Meeting Activities
U-Fest Tabling
On August 24th, we tabled at UFest. It was a great way to get new members to join the club. We collected new members emails and told them about what we do as a club. We showed them scrapbooks from years past, so they could see exactly what we do and how much fun we have while doing it! It was exciting to see how many new people were interested and how many people had done Key Club in high school, which is the high school version of the club. It was a really great way to promote our club to new members and get word out about what we do. Some people from other clubs even came up to us to ask about collaborating on things. This year I am really excited for the new service opportunities we have and getting all of the new members excited. We have already done a good amount of volunteering and I am very excited to do more. I’m also very excited that we’ve had a lot of new interest. I know that when I graduate this year there will be some outstanding new people to take over for the years to come.

Day of Caring
Volunteers Improving Neighborhoods Environments or (VINES) is a local organization dedicated to bringing the city of Binghamton a sustainable food system. Originally formed as a volunteer-led project to develop and beautify the urban farm area, VINES has grown to improve the lives of many community members. This past September, the Binghamton chapter of Circle K was able to help the VINES efforts by weeding and harvesting ripe vegetables at one of the many farm shares. Circle Kers were first given a tour of the grounds during their arrival and were informed about the benefits of locally grown produce and an usual fruit native to our town. We then went to work tending to the overgrown weeds and clearing debris. Tasked to care for everything from kale to zucchini, we were then able to gather and harvest some veggies. Hauling mounds of weeds and breaking a sweat, at the end of the day we were rewarded with some tomatoes, green beans, and peppers to enjoy. A wonderful Saturday, the gardeners invited us to volunteer again throughout the semester. We were reminded that help would be even more appreciated now more than ever since VINES is currently expanding with the hopes to cultivate 20 new gardens by 2020. This being said, I wouldn’t doubt if our Circle K club decides to partner with VINES to help every fall! -

Boo at the Zoo
Letter from a Circle K Alum
Circle K was a huge part of my experience at Binghamton. It gave me the opportunity to challenge myself, grow as a person, and meet some amazing people. I knew I wanted to join Circle K after being involved with Key Club in high school, but I wasn’t sure what to expect and knew that instead of going with a huge group of friends this would be an experience I would begin by myself. My expectations were met when I attended my first meeting and began to make friends within the club. Members from all years were excited that I came out to the club meetings and events and welcomed me with open arms. Before I knew it I was going to every service event I was free for and even attended some of the district conventions. It wasn’t always easy holding myself accountable to go to meetings and service events, especially with a hard academic load, but I always felt better and re-energized after leaving a Circle K meeting. It gave me an opportunity to network with people on campus and in the Binghamton community. I began to make friends from schools all across New York State and would receive texts before the next convention asking “Hey are you coming to DCON? I can’t wait to catch up!” Being involved with Circle K for my fours years at Binghamton gave me the opportunity to grow as a leader as I went from club member to secretary, vice president, and president. I was so grateful to have the opportunity to watch the club grow in size, dedication, and love. When I look back on my time at Binghamton some of my favorite memories are from my time spent with Circle K! Now that I have graduated I am in graduate school pursuing a Masters in Mathematics Education. I miss Circle K, but am still actively volunteering around my home town area and am looking forward to joining my local Kiwanis club soon! Enjoy your time at Binghamton and in Circle K, get to know the people around you, and do it all while giving back and serving your community!
