DO YOU JUMP OUT OF
bed in the morning, keen to tackle the day ahead? Or do you reluctantly roll out, still half asleep, in no mood to jump, skip or even stroll into the daylight until you’ve downed your first coffee? If you’re a roller like me, I have something that might help. I call it my “Sherbet Zest Bomb” and it’s guaranteed to give your life a sense of excitement, energy and adventure when combined with a lovely early morning black coffee. First, some prep. Planning for the zest bomb starts the night before. Switch off the news, or football, or bachelors in paradise, and put on some chilled music. I go for a bit of John Mayer, Terence Trent D’arby or maybe Pharrell Williams choose your own playlist. Next, get the ingredients together for what will be a lemon breakfast brownie mix: • 1 cup white flour; ¾ cup sugar, ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon baking soda, • ¼ cup porridge oats, ¼ cup desiccated coconut, 2 eggs, ½ cup plain Greek yogurt, • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil, zest of 2 lemons, • 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. For the extra zing and zest we’re looking for in the morning, we need to add my famous lemon sherbet glaze topping; • ½ cup icing sugar, zest of 1 lemon, 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, • 2 tablespoons citric acid powder, 2 teaspoons lemon jelly crystals. OK, we’re ready to mix. With the music grooving, open a nice, crisp bottle of Riesling, or maybe a buttery Chardonnay. Sip your first glass, and it’s on with the prep: • Preheat your smart electric oven to 180° C, • Coat a 20 x 20 cm square baking pan with cooking spray (coconut oil if you have it), • Put all brownie ingredients into a bowl and stir by hand until smooth (about 30 seconds), then spread batter in the pan and bake for about 25 minutes. • Remove from oven and cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes. You’re well on the way, so reward yourself with another glass. Now stir all the glaze ingredients together in a bowl until spreadable. When the brownies are completely cool, spread the glaze over the top. That’s it – well done! But no eating yet, not even licking the spoon – that will ruin the taste of the third glass. You could slice the brownies into edible portions tonight – just be careful with that sharp knife. Slosh what’s left of the bottle into your glass, sit back in the lounge and croon along to the Mayer blues. When you wake up in the morning, first things first – time to turn that wine into water. Next, put on the coffee pot and chomp into the first slice. Those taste buds will be alive. Go on – have another – the Quest for Zest is a success - chow down and chill out - you’ve earned it. Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST
THURSDAY IS A GREAT DAY TO GET
together with friends and like-minded people. Venus, the love goddess unites with the North Node in Gemini. Fated meetings might take place and great ideas might be spun; not all of them will be practical, but at least there is a great deal of inspiration. On Saturday Lady Venus moves into homely, protective and nurturing Cancer, where she is very touchy/feely and at times a bit moody. She takes about a month to traverse the Cancerian realm. Internal conflict about whether to stay safe (Venus) or move forward heroically (Mars in Aries) could mess up your inner equilibrium during the weekend. If you are not sure where and how to invest your energy, cleaning up your space or engaging in some home renovation might be an excellent choice. Monday is not the day to raise difficult issues or ask for cooperation. Mercury in Leo is rather self-centred and forms a passionate firetrine to Chiron, which may open up old wounds. Also Mercury and Uranus are in a challenging square and some people might display a short fuse, in particular concerning issues of right/wrong. On top of that, an irritating Mars/Pluto square is building (exact 13/8) which can easily inflame strained relationships with authorities, superiors or anyone who tries to tell you what to do. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

d CAPRICORN
The Prince of Disks symbolises slow and steady, down-to-earth energy. With him by your side you may be able to transform your daily life to a pace that is very beneficial for your nervous system. You still get things done and actually might be more efficient because you don’t miss small details.
The 9 of Cups is a very social, happy and outgoing card. A get-together with friends and family before the weekend might uplift your spirit for quite a while and infuse you with profound wellbeing and a feeling of belonging. The more generously you give the more graciously you receive.
i GEMINI
The 9 of Swords represents an overactive mind that may cause anxiety, suspicion and severe self-judgement. No matter what your worries or regrets are, being hard on yourself won’t make it better. As soon as you realise your destructive thoughts, ask yourself how you can change your inner self-talk to that of a good friend, rather than a worst enemy.
j CANCER
The Magician Tarot card promises an interesting and surprising week. Opportunities to create miracles might present themselves out of the blue and you may come closer to realising your true potential. Most important are setting your intentions, a steady mental focus, straightforward communication and excellent timing.
The 6 of Cups symbolises goodwill and acts of random kindness. Imagine yourself as a beacon of light that brings hope and reassurance into other’s lives. As you offer these you get a chance to receive much gratitude in return. Spending more time with children is especially delightful right now.
With the 4 of Wands drawn this is the week to tie up loose ends and bring a project or a chapter of your life to completion. It is important to realise when that moment arrives, because you easily get lost in small details. Your inner perfectionist could make you waste time and energy that would be better invested in looking for new opportunities.
a LIBRA
The 6 of Wands speaks of triumph and success. As a Libran you can only experience the full satisfaction of it if you know that anyone else involved is also feeling good about the outcome. Your yardstick for a job well done is if you can create harmonious win/win situations, and this comes easily right now.
b SCORPIO
The 4 of Swords symbolises the process of exploring what keeps you stressed, anxious, on the edge or overwhelmed and how to take responsibility for it. This card proposes that you first look into your own heart and mind, to determine how to gain more inner peace and how to reconcile with yourself what is most important, before you relate to others.
With the Star Tarot card drawn you naturally boost your confidence without inflating the ego. You may encounter situations that make you aware of your boundaries and limits, but gently taking care of yourself allows you to direct your creative energies exactly where you want them to flow.
When the Wheel of Fortune appears you are granted an opportunity to turn things around and to get more of what you want. When you see a chance, don’t hesitate for too long. Don’t get stuck in worst case scenarios, rather focus on awakening to new possibilities and gaining a greater perspective with expanded possibilities.
e AQUARIUS
The 7 of Disks symbolises rather limited and constricted energy, or a fear of failure which may render you unable to make a decisive move. It is a valuable process to assess your motivations and question your choices, but you have to make sure that you don’t get stuck in very old, self-sabotaging and restrictive patterns. Take the opportunity to move beyond them before you act.
f PISCES
With the Death Tarot card drawn you come to the end of the road and something has to give. You are entering a phase of profound change, transformation and renewal. It does not work to hang on right now or lament about what is lost; the more you resist the necessary endings, the more pain you feel. What would be your most exciting and expansive outlook right now?

