No doubt you’ve heard that roots reggae favourites Katchafire are gracing us with their presence at the Byron Bay Brewery on Thursday 13th. That’s followed by Violent Soho at The Northern on the 15th and then a special free all-ages gig at The Lennox Hotel featuring Australian hip hop artist Illy on Sunday 16th. Doors open at 2pm and to enter, Illy fans need to sign up here first - bit.ly/ IllyLennox. Another option for mingling is The Breakfast Club Diaries book launch on Friday 14th from 5 to 7pm at the Byron Regional Sport and Cultural Complex. There will be complimentary wine and beer plus door prizes. All proceeds from the project go to the Fred Hollows Foundation. Also in the feel-good vein is the FedRocks fundraiser on Saturday 15th. Live music, food and bar, all to help maintain Federal’s community hall. If none of this rings your bell then you can always pay homage to the Big Prawn at The Ballina Prawn Festival. Unfortunately we spent the better part of Friday there with our child, but the staff made it as positive an experience as possible! We were seen right away and treated with kindness, compassion and patience throughout our 8 hour visit. The doctor on duty was attentive but also a bit of a comedian, which lightened the mood for everyone in the ER. The staff were all so professional and warm, not only to us, but to every person that came through their doors, regardless of who they were, where they were from or what their condition was. I am a regular visitor to Byron and over the weekend i could not believe the amount of people (whether or not they are daydreaming or just being plain rude!!) walking on the ROAD and not using pedestrian crossings. I get it, Byron Bay one heck of a beautiful town and there is lots to see but PLEASE look where you are going‌its only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt!
