A letter from the Secretary Elect. To Key Clubbers, I feel like Key Club is an amazing way to give back to your community. I love the message it has about helping others, ultamatly making the world a better place. Through Key Club I have gained so many expierences all while truely enjoying myself. I somehow always manage to ahve a much better time than I thought I would beforehand. This leads me to explain my desire for improving Key Club in the future. I believe that many of the members see it to be a hassle to attend an event because they have no desire. Since they have never expierenced the good times that comes with being at an event, member just give up on Key Club all together. I would like to implement changes in this following year to keep Key Clubbers interested and attending events constantly, rising the help factor. ~Shivani Dalal

A letter from the Editor Elect. Hey Key Clubbers! As the upcoming Key Club Editor, I’m so super excited to play an integral part in developing and maturing the BHS Key Club over the next year. I can’t wait to decorate the school in posters, amplify Key Club events over the morning announcements, hash out an amazing monthly newsletter, and do everything I can to help our club prosper. I think it’s important that you’re aware that it is YOU that are reading this newsletter now, YOU that have stuck with Key Club all year, that keep the Club alive and serving the community. Without you, we would fall apart. And I can’t thank you enough. In the next year, I hope to double or even triple our attendance, chasing after every service opportunity in our community and further. I’m itching with anticipation just thinking about the upcoming year; I hope you’re as excited as I am! ~Paulina Borowski

Passion for Plarn On March 16, Key Clubbers congregated to the famous Room 247 for the monthly Plarn Party. Never heard of “plarn”? That’s most likely because it is a made up word, a word that only exists in a Key Clubber’s dictionary. Here’s the rundown: plarn is a an awkward word for plastic yarn. This “yarn” is made in a very intricate manner that involves Wal-mart bags and scissors - a dangerous endeavor. However, the Key Clubbers fought through the taxing task for the greater good. You see, this plarn is taken by the two talented crocheters, Alie Shipman and Payton Hudak, and woven into a mat. Once these mats are complete, they will be shipped to third-world countries as birthing mats, serving as a sanitation precaution for mothers who don’t have the luxury to give birth in a bleached hospital room. Because a complete mat is composed of a ridiculous amount of manual labor and tears, the Clubbers have yet to stitch a whole one together, but progress can be measured week by week.
While Member Lauren Lardy prepares the plastic bags to become plarn, Member Payton Hudak works vigerously to crochet the plastic ball into a birthing mat.
Dedicated to their chrocheting, Members Alie Shipman and Payton Hudak teadiously wove the plastic yarn into what will be birthing mats. At the same time, member Paulina Borowski creates the plastic yarn material for the two crocheters
Members Alie Shipman, Payton Hudak, Lauren Lardry, and Paulina Borowski concentrate on their task of putting together this intricate creating pf plastic bags for the mothers in Uganda.

A Scene Filled with Gre*n
On March 17, Key Clubber’s gathered in Room 237 for the annual St. Patrick’s Day social. The event started with quiet nibbling on scrumptious brownies, but once the lights turned down and the Irish music turned up, the party was on. Key Clubbers engaged in an intense game of “Concentration,” fumbling on names of colors, movies, animals, and other tricky subjects in order to win the ultimate prize of bragging rights. Competitive tension drifted through the air with yet another intense challenge that involved avoiding the word “green.” Many tactics of warfare were successfully used initially, but as the party came to a close, everyone was on their toes, refusing to speak the forbidden word. In the end, tensions were at an all time high, but were soon deflated as the prize was announced to be absolutely nothing, much to the dismay of certain winning Clubbers. To the right, Betty Canizares is shocked to see her picture taken as she is taking her turn in the game. Above, Payton Hudak munches on a brownie. To the left, Key Club members, Jakob Sevier, Nithure Rema, Lauren Lardy, Paulina Borowski, Betty Canizares, Payton Hudak, and Alie Shipman concentrate for a game of “Concentration.” During the game, Lauren Lardy asks, “Do insects count as animals?”
Below, Alie Shipman, Bailey Faubion, and others laugh at a fumble another Club member made. To the right, Jakob Sevier coldly calls out another member for repeating a phrase that was already said.

Bounce Houses and Babies
On March 28, the Burleson High School Key Club was scheduled to volunteer at the food bank, but with an unlucky turn of events, that service event was canceled. But never fear! There was another service opportunity for the clubbers at the Greenbriar Community Center. The Key Club members arrived at the community center around 2 p.m. to help with a festival-style function. The Key Clubbers started in the hair room, helping the salon ladies give free haircuts to the visitors. When a hairdresser was finished with a client, one of the Key Club members read off of the list, announcing who was next, while the remaining clubbers took turns sweeping up the hair that had fallen to the floor. Once the time in the hair room was up, the BHS Key Clubbers switched positions with the North Crowley Key Clubbers who were outside watching the kids in the bounce houses. While outside, the Burleson Key Club members divided themselves and were positioned at two separate bounce houses. The Key Clubbers stood at the opening of each bounce house to make sure that the kids did not fall and hurt themselves. This was a great way for the members to serve the children of the community by making sure they were safe while playing.
Member Naomi Mitchelle stands in front of one of the bounce houses to watch the children play.
Member Nithure Rema sweeps up hair after one of the ladies is finished with a haircut.
