Up for something a little different this Saturday? How about getting all adventurous and going on a scavenger hunt? Byron Quest is happening this Saturday and we’re not totally sure what it will involve but we’re thinking cryptic codes, maybe some tasks and best of all… hunting for treasure. You can take part in teams of up to six people (all ages) and registration is just $5 per team. Grab a form from Byron Youth Service – 1 Gilmore Crescent or Future Dreamers at 24 Marvell St or online www.byronquest.com. If you’re more in the mood for some countryside fun, the Mullumbimby Show will be in full swing on Saturday and Sunday. All your favourites will be there including baby miniature animals, rides, scone baking competitions and a mega fireworks display at night. Over at the Coorabell Hall on Saturday night there’s going to be a special gig called ’Noche del Fuego’ featuring Black Rabbit George which is the new incarnation for Tijuana Cartel’s guitarist/singer Paul George. The other drawcard is bohemian rocker Felicity Lawless who will be doing her thing with her gypsy, world, rock sounds. There will be fire dancing and Tish Faco are putting on the eats so they will be totally delicious. Tickets are $25 and it kicks off at 7pm. Enjoy! Photography Credit: Carly Brown

Dear Keenwa is Byron Bay’s answer to Miss Manners. Have a burning question? Go on, ask Keenwa anything… byronbazaar.com/dearkeenwa
Dear Keenwa,
Is it still necessary to send a handwritten thank you note for a gift? I think yes but not many people seem to agree with me these days. How formal does my gratitude need to be? - Signed, Sealed, Delivered
Fun, Loving, reliable Pet help. If your going away and or just need someone to feed, give meds or walk your furry friends. I’m your girl. Call 043790471. For Sale 2007 Ford Fiesta Black 4dr. manual. 108 kms. Regd, CTP until Aug 2017. Excellent condition $5200. Phone 0477567363 Bruce.
Dear Signed, Sealed, Delivered,
Like are you getting Stevie Wonder to hand deliver these notes or what? How the heck are you keeping up with your Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Tinder accounts whilst you’re running around stationary shops and post offices? As Confucius said, “a gentleman should be quick in action but not talk a lot.” Gratitude is a hashtag, give it freely. And just make sure you take pictures of you in the act and tag the recipients, not giving them a heads up in front of the entire world would be just plain rude.
Dear Keenwa,

Every time I go for breakfast with one particular friend she never foots the bill! I’m so down with shouting her breakfast once in a while but I’m not her mum, why does she expect me to pay her way? How can I bring this up so I don’t have to keep digging deep into my pockets. - Generous Gal
Dear Generous Gal,
There’s no need to bring it up if you stick to these guidelines. Rule number one in the Byron shire: don’t eat out with folk from Mullumbimby. Rule number two: only frequent cafes where mates work. Rule number three: complain to the waiter that your mate’s meal had meat in it, or that you’re allergic to the washing powder used on the napkin. Rule four: avoid leaving the house until you have at least 10,000 Instagram followers so the cafe pays you to bore us with all those food shots.

Got something to say? - Well here's your chance ... Sunrise Beach Lover, Anonymous _____________________________________
It would be appropriate for Elements to include a walking track along side the railway line from Sunrise to Byron, as a way of giving something back to the actual residents of Sunrise Beach as opposed to the lovely nature strips they have given council. Currently dog walkers have no access to the beach closest to them, which is a great shame in itself as the beach in front of the golf course could be well utilised for this. Instead dog walkers need to walk all the way around to access Belongil Dog Beach, this is a 3km round trip walk and either too far or too time consuming for most residents meaning they drive there. A walking track alongside the railway line would give direct access and make this a much shorter distance. This would also give the community some relief from added car pollution and ease some of the carbon emissions created by the Elements diesel train, until the promised Elements light rail is introduced.

