LAST NIGHT I FOUND MYSELF CONTEMPLATING WHETHER OR NOT

to switch on the news. I like to get my nightly fix of world affairs and local gossip, sitting down after dinner with a nice glass of shiraz. But I’m finding the wine doesn’t taste so good when served up with a side of outrage, and that’s all the television news has to offer. Who’s outraged at who, who should be feeling outraged, and why aren’t I outraged too? The prevalence of outrage is outrageous - no wonder I find myself suffering from indigestion! I have decided that in times like these it is better to look away from the distraction of the daily news and instead seek the guidance and inspiration of philosophy and history - and who better to turn to than King Arthur. Arthur lived in the tenth century, when there was plenty to be outraged about – REALLY outraged about. He knew it, and he wanted to change the world for the better. He rounded up a motley crew for support, awarded them Knighthoods, and set off on a quest to establish utopia – “Camelot”. The best way to get a dose of Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table is to relive that period of history through the lens of “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”. In case you haven’t seen it, I’ll give you the Wikipedia summary. In AD 932, King Arthur and his squire, Patsy, travel throughout Britain searching for men to join the Knights of the Round Table. Along the way, Arthur debates whether swallows could carry coconuts, recounts receiving Excalibur from the Lady of the Lake and defeats the Black Knight. He recruits Sir Bedevere the Wise, Sir Lancelot the Brave, Sir Galahad the Pure and Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave-asSir-Lancelot. Arthur leads the knights to Camelot, but upon further consideration he decides not to go there because it is "a silly place". As they turn away, God appears and orders Arthur to find the Holy Grail. That neat refresher course has put current affairs back into context and made wine nights pleasurable again. History is once again being repeated. Our leaders enlist white knights to battle the evil black knights, as we hope and cheer from the grandstands. As Camelot tarnishes and fades, goal posts are moved, the Grail remains unreachable, and the punters just get angry. Maybe we should all take a chill pill and realise that Camelot is right here, right now - the outrage is just manipulation. Tony Byron Bazaar

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

THE JUPITER/PLUTO CONJUNCTION IN

Capricorn remains incredibly intense and because both planets are on their retrograde cycle, it is time to rework and reconsider any options concerning big issues. At a global and national level you can witness compulsive, fanatic and over the top tendencies. Personally this planetary combination may be challenging your beliefs and what you perceive as truth or lies. During the weekend Lady Venus in Gemini combines favourably with Chiron in Aries. This transit may help to open minds in celebration of diversity and it is a small, short-lived antidote to the prevailing Jupiter/Pluto severity. An inspiring Sun/ Neptune water trine is also building (exact on Monday), it may bring great spiritual upliftment and hopefully it makes your creative juices flow, but stay aware of possible deception or wishful thinking! Also on Monday Mercury, the planet that represents the intellect, communication and travel, turns direct. Stay patient though, because it will take Mercury another two weeks to move beyond his retrograde shadow into new territory. This is a confrontational and intense time, at least until the 21st of July, while the Sun moves into opposition to Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn. Huge power struggles within and on a global level may upset even the most level-headed person. Over-extension and over-confidence may cause largescale problems, but too many limitations and regulations might have the same effect. On Tuesday Mars in Aries unites with Chiron; together they promote the confident warrior archetype, and for a moment it may feel as if a battle of wills could solve problems or at least clean the air! On a more positive note this transit may inspire the rise of brave and courageous freedom fighters, who have potential to become heroes. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

The 3 of Wands symbolises the unity of mind, body and spirit; all three need to be aligned so you can permanently dwell in a state of integrity. This is your path to master the intensity of Mars, the warrior archetype in your sign, not only for now, but for the rest of the year. Foresight is better than hindsight!

The Hanged Man Tarot card relates to that part of yourself that is willing to love and care for yourself enough, to break limiting or destructive patterns. Often these are related to the ego and as you move beyond, a new perspective emerges. The keyword for this week is surrender.

i GEMINI

With the 10 of Wands drawn you either repress difficult feelings and present a cool facade to the world, or you may feel deeply restricted and restrained by rules that were imposed on you from above. Your reactivity and resistance can be very exhausting for you and others as well. Take time off to de-stress and relax.

j CANCER

The 6 of Cups promises lots of pleasure, in particular if you are celebrating your birthday this week. Most likely you choose to spend it at home with all your loved ones. If that is not possible, think about how you can use random acts of kindness to enhance your life and that of strangers.

The Knight of Disks is a hard worker and he has proven time after time that he has lots of stamina. With him by your side you have no problem persevering, but you may lack flexibility in your thinking. You may not realise when it is time to alter your course or quit altogether and search greener pastures.

The Star Tarot card showers you with grace and inspiration. While others may struggle, your week is flowing beautifully because you are starting to trust yourself more than ever. There is a deep commitment to actualise your innovative and constructive ideas, it provides you with radiant confidence and power to manifest what you visualise.

a LIBRA

The Knight of Swords indicates intense desires and instincts that call for action. With him by your side you are decisive, ambitious and on a passionate mission. Nothing and no one can stop you! Success is yours, but maybe you have to pay a high price for it, which at this time you don’t mind.

b SCORPIO

The Empress Tarot card demonstrates feminine leadership that comes straight from the heart. At times you have protected your inner, soft, tender and caring side because of old fears of being taken advantage of or looking weak, but now that you can trust yourself fully you can allow this part of yourself to shine and be seen.

