PRESIDENT’S WELCOME A WARM WELCOME TO HAMILTON WANDERERS FOR ROUND 17 OF THE LOTTO NRFL PREMIER LEAGUE. In the reverse fixture Hamilton came out 3-2 winners so we’ll be keen to settle that score at Shepherds Park today. Wanderers sit comfortably in 5th place at the moment, but a win would see us move just two points behind them.

Playing members will receive an email with the survey link and non-playing members can fill out a paper version available at the bar. Thanks in advance for your feedback as it will also inform our Strategic Plan that is due to be renewed in 2020.

It would probably be fair to say that our league position isn’t a fair reflection on our performances this season, so it’s been good to see a recent change in fortune in the win column.

Over the last couple of weeks’ we’ve held the NZF Junior Level 2 and Youth Level 2 coaching courses over at the Beach Haven Bowling Club and Beach Haven Tennis Club respectively. A huge thank you to our neighbours across the park for hosting us and thank you to all the volunteer coaches who attended.

Last weeks 2-0 win at Central means three of our five wins have come against three of the top four sides in the competition this Lotto NRFL season. This week we launched the BUAFC member engagement survey to help the Management Committee improve our community programmes, facilities and services. We hope all members will take 2mins to complete the survey that asks three simple questions: • On a scale of 0-10, how likely is it that you would recommend Birkenhead United to others? • What do you love about Birkenhead United? • What could Birkenhead United do better?

4

This week I heard an incredible statistic… that over the last 18 months we’ve had more coaches undertake NZF accredited courses than some Federations in New Zealand. That can only be good for our player development environment and shows how, as a club, we continue to set new standards across the board. Thank you to everyone who has given up their time to attend those courses. Over the school holidays we hosted the Northern Football Federation Player ID camp (see photo) for the first time. Over 120 players from North Harbour, Waitakere

and Northland attended this first camp after extensive scouting in the NFF region. This is the first part of the selection process for the National Age Group Tournament in December. Finally, congratulations to the Barons Div3 team (pictured with Barons Div7), who have now won an incredible 31 games in a row in league and cup fixtures. Their run extends through successive league promotions and they’re now just a few games away from promotion to Div3 with a +50 goal difference.

Northern Football Federation Player ID Camp

To cap their incredible run, last weekend they beat an undefeated Div3 Waitemata team 3-0 in the NFF Combined Cup QF, so they’re showing no signs of slowing down just yet. Superb effort lads! Let’s go Birko!

Barons Div 3 & Barons Div 7 Squads

Cheers, Neil Coventry Birkenhead United Club President

COACH’S COMMENTS

WELCOME TO KALE AND HAMILTON WANDERERS FOR THIS AFTERNOON’S ROUND 17 LOTTO NRFL FIXTURE. We’re on a good little run at the moment and confidence is high around the club, although we are expectinga tough battle in today’s match as usual. Big congrats to Birkenhead United first teamer Lachie McIsaac who is currently starring for the NZ U23s over in Samoa, it’s been great following Lachie’s progress and seeing him performing so well. Also to Nicholas Milicich, Nathan Lobo and Luca Taylor who are currently in camp with the U17s down in Wellington. Also a massive well done also to all of the boys selected in the NAGT camps last week – I think half of the players throughout the NFF region were from Birkenhead which says something about the direction this club is heading. We were lucky enough to have a couple of players come back for a spell from there US scolarships, and have been grateful to have them back within the first team mix.

Daniel Edwards plays his last game this weekend and has made a huge diffrence since he’s been back. Thanks boys, we greatly appreciate you coming back and we wish you all the best as you return over to the United States. I’d like to extend a big thank you to all Birkenhead United staff, supporters and volunteers for everything you do for the club – it’s all much appreciated. Hopefully we can put on another entertaining match for you all this afternoon. Enjoy the match. Cheers, Paul Hobson Birkenhead United Head Coach

Rob Dymond has been a bit unlucky with injuries and unfortunately injured his hamstring last week which has put him out for the remainder of the season.

BIRKENHEAD UNITED vs WAITAKERE CITY

CENTRAL UNITED vs BIRKENHEAD UNITED

SATURDAY 29 JUNE SHEPHERDS PARK

SATURDAY 13 JULY KIWITEA STREET

It was an important win against Waitakere City, we weren’t at our best this match although deserved winners on the day.

A really solid performance versus a dangerous, well-drilled Central United team. Some good goals from Ardri and Luke.

Good to see a mixture of players getting on the scoresheet too. A good performance from MOTM Nathan Lobo.

It was really nice to play on a good surface in front of a great crowd, and even better to come away with all three points.
