Beautiful Feet & Best of
A letter from the Historian Hey guys!! Gosh, this year has been crazy amazing for us as a Key Club. We’ve gone from not being recognized for anything at DCON last year to now being ranked as one of the Top 25 clubs in Texas and Oklahoma, all in a matter of months. That’s amazing! It is all because of your commitment and dedication that we have gotten this far, and with a bit more commitment and dedication I know that we can go even farther! If you haven’t completely fallen in love with service this year, you’re doing it wrong. I’ll admit when I first joined Key Club as a freshman I never imagined I would be where I am today. Yet here I am, completely and utterly in love with Key Club and everything it stands for. I have a heart for service, and if you don’t understand that then you probably should come to more service projects. Key Club has taught me so many valuable life lessons that I hope you will one day learn as well. Keep on Serving, ~Vanessa~

A letter from the Webmaster Hello Fellow Key Clubbers, This is my first officer message to you all so I am a bit nervous. I am really glad to see all of the new faces this year, it is unfortunate that I can not be to every event to see them. Although. I can not stress enough the importance it is for EVERYONE to be an ACTIVE member of Key Club. Key Club is an opportunity, not only to help the community and ourselves (for job/college applications) through community service, but to have an opportunity to be a part of an organization for growth, exposure, and the enrichment of “brotherhood/sisterhood.” Therefore, it is important to be more than a member, someone who shows up to meetings and eats donuts, but an active member. Our Burleson Key Club is in the top twenty-five percent! That is exciting! We have yet to do that, so you could only imagine how high our rank would be if 10 or more members show up to each event. I am the officer that had strong feelings, and voiced those feelings, at the club meeting January 21, 2015. I did not mean to offend, annoy or spark hard feeling with anyone, but it is important for not only yourself, but the club itself, to reach its highest potential. This means participation from the members. I hope everyone understands the legacy I want to leave behind as one of your 2014-2015 Senior Officers. Thank you for all you do to make this organization. ~ Payton Kinsey

More Than Mud!
Key Clubbers pass out hot dogs and cookies with Beautiful Feet Ministries. On January 16, the Burleson Key Clubbers left from their school to help out at the Beautiful Feet Ministries in Fort Worth. The Burleson Key Club has helped this ministry before, but as club members drove to Fort Worth, they had no idea what they were going to be doing. The night began with a worship service at the Beautiful Feet Ministries facility, before, leaving to serve the community. The BHS Key Clubbers were not the only group there to serve that night. Several groups from other towns participated, ready to help others. Before loading up on a bus, the Key Clubbers were told that they would be assigned to help in various homeless camps. Volunteers arrived to find a row of tents and makeshift fences positioned deep into the trees and away from the busy road. The woman who was in charge of the camps told the Key Clubbers they were to partner with a member of Beautiful Feet, and give each homeless camp resident a hot dog and a bag of cookies, before asking them how they are doing and praying over them. The Key Club Members met quite a few of different people that night, some who had lost their homes or their jobs and some who lost so much more. That night, the Burleson Key Clubbers walked through mud and dirt, navigating their way through tree limbs and rocks, but they had also gained something far more valuable than a bag of cookies could ever supply; they had experienced the joy of showing someone who had so little that they are loved.
With a smile on their faces, the key clubbers approach the woods where the tents were set up. They met new people and gave them a hot dog and a bag of cookies.
Members Taylor Jeffery, Anisa Vidic, Vanessa Castañeda, Nithure Rema, Skyelar Armstrong, Alie Shipman, and Everman guest Merlin Chavarria help out at the Beautiful Feet Ministries.
Best of Mexico Celebration Member Skyelar Armstrong and Pascal member Jillian wait to greet people as they walk into the Fort Worth Stock Show for the Best of Mexico
If you were unable to attend the Best of Mexico event held at the Fort Worth Stock Show on Sunday, January 19th, you sure missed out on a wonderful experience! It was my first time at the Best of Mexico Celebration alongside Treasurer Nithure Rema and members Brett Barrett and Bailey Faubion, who all helped work the evening shift. Standing by one of the front gates, it was our job to greet and bid farewell to guests. I found it amazing how spirited and welcoming all of the Stock Show workers were. It was inspiring to see the smiles on their faces even after all the long hours on their feet. I remember one of the men there telling our group to “show pride in our Texas culture.” We were told that some people come from all the way across the country just to attend the Best of Mexico Celebration annually. Their positive attitudes made me feel truly proud to be able to interact with all the guests. Along with the amazing time we all had serving there, we also had the honor to meet a member of the Paschal High School Key Club. On top of being a great day, it was a great inter-club event as well!

DCON is Around the Corner!
Why go to DCON? District Convention is not only a time where you can interact with other clubs from your district, it is an opportunity to learn leadership skills as well as all the ins and outs of Key Club. Clubs from all over Texas and Oklahoma meet at the Sheraton Hotel in Dallas for a weekend filled with helpful information. The weekend kicks off with a night of theme-related games so that Key Clubbers can get to know each other. The lieutenant governors of each division and other board members host forums. Which are leadership training opportunities that everyone, officers and members, attend. Meetings with the district clubs and the board of officers are a great opportunity for clubs to come together and discuss their successful moments during the school year in addition to giving suggestions to aid other clubs. Meetings and training is not everything that DCON has to offer; competitions are held including: the contest for the best costume, scrapbook, and T-shirt. This leadership convention does not have a restricted guest list! Anyone can attend. Another aspect of Dcon is the ads that are sold. DCON ads can be written to promote a kiwanis member, an important Key Club member, or anyone who has helped your club.