With the 10 of Cups drawn you focus on heartfulfilment. For you this means being surrounded by like-minded friends, family and community, working on common goals and sharing your energy and enthusiasm. Much can be achieved, but most important are the collective joy and well-being.

The Knight of Cups offers you an opportunity or brings a positive message that uplifts your spirit. With him by your side you are more open to receiving and being taken care of. For now you don’t have to work it all out by yourself and struggle alone; allow others to cater to your needs as you always do for them.

e AQUARIUS

With the 3 of Cups drawn this is the perfect time for a spontaneous get-together with friends and family to celebrate life, love and unity in diversity. This is also the week to connect, network and share resources for business success, all under the banner of team-spirit.

f PISCES

The 8 of Swords indicates a recurring difficulty with keeping clear boundaries. As a super-sensitive and impressionable being, at times you get confused about whose feelings you are experiencing and accommodating. Time alone helps you to sort out how you feel and figure out your next step.

DEAR KEENWA,

Don't all lives matter? Why does it have to be about race all the time? I know lots of white people that have experienced just as much violence as black folk do, and shouldn't we all just be treated equally? Aren't I entitled to an opinion, without being bullied or called names? I am a nice person and care about others regardless of their skin colour. - MeToo

DEAR METOO,

Oh, entitled you sure are. You feel that defensive kicker? What about meeeeee, it isn't fair. See how you cannot let the moment be about another group for just a second without considering yourself? Described by Robin DiAngelo in her book of the same name, white fragility is, “discomfort and defensiveness on the part of a white person when confronted by information about racial inequality and injustice.” For most of history, its been your moment, right now just isn't one.

DEAR KEENWA,

My kid's best mate at school is never available for playdates. We have tried to organise one for over a year. Like, i'm running out of excuses to tell my beloved child, any ideas? - Mother Misery

DEAR MOTHER MISERY,

You could try telling them the truth. That not everyone has the time, resources, luxury of attending playdates. Not every parent has the respite of another adult to support them through the daily battle field. Not every mum has the patience to be maid, lifeguard, cafe kitchen hand, and referee for her own children, let alone additional others.Tough, I know, but think of the resilience you are modelling! Playdates are a bit like avocados. I didn't even try one in my infancy, those creamy green mashed fruits made it to my tastebuds, not until I had a driver's license. Now it is a first food staple, and at $4.99 a pop those organic ones. Look, what i'm trying to say is, it made me.

This week's review

TITLE: A Theory of the Consumption Function AUTHOR: Milton Friedman NUMBER OF PAGES: 396 READING TIME: years PRICE: $35.00 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: This is a very different review – we

don’t expect you to read this book. But first published in 1957, Friedman’s consumption theories are seen as landmark work for one of the centuries most revered economists. Through this and subsequent writings, Friedman came to dominate western government thinking, replacing the Keynesian views of the time. Whereas Keynes supported expansionary government spending, Friedman argued for smaller government and free trade. Don’t underestimate how much of our life has been impacted by Milton Friedman.

WHO IT'S FOR: Business shut downs, JobKeeper, JobSeeker, infrastructure spending – these are now every day discussions. Friedman and Keynes have very different views on how governments should participate in economies in times like these. Both won’t be right, and maybe the solution this time will need to be a blend of the two. WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: Friedman is back in the news

again, 14 years after his death, and 60 years after this book was published. His ideas concerning monetary policy, taxation, privatization and deregulation undoubtedly framed many government’s responses to the GFC of 2008. His policy suggestions and propositions, as adapted and enacted by governments responding to the current COVID induced recession, may well determine our health, wealth and happiness for the foreseeable future. You might want to read something about them.

NOTABLE QUOTES: “Only a crisis — actual or perceived

— produces real change. When that crisis occurs, the actions that are taken depend on the ideas that are lying around. That, I believe, is our basic function: to develop alternatives to existing policies, to keep them alive and available until the politically impossible becomes the politically inevitable.”

ALBUM TITLE: City Of The Sun ARTIST: City Of The Sun RELEASED: June 2020 GENRE: Acoustic post-rock BIO: Formed in 2011, guitarists John Pita, Avi Snow,

and percussionist Zach Para round out the trio. The band’s sound has an array of influences including indie rock, American folk, flamenco, and blues; it’s been called worldly, cinematic, a mix between Rodrigo y Gabriela and Explosions in the Sky. The experiential music of city of the sun is the sound you didn’t know you were missing. NYC’s powerhouse trio flip the perception of instrumental music, attracting a whole new generation to the genre.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Melodic beats, flamenco guitar

inspired riffs, funky bopping drum lines and a plethora of obscure instruments creating a very unique and funky sound. Expect to be intrigued and moved by the power of this trio.

WHAT WE LIKE: The opening track Someday is a perfect introduction for new comers to City of The Sun. The mellow soundscape slowly builds to one of their signature drops giving you a taste of things to come. La Luz will have you grooving to it's surf rock vibe. The slower pace, cinematic vibe of Dreams leaves you daydreaming of a trip to a far away deserted island. Spaghetti makes you want tap your feet and hand drum on your desk. The album closes out with Everything Everywhere Matters to Everything, leaving you with the desire to jump in a car and go for a long cruise to a destination unknown. STANDOUT TRACKS: Barcelona, Spaghetti, For Ian, Alive. PERFECT FOR: Long walks on the beach, long car drives, outdoor adventures or just some relaxing vibes for cooking dinner to.

LISTEN IN IF YOU LIKE: Cinematic Orchestra, Godspeed

You! Black Emperor.
