Hola amigos! The Spanish Film Festival closes tonight at Palace Cinema with the Oscar nominated film ‘Wild Tales’. Tickets are $27 or $24 if you’re a Movie Club Member. If you’re offended by lycra then consider yourself warned…the Byron Triathlon is on this Saturday so there’s sure to be a lot of lycra clad people walking around town. There are all sorts of events so everyone can get involved, check out byronbaytri.com.au for more info (and for details on road closures from 12 to 3:45pm). Saturday from 4 to 10pm is the annual Festival of the Stone at Stone & Wood Brewery. In addition to the launch of their limited release brew, there will be epic food, live music, raffles, art stalls and more. Open to everyone for a gold coin entry which helps to raise funds for not-for-profits. On Sunday night at the Beach Hotel, KLP (DJ Set) and Young Franco take the stage and drop some funky beats. They’ve both been pegged as ‘artists to watch’ and know how to get you moving so lock it in. Don’t forget it’s also Mothers Day on Sunday too. If your Mum is local, you could take her to the Gluten Free High Tea hosted by Nuni Sweet Treats and Jules Galloway at Corrabell Hall featuring a range of delicious (almost) healthy treats in a gorgeous vintage setting (julesgalloway.com or 0414669979 to book tickets). Anonymous __________________________________________ What insane person thought it would be a good idea to attach a loud beeping noise to a vehicle. With the works going on near the golf course in Sunrise I am having to listen to this beeping noise from about 8am to 6pm, everyday. It’s driving me insane! Surely this is noise pollution. Build a fence around the area you’re working in and don’t let anybody in until you ﬁnish.

Diesel Doubts

Carolyn Wessels __________________________________________ I ﬁnd it ironic that Elements of Byron, a health resort, is undertaking restoration of an old diesel train. While the new buildings will be sensitively designed, they seem to have no problem pumping diesel into the air. Diesel fuel is currently being phased out in Europe because the exhaust fumes have been declared carcinogenic for humans. Diesel exhaust contains toxic air contaminants and particles pumped into the air that are so ﬁne that it is absorbed into the body leading to causes such as terminal illnesses. Elements of Byron don’t know at this stage how often the old diesel train will be running along people’s backyards. Why is their ‘barefoot luxury’ not being held accountable for Byron Bay residents and ecological sustainability? They seem to be doing anything they want.

A. The RSMS is designed for skilled foreign workers seeking
