This amazing, action packed festival is chockers with workshops, ceremonies, concerts and seminars to enrich your mind and nourish your soul. Highlights we’d like to check out include ‘Becoming Fiercely Authentic’ on Saturday, the Saturday night concert ‘Awakening Ancestral Seeds’ and blindfolded yoga on Sunday at 1pm. In Byron for the school holidays, circus troupe Head First Acrobats are in town and putting on family friendly shows at 5pm. The show is called ‘Arr We There Yet?!’ and it goes for 45 minutes. Tickets for a family of 4 will set you back $60. Feel like it’s time to learn Spanish, start to play golf or learn acoustic guitar? There’s no time like the present and Byron Community College are taking enrolments for the coming months. Hop onto their website to find out more. Something needs to be done about the makeshift caravan park that sets up everyday in the carpark next to the Rails pub. Whose responsibility is it to manage the multitude of vans, wagons & caravans that turn this dusty patch into a campground? Council? Rail Corp? Why do we have signs at the entrances to town warning that street camping is illegal if there is a huge site right in the middle of town that permits overnight camping without consequence? Council may tout their “tough stance on illegal street camping” on their website, but they turn a blind-eye to the illegal camping that happens on a nightly basis in the Rails carpark. Not only are these illegal campers an eye-sore making breakfast out of the back of their van, brushing their teeth with a bottle of water and shufﬂing to the shadows when nature calls, but they also occupy, ALL DAY, the limited number of free parking spaces in town that should rightly be available to locals, workers and customers of the surrounding retailers.

I know many of us benefit from the high wages in our country but I think there’s a real downside when it comes to service! I just returned home from a trip to Hawaii and was blown away by the service we received there. Speed, efficiency, and (shock horror!) a smile! The Yanks might be crazy (Trump!?!? SRSLY?) but they’ve got the service thing nailed. And I think it’s mostly because they are incentivised with the tipping system. Maybe we should consider bringing tipping to Australia- make people hustle a little bit for their living, rather than delivering slow subpar service with an attitude. I for one would be chuffed to see the service standard in our country elevated.
