Good Samaritans Still Exist!!!! Dog Lover __________________________________________ I would like to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the ladies at Sunrise IGA and another lady at the time who helped me rescue 4 puppies from a cardboard box, in a stinking hot car with no ventilation (OR WATER!) in the supermarket carpark. If it hadn’t been for everybody’s quick actions to help and get these guys to water, I am 100% sure that those little fellas would not have made it 5 mins longer (2 of the puppies couldn’t even stand or lick up the water due to dehydration). I cannot believe that this person had left these puppies, who were no more than 8 weeks old, in a very hot car and showed absolutely no empathy towards the situation when confronted. It really is a reminder to everyone to make sure that if your dogs are in the car, to provide them with adequate ventilation and water coming into summer. Festival Capitol Of Australia Anonymous __________________________________________ I have to admit we are very lucky to get the quality of festivals and the acts they bring to this beautiful corner of the world. But I had a thought, all of these festivals are moving further from town and with the on site camping in massive numbers are these people really experiencing Byron Bay? We already have some great examples of festivals held right in town; The Surf fest, Writers fest, Latin and film festival are all excellent family friendly events that show off the true spirit of this town. We need more like these and a few suggestions would be a Buskers or Jazz festival and let these events take over our green spaces and cafes and bring our town alive with entertainment for all ages. I say good on council for Soul Street but lets keep the ball rolling because we have more to give.
Foreign Policy English Lad __________________________________________ How tough is it to find a (decent) job in this town? Like many other foreigners, I’ve arrived in Byron with enough cash to keep me a float for a while, with the idea that I’d be able to find a job within the first few weeks…but nothing! Nada!!! Despite having 3 years experience working in bars/restaurants in my native England, handing out CVs on an almost daily basis and managing to get a couple of interviews, I’m still waiting for someone to give me an opportunity to show how awesome I am! Unless you want to live in a hostel & clean toilets everyday in order to get cheaper accommodation, it doesn’t seem like businesses are willing to hire someone that can only stick around for a few months but could actually be an asset to their company. I’ve talked to many other travellers and hear lots of similar stories, so I am obviously not the only one?!?
