WEEKLY INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND ECONOMY NEWSPAPER
Being the only comprehensive research in the field of informatics in Turkey; Top 500 ICT Companies Research was held for the 17th time this year. Top 500 ICT Companies Research conducted by M2S Research and Marketing Services on behalf of BThaber Newspaper announced Turkey’s Top 500 ICT companies. The ceremony held in CVK Park Hotel on July 28 and was the hub of the ICT industry. Informatics 500 Research aims to meet the industrially critical statistical information on issues such as the number of employees, wages, productivity criteria, efficiency ratio and expertise. With this research, companies are being listed according to their turnover and divided into categories of expertise; thus becoming an important reference resource for overseas buyers and investors. Announced by Berrak Ataşen, the opening speech of 17th Informatics 500 Turkey BThaber award ceremony was given by BThaber Corporate Group President Murat Göçe and shared the information that the process started six months ago with preparation of themes and graphics belonging this year and submission of the research forms to almost all informatics companies. Murat Göçe also added that the catalog studies began with the collected form assessments placing the top 500 companies in the research and thanked everyone within the group companies sharing details about the tasks undertaken by each.
Innovations in ICT 500 Göçe shared information about the innovations in ICT 500 this year. Accordingly, the theme of last year ‘pearl’ left its place to ‘gear’ merging all the pearls and became the main theme of 17th Informatics 500 Research. Göçe expressed his wish stating: “Let’s hope that the gears would work together in harmony getting stronger together.” Another innovation of this year was the prize giving names being selected among real industry CIOs more than ICT companies. NGO Presidents took part in the ceremony and presented the awards to the outstanding companies in the ranking. Second time this year,
Each year ‘A brand new ICT 500’
awards were presented to seniors worked in the sector for over 35 and as highlighted by Murat Göçe; BThaber Special Awards were remarkable. He also stated that there are many new companies at this year’s categories and said that the biggest innovation of this year was separation of ‘top 10 informatics companies’ ranking as ‘top 10 informatics’ and ‘top 10 communication companies’ in the light of the studies carried out for several years. Murat Göçe talked about his hopes and reproaches as the following: Better be more interested in ICT “This year, the number of companies filling out the forms almost reached 2 thousand. We need the support of you all in order to make this research more comprehensive and more beneficial as the participation increases year by year. One of the most frequently asked

questions is ‘Why don’t you include X category?’ In order to add a category, there should be enough companies working in the category. When the number is adequate, we can absolutely open that category. Category suggestions are always welcome and we are already updating the categories every year. One other question that is frequently asked is: “My profit is higher; the other company simply has a higher turnover; so these results are unfair.” But no, that is not unfair and the explanation of this system is very simple: Yes, we do not carry out a research on profitability; our research is based only on turnover and we explain this over and over again, everywhere. Since we receive similar results with TÜBİSAD in the results of these studies we carry out, we take the figures covering the whole sector from them. I’ll try

to explain my expectations in front of governmental officials’ presence: two components of our industry are information technologies and communication and those are also integral parts of each other, both are complementary. We have a high respect towards communication firms that are highly appreciated by government institutions however we demand a little more attention and interest for information technologies companies, as well.”
Our hearts & souls are with the IT industry... Participating in the Informatics 500 Awards Ceremony, Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Ministry Deputy Undersecretary Galip Zerey talked about National e-Government Strategy and Action Plan and also pointed out that the Cyber Security Strategy and Action Plan has been completed. Speaking at the award ceremony Galip Zerey, underlining that the BTK’s duty area involves the telecommunications industry, stated that: “Telecommunications infrastructure is public infrastructure.” Zerey continued
his words as: “There are special and available arrangements for public telecommunications infrastructure and subscribers using this infrastructure. The aim is to provide subscribers good and quality services. The current regulations do not include any arrangement for the IT industry. Telecommunications companies have to get authorization from BTK, but IT companies are not required to obtain authorization from BTK or UDHB. According to the present legislation, we do not have a chance to do something about IT companies now. We are only able to perform on issues such as how can we support the sector in cooperation with IT companies, how can we increase domestic production in Turkey and how can we create a national industry. There are existing studies under the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology. Our hearts and souls are together with the IT industry.”
Industry seniors also received awards In the ICT 500 Awards Ceremony, awards were presented to IT sector seniors. To the people who worked for IT industry for more than 35 years, “35 years of work in Turkish ICT Sector” plaques and thanks were given.
