classes for school-age youth. Aside from the EFA Goal 2015, the upsetting risk of a possible increase in the number of drop outs in the school impels the management to craft Catch- up classes. This measure is characterized by the enrolment of students who were not able to cope with the lessons and competencies in all subjects for the whole school year due to recurrent absenteeism. Furthermore, it will also cater students who were identified to have an age and level mismatch. Any student who can successfully surpass these catch up classes will be promoted to a level appropriate for him or her. This move by Alabel National High School truly sees the need of young people especially those who are financially incapable. The intention of the school in implementing this program is good and noble. However, alongside with its existence sprouts some skeptical views. Will it really address our problem in students dropping out? Is it really straightforward to the goal that by 2015, all youths of school age will enjoy school privileges? Are we not compromising quality education because of this aim of mass promotion? The answers for these uncertainties are yet to be disclosed until we figure out its outcomes. There is only one thing definite in this concern- the effectiveness and success of the program depends on the level honesty, dedication and compassion the people involved in the operation are investing. In this gloomy reality of our education, will this be the silver lining we are waiting for?

Emergency Disaster Funds, Where art Thou? JUST SAYING
“Perhaps, due to the value of the fund, their eyes and minds had been deceived” Recently a devastating typhoon barraged the Philippines and lots were victimized by the dreadful typhoon “Koppu” known in the Philippines as “Bagyong Lando.” The group of sufferers outcry for help for their recovery and yet it seems that their calls landed on deaf ears. In order for the victims of the calamities to be compensated, a budget was allotted by the authorities for these matters. It is otherwise known as Quick Response Funds. Unfortunately, it is sad to note that despite the gigantic funds set by the government to assist the needy citizens, it gave little impact for them. Do government agencies are fully utilizing the emergency disaster funds provided for by their budgets, or were they fascinated by its alluring value to the extent that
Princess M. Parilla la a they don’t th d ’t wantt it to t furnish f i h to t the needy? According to Senator Loren Legarda, P5.4 billion of the Quick Response Fund has not yet been used up by the agencies that had been given portions of the fund. A total of P6.7 billion was allotted to different government agencies but only P1.5 billion was utilized. Moreover, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Fund Management (NDRRMF) has a remaining fund of P10.28 billion. If these two disaster funds combine, it will amount to P15.7 billion. Thus, there will be no reasons at all to delay relief and rehabilitation programs. “Any delay would be an injustice to typhoon victims,” Legarda added. Perhaps, due to the value of the fund, their eyes and minds had been deceived.

People around us especially our parents are looking forward for our best. Obeying them is a virtuous practice for attitude development. Aside from the sacrifices, guidance, care and love they’ve showed, they are also thinking about our future. There’s something bothering in our hearts and in our minds, a question that will let your inner voices to speak out. They ttreated Th t d it as gold ld and d were engrossed with its exquisiteness. They forgot the real purpose of it – to be a helping hand to those who were deprived, and just kept it at a good coffer because they were attracted with its beauty. We may not notice it but Filipinos have this kind of mentality. We get easily blinded with the things that are astonishing and we tend to forget things that must flow where it should. It is the main reason why corruption is present in the Philippines. We have to control ourselves. With these unpleasant traits, our economy won’t progress and so are the people living in this republic. Let us then change for the better if we want to see a new world – better than before.
The Truth behind our Inner Voice: Parents or Passion
what’s going to be our vocation when we reached the said level of education; but the disagreement appeared on that said situation. As expected, we vehemently obeyed our parents and follow their will; with that, we have to develop the inner potential aside from our passion. Well, as a student, we can achieve it. But when the time comes, till ourselves are dedicated to the said vocation. According to a psychologist, 8 out of 10 students are in favor of following their passion rather than their parents.
Of course, we have our own passion. Passion to bloom our inner potential, the power to develop it, to create the real us. If that passion produces negative returns we’d rather choose the will of our parents. The students as well as confused individuals who are in the decision making, will you choose the will of your parents that is contrary to yourselves but beneficial for our lives rather than your passion that pushes you to be just yourself but with negative outcomes?
CChild`s Life: The turning point of democracy REFLECTION Abygyle B. Dizon A
A philosopher once said, childhood means simplicity. Look at the world with the child`s eyes – it is very beautiful. How could this thought be true today if we`re looking at the lifeless eyes of the toddler. Recently, the world was literally rocked by the outrage of civil war in Syria causing a horrendous toll of deaths which includes the poor lives of the juveniles. The ongoing armed conflict in Syria began the early spring of 2011 when the pro-democracy Syrian protested against Bashar al-Assad, the president of Syrian government. This resulted to violent responses and cracked downs to the
expense of human life. In the lens of universal human welfare, setting to rabid actions in solving stately issues is greatly condemned. The call of democracy and freedom is a noble endeavor; however, the means and ways should be rendered in a diplomatic process, should you wish to achieve this goal without compromising innocent lives. However, Syrian protestors choose armed rebellion in solving the dilemma which propelled catastrophe. The severity of disaster in Syria is outlined by the United Nation is characterized by more than 7.6 million people being displaced and 4 million

innocent lives lost. It is sad to note that the age old cry for freedom has been denied by violence and poor lives of the children who are supposedly the seeds of the future generation was put at stake. Are we losing our sense of humanity in exchange of superiority and power? The unfortunate event in today`s world calls for a worldwide effort of bringing back our genuine concept of humanity and common good for all. Countries driven by the same vision must work hand and hand for this noble cause should they wish to shut down the notion that the child`s life is the turning point of democracy.