DEAR KEENWA,
I recently paid twenty-two big ones (plus GST) for a cardboard cut-out. Of myself. So I think I am in fact watching my fave footy team play from the stadium stands (that are Covid closed). Except i'm not. I'm at home in my pyjamas watching myself and the game from the couch. With a backing track of humans cheering on cue. Because currently, cardboard is unable to cheer. Now i'm writing it all down, I think this might have been a bit of a gimmick for conceited footy players. What do you reckon? - Footy Fanatic
DEAR FOOTY FANATIC,
I reckon that when they open up the stadium to 25% human capacity and you get into a biffo with the fans on the opposing team, instead of the old onetwo knock out, you'll just light a match. End of story. The real concern is, how did the cardboard you get through the QLD border patrol?
DEAR KEENWA,
I've never had so many phone numbers. I literally only have to look at a woman and she dishes it out. Chicks in heels, some on a girls' night out, some dining with their grandma, some riding solo and looking lonely. Digits, digits, digits. I really don't know who to call next. It feels like Christmas. Oh, i'm a pub bouncer. - Code of Courtship
DEAR CODE OF COURTSHIP,
Well so far i've given a fake name twice, and a dodgy number three times. That damn pub clipboard is just sitting there at the entrance way, all sticky with beer yeast and smelling of desperate fingers. I've never seen the pen be sterilised. What If my ex-hubbie whom I have an AVO out against walks past and finds i'm there, and kills me on the way home? What if I ghosted a Tinder freak and they see I don't in fact have the flu, but am alive and well on yet another boring Tinder date?

This week's review
TITLE: Fooled by Randomness AUTHOR: Nassim Nicholas Taleb NUMBER OF PAGES: 291 READING TIME: 5 hours 12 minutes PRICE: $26.95 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Before his international bestseller
The Black Swan gave us all another perspective on science and truth, Nassim Taleb published this analysis on the incidence of chance and its impact on life. Taleb was a very successful trader of financial investments, who made a lot of money for himself and his clients through his mastery of, amongst other things, probability and behavioural economics. He became a Professor in the Sciences of Uncertainty, dedicating his life to the study and practical application of luck, skill, random events and probability.
WHO IT'S FOR: Human beings tend to view the world
as more explainable than it really is, so we look for patterns and explanations even when there are none. We attribute our successes to skill, but our failures to random chance and events out of our control. Taleb provides reasons to re-think these definitions.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: The book can be complex

and Taleb can sometimes appear arrogant, but his counter intuitive arguments and humorous anecdotes make for interesting reading. Taleb analyses “chance” in finance, investing, careers, world events and evolution. Mathematical concepts like survivorship bias, skewed distributions, probability, Monte Carlo simulations, mean, median and average all seem to make sense the way he explains them. He warns about the destructive noise of “undistilled information” like news, commentary and reactionary opinions, which mask the true signals of thoughtful analysis.
NOTABLE QUOTES: “It does not matter how frequently
something succeeds if failure is too costly to bear. / A mistake is not something to be determined after the fact, but in light of the information available up until that point.”

This week's recommendation
ALBUM TITLE: Unfollow the Rules ARTIST: Rufus Wainwright RELEASED: July 2020 GENRE: Operatic Baroque Pop BIO: Rufus Wainwright’s self-titled debut album was
released in May 1998. An accomplished and creative musician, Rufus possesses a unique and soothing tenor voice. This is his ninth studio album and his first new pop album since 2012. Rufus became interested in opera as a teenager and has written two classical operas. That influence permeates this album, which is set out like an opera in three acts. WHAT TO EXPECT: Producer Mitchell Froom (Crowded House, Paul McCartney, Randy Newman) has brought the best out of Rufus, aided by a group of seasoned and extremely talented session musicians. Unfollow The Rules highlights Wainwright’s glorious, dramatic and passionate vocals and is full of his creative journeys into jazz, opera, pop and folk. WHAT WE LIKE: There’s a bit of Randy Newman in the opening track and first single Trouble in Paradise, and plenty of that distinctive, Rufus tenor. The Joni Mitchell inspired Damsel in Distress highlights acoustic guitars and symbolic lyrics. Peaceful Afternoon is a lush and dramatic piece featuring strings and percussion. After some light romance, most of side 2 of the album sees Rufus move through some of the darker moods of his life - the melancholy darkness and orchestrated haze of Early Morning Madness, the conflict and drama of Hatred, and finally Alone Time, reflecting the isolation of COVID and blending Rufus on vocals and piano. STANDOUT TRACKS: Damsel In Distress, Romantical Man, Only The People That Love. PERFECT FOR: This needs a long session – a romantic candlelit dinner, a cool cocktail evening, a morning hangover and a mellow period of reflection. LISTEN IN IF YOU LIKE: Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley.