On Thursday Mars moves into innovative and quirky Aquarius. For the next 5 weeks this provides a window of opportunity to progress untraditional and experimental projects or any humanitarian missions. The emotional tide is high while the Moon is in Pisces, therefore Thursday and Friday are ideal for a healing session and working on deep, personal issues, or on a creative project that serves you in a therapeutic way. On Saturday, as well as on Sunday morning, it might prove difficult to relate to others from a compassionate point of view. The Moon aligns with Uranus in Aries, suggesting that many people experience a ‘short fuse’. Communication breakdown is likely, and hasty, regrettable decisions might be made. Venus moves into earthy and more cautious Capricorn which might help you to slow down, but just a few hours later Mercury moves into Sagittarius which can be quite boisterous. The Full Moon time in Taurus on Monday/Tuesday is perfect for connecting with nature and enjoying or even indulging in your senses and sensuality. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.
a g
Aries The 2 of Cups speaks of love in action, balancing giving and receiving, and being sensitive to your partner’s as well as your needs. Thursday and Friday could be marvellous days for a little trip, or a romantic get-together or both.
Libra The 8 of Swords represents difficulties in relating that arise through old, bad habits. You might have been bending over backwards to accommodate others and now you are building up resentment, confusion and inner turmoil. This is not a good time to draw conclusions or make decisions; rest your busy mind and recuperate...
b
h
Scorpio The Ace of Wands represents the gift of fire and inspiration. It urges you to act on impulse and take a chance when you see the opportunity for something new and exciting. This is a time full of energy, vitality and spontaneity and it is necessary to believe in and act on your hunches; just make sure you don’t burn out!
i
Sagittarius This week might be challenging and frustrating for the Archer. The Hanged Man drawn asks you to give up frantic activity and suspend all action in order to pause and reflect on the deeper meaning and lessons of your current situation. As you let go of struggle a new direction will reveal itself...
Taurus Something might upset your equilibrium this week and it could require time and mental focus to remain optimistic or find the silver lining in an unwanted situation. The 9 of Swords indicates that you worry far too much or that doubt, remorse or regret is messing with your mind.
Gemini The Magician symbolises the magic and magnetic force that makes reality out of possibility. This week he gifts you with dynamic will-power and success that is achieved in a playful, almost effortless way. Communication, creativity and networking are favoured.
j
c
d
Cancer You are asked to deeply probe into your motivations and examine if your goals are really yours or whether you are following other people’s ideas and inspirations. The Prince of Swords stands for the ability to detach from old beliefs, rules and perspectives that don’t work anymore.
Capricorn The 2 of Swords makes peace of mind top priority this week, yet it might be difficult to achieve it if you’re trying to avoid unpleasantness, and are unwilling to rock the boat first. Ponder viable alternatives to your current point of view before you make final decisions.
k
e
l
f
Leo The 8 of Disks asks you to be meticulous in your approach to any work challenge and to diligently take care of details. It pays off if you slow down a little this week and channel your inspiration into a clear, step-by-step plan to follow; this way you avoid pitfalls later. Virgo The Knight of Cups is often called the ‘Prince in Shining Armour’; his gifts are sensitivity and intuition. Make sure that you don’t miss what he is offering to you this week; accept a gift or an invitation, say ‘Yes!’ to life. Try not to get drowned by daily chores and don’t sweat the small stuff!
Aquarius The Queen of Disks symbolises experienced, wise and mature feminine energy. This week it is important to stay grounded and truly appreciate how far you have come, before you get carried away with new plans and projects. Diligence and perseverance might pay off very soon.
Pisces The Moon Tarot card casts elusive light and shadow on everything you encounter this week. It might be difficult to discern or define reality in ways that you are used to and you could become quite confused, especially on Thursday or Friday. Nevertheless your creative juices are flowing and could be channelled into work and art.

BYRON BAZAAR
THIS WEEK’S MANTRA / VALIDATION IS FOR PARKING, NOT PEOPLE When we seek validation outside of ourselves we enslave ourselves to the approval of others. We chain ourselves to a vicious cycle of never-enough and thereby repeatedly set ourselves up for disappointment. Waiting and hoping for someone’s approval, obsessing over whether people will like your work, your style, your choices...is stagnating, stifling and soul killing. Not to mention unfulfilling. The truth is, we will never experience fulfillment through validation. Lasting fulfillment is an inside job. Doing your work your way, living your life, your way - that fills you up from the inside out. So pivot your attention from outer to inner. Do it for the love of doing it. Follow the feels. Trust yourself. Keep going.

>> A quick chat with a Byron local (or a local at heart)>> MARK HARLOW Business Name: HENDRIX & Harlow Job Title: The Maker Instagram: @hendrixthemaker @hendrixandharlow Website: hendrixandharlow.com.au If you weren’t a Furniture Maker you’d be … I’d be hosting my own outdoor adventure, fishing and surfing show. I could be the Aussie love child of Bear Grylls and the late great Steve Irwin. It’d be awesome man! The best advice you ever received? It came from my wife Myee – “If you want something, you have to REALLY want it in order to succeed.” That was a big light bulb moment for me. Why did you start Hendrix and Harlow? I’ve always been creative. In the past I’ve mostly worked on the drier side of creativity, in engineering. I dabbled in fashion a few years back with my own shirt brand but realized that I thrive on using my hands and mind to make things. Both Myee and I live to create; it’s who we are. HENDRIX & Harlow was born from that, I’m the Hendrix and she’s the Harlow, kinda like Yin and Yang. The vice you’ll never give up? Beer, definitely beer! What did you want to be when you grew up? Scuffy the Tugboat – his life was one hell of an adventure! My single best piece of advice for anyone in business is Never give up on your dream and trust your instinct, even if it doesn’t make sense at the time. What’s your favourite movie? Shawshank Redemption. You’re trapped on a deserted island, what three things would you bring? 1. Canoe. 2. Fishing rod. 3. Spear gun. What’s your biggest pet peeve? People not honoring their word. What’s your favourite vacation spot? Camping next to a river in the middle of nowhere. How do you find inspiration? It’s comes from within. My mind never stops.