21 Shots for Honor
Recently, Recently ntlyy I shared a drop p of my tears tteaars rs as a concrete sign si n of my sympathy si sympath p to t bereaved family of the men who sacrificed their lives for the country. The televised ceremony in honor of the fallen 44 inflicted so much pain in my heart. More than the visible tears and grieves and severe cry for justice; however, it is the dignified ceremony characterized by soldiers carrying the caskets of their comrades in the isle guarded by an array of men in maroon, that had made me burst in to tears. The 21 sorrowful sound of mournful shots from the soldiers’ riffles even made the whole event gloomy but honorable. This dignified exercise is known as the 21 gun salute. The 21-gun salute has its roots in the ancient tradition of warriors demonstrating their peaceful intention by resting the point of their weapons on the ground. A 21-gun salute is the most commonly recognized of the customary gun salutes that are performed by the firing of cannons or artillery as a military honor. Whenever a person from military dies, a group of seven soldiers’ fire off three volleys of each. Today, the national salute of 21 guns is fired in honor of a national flag, the sovereigns or chief of state and the men who gallantly fought for the country’s sake. The 21 gun salute will forever be the bittersweet melody to the valorous 44.

The whole Filipino nation was literary rocked by the very idea of APEC summit held here in the country. Magnanimous and hefty efforts were done as if the whole country had moved many mountains just to ensure APEC’s smooth success. How far is our knowledge about APEC and why our country is such in state of paranoia? Let’s feed our brains with knowledge about this endeavor. Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) has 21 official Member Economies that can be found in coastline of the Pacific Ocean. “Member Economies” is the best term to designate the APEC members with distinct economy, rather than the state. One of this standard is that the membership of Taiwan (officially the Republic of China, participating under the name “Chinese Taipei”) in conjunction with China as well as Hong Kong which joined APEC as a British Colony. Since 1989, the year when APEC was founded, affiliation of Head of Member Economies continues to grow until it reached 21 including Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull (Australia), Sultan Hassanal Biolkiah (Brunei), Prime Minister Justin Trud (Canada), President Michelle Bachelet (Chile), President Xi Jinping (China), Vincent Siew (Taiwan), Chief Executive CY Leung (Hongkong), President Joko Widodo (Indonesia), Prime Minister Shizo Abe (Japan), Prime Minister Najib Razak (Malaysia), President Enrique Pena Nieto (Mexico), Prime Minister John Key (New Zealand), Prime Minister Peter O’Neill (Papua New Guinea), President Ollanta Humala (Peru), President Benigno Simeon C. Turni ng 21 (Significance of 21st Birth Anniversary)
Being legal, legitimate and free are the most significant things that could happen in each of us once in a lifetime. You can feel the sensation of being liberated when you reach 21. Turning 21 means a lot. It means, one can buy liquor, move and act legally and socially considered to be no longer quarantined by their own parents. It is the stage where one can get out to her or his comfort zone off limits. Present are in order, as well as birthday wishes to prolong life and have success. These new roles that were attached to the 21 birthday are a cow for enthusiastic celebration to most people. In United Kingdom, a 21st Birthday celebrant prospers through an extravagant party and a thoughtful speech of gratitude to all his/ her guests and sponsors. However, in United States, a reveler celebrates by means of 24-hour liquor and cocktail ball putting themselves for a day. For most countries in the world, a key is given to a merrymaker. The key unlocks the door which leads to maturity and opens for the possibilities and surprises that life can offer in marriage life. John Mark Polistico
My
21st
Dilemma
Century
by CRYSTAL MONTEFALCON
Exited.Nervous.Paranoid.Worried Those are words that will describe my outburst feeling as I’m dreaming high for college life. Just few more years and I will be walking along the hallway of a prestigious University—or so as I thought? I bump a walking time bomb and a deafening shout “Hey sweetie! Heard about 2 years of Senior High?” shut me down. I don’t get it! I went to school and pass papers and papers again. I don’t like school but I got through it and I’ve done well. So what is this talk about “changing” and “extended”? I don’t understand this new curriculum of extra burden. I could only stare to the new on process classroom erected along the quadrangle, indeed schools are in grip of an alarming education fad frequently known as “Senior High”, the word has dramatically change and a new model of education drags us down, down a dark, slimy path, where lie gloomy future for us. I rolled my eyes in dismay and annoyance, come to think of it, what evidences is there that this new approach produces better results? Err, none. In fact, all their evidences points the other way around. Experiments with discovery-based academics have generally been a flop. But never mind: the education reformers are pressing the gas ahead full speed. I remember how my parents get quite upset once they get wind of what’s going on. This new kind f curriculum is nothing more than a warmed over romantic progressivism; the goal is not really to strengthen the system we have but to transform it in all aspects. This is the escape plan they’ve talking about is our educators scheme strategy to the present dilemma of squeezing outdated program to perform in which truly mold students capability at yet unprecedented levels. Innocent toddlers blabbering questions about this extension flash into my mind, I sigh, it’s really reasonable for is to ask what values we could get. It’s even more reasonable for parents to ask why educators are bent on whole experimentation with us. But new form education crusaders really don’t want us to ask questions. They’re experts and we aren’t. Subsequently, while walking in the wide array of naïve tots, I heard someone preaching the extra burden program; Senior high. I’ve heard a lot plus the unending dramas. It’s just really hard to grasp such an abstract concept when I’ve been all round school and have succeeded. Education is broken for new skill set is needed in the world today, I know of course I’m one of the first batches to these alienated like program to me but I just don’t get it!
