Parent company Ochoco Lumber has done ern about-face, one ycar after announcing that, due to lack of sun_ ply. it would close Mulheur Lumber Co., John Day. Or.-the last remaining lumber mill in Oregon's Grant County (se c Se1;r.2012, p. 33).

Ochoco will instead invest $2 million to $4 million to modernize the facility, so it can process smaller locs.

LP to Buy Ainsworth

Louisiana-Pacific, Nashville, Tn., has agreed to acquire Ainsworth, Vancouver, B.C., for $ I I billion.

OSB Capacity Roaring Back

OSB capacity is expected to expand as a resurgent U.S. housing murkct drives up demand lbr lumbe.-r and wood panel products, according to a new RISI study.

Additional capacity will come from idle mills being reopened, expansions at currently operating locations, and potentially from newly opened mills. Abour 4.5 billion sa. li. in increases to OSB capacity hus already been announced as coming on line through 20 14.

SDS Fined FollowingAccident

SDS Lumber, Bingen, Wa., has been fined more than $244,000 for safety and health violations after a worker was seriously hurt.

According to the Washington Department of Labor & lndustries, lick of training and proper safety procedures left a plywood plant worker with severe injuries last March when he tried to clear a jam and his arms became entangled in machinerY.
