Letter From The President Hey Key Clubbers, Woah, I can’t believe Summer is almost over. August is here and you know what that means- school is coming. I know we’re all dreading the first day of school, but I personally can’t wait to see all of my friends’ faces again. I know none of us are actually excited to go back because of homework and late night cramming sessions, but I know I am super excited to start another school year full of fun & service. I’m excited to see old and new faces at our weekly club meetings, service projects, and socials. Hopefully I’ll see you there! Yours in service, Nithure Rema
Letter From The Vice President Hey, Key Clubbers! Summer is looked at as a time for fun in the sun and lounging by the pool all day. But in reality, it’s a time for watching Netflix, sleeping in until half the day is over, and most importantly, attending Key Club events! Service is a virtue and the sole purpose of Key Club International and it’s important to remember that although summer is the era of laziness, members should make it a priority to attend as many summer events as possible. Make sure to stay updated with the BHS Key Club social media (Twitter+Facebook) and feel free to contact any officer for more information on upcoming events. Keep serving and have a wonderful rest of summer! -Skyelar Armstrong, VP 2

Slow Start at Salvation; Sucess Still
On the 10th of July, Key Clubbers met at the Fort Worth Salvation Army to help serve lunches to those in need. Upon arrival, Key Clubbers were sent to organize and stock the pantry. In less than an hour, the pantry’s original state was masked by alphabetized soup and neatly stacked canned goods. As the first lunch came along, members helped clean off tables, put up trays, and assist those in need. It seemed as if it would be a slow day, with hardly any interaction with those that were being served; but then the last lunch came around. The line of people waiting to be served went out the door and the need for extra assistance was at its peak. Secretary Shivani Dalal actively waited by the line, ready to help carry a tray or refill a drink. Vice President Skyelar Armstrong was waved down by a man, asking for assistance in helping another man who was unable to carry his own tray. “The man I helped had a walker and he barely spoke a word to me, but helping him get to his seat and making sure he was okay really brought a smile to my face. I didn’t do a lot, but I made a difference for that man,” Armstrong said. With lunch at it’s end, Key Clubbers washed down the tables and put up chairs. Although the time at Salvation Army was at an end, the inspirational spark to keep on serving lived on in each member that attended. Article by: Skyelar Armstrong

Camp David Social On July 18th, Key Clubbers had a blast with members of clubs from Division 1 South and 1 North at the Camp David Social hosted by North Crowley. Upon arrival, the Clubbers were each greeted personally by North Crowley President Daisy Doan and other Key Clubbers who welcomed everyone enthusiastically. For their first order of business, Clubbers ate a wonderful lunch with everyone and cleaned up. Afterwards the name game was played, a game that helped everyone learn not only names, but also where the other Clubbers went to school and what they liked to do. Burleson Clubber Nithure Rema admitted, “I am personally bad at remembering things in general, but now I think I can remember everyone’s name, school, and thing they liked from that circle. “ The Clubbers then played more team building games and exercises such as the ball game, a focus-heavy game, Moon Ball, involving a bag of balloons that couldn’t touch the ground, and more. Of the many activities, the water balloon fight was perhaps the most eventful, as Clubbers ganged up to hit Regional Advisor Donna Newsham with some balloons. Nithure Rema’s personal favorite of the night was “Jenga 2.0 with bigger blocks that was all about taking risks.” Towards the end of the social, everyone gathered around the campfire to eat s’mores, burn any of their burdens on a piece of paper, and reflect on their day. By the end of the night, Key Clubbers from all over learned so much about each other, themselves, and the power of teamwork.

Sweet Treats What better way to start off the month of July than to watch movies and make root beer floats? On July 1st, Key Clubbers met at Shivani Dalal’s house for a much-needed root beer float social. The movie of the night was “Jupiter Ascending,” a thrilling compliment to the delicious treat that satisfied the craving of multiple Clubbers. When the movie ended and the ice cream ran out, Clubbers walked out of the house happier and (not so much) healthier than they came.

Just as the month started on a good note, so it ended on one. On July 30, also known as Miracle Treat Day, the Burleson Key Clubbers met at their local Dairy Queen to support a great cause. On Miracle Treat Day, all participating Dairy Queens donate a portion of their blizzard sales to the Children’s Miracle Network. The manager of Burleson’s Dairy Queen said that the place had “so many people coming in and buying blizzards for the cause.” The manager also informed the Clubbers that half of the profit from the blizzards went straight to the Children’s Miracle Network. So, on this beautiful day, the Key Clubbers put their money into the great cause by buying delicious blizzards or simply making donations. What better way to end the month than simoultaneously eating ice cream and saving lives?
