Around Town This Week

No plans tonight? Dust off your party shirt and head down to the Byron Bay Surf Club for the Party Shirt Party, a joint fundraiser for flood relief and Bay FM. Kicking off at 4pm, the event will see tunes provided by the likes of Kyle Lionheart, Squeak Lemaire and more, with bevvies by Stone & Wood and The Bucha of Byron. An Ed Sinnot surfboard is also up for grabs on the night, which wraps at 8pm. Bring a spare party shirt to donate for entry, or it’s a tenner to join the fun. In the lead up to Mother’s Day Future Dreamers are hosting a mothers and daughters event entitled ‘M.A.D. Times’ from next Wednesday 3rd May. Designed for girls in years 8 and 9 the 6-week program is devoted to exploring relationships between mum and daughter and creating a dialogue about some of the trickier issues of becoming a woman. It’ll be run by inspiring women with valuable life experience as well as incredible professional backgrounds. Book tickets via the Future Dreamers website. Saturday spells a festival of another kind, with 20 food trucks set to roll into the Byron Bay Brewery car park for the Byron Bay Street Food Party. The food will be on (and the craft beer flowing) from 4pm, with live music courtesy of Bluesfest Busking Comp winner Tay Oskee and Sydney-based folk muso Harvey. Enjoy!

2 Cents Worth Got Something To Say?
A REMEMBRANCE, Anonymous Whilst we are on the topic of 'Proudly Local', lets remember what we have and what makes us proud: the beautiful but fragile environment. This week is a celebration/ reflection of the ANZACS and the ANZAC spirit. ANZAC Day is not a celebration of war it is remembering ordinary people who made the ultimate sacrifice for us. These ordinary people gave so others would have freedom. With freedom comes responsibility, we have a responsibility to one another, to respect each other.

Take some time to reflect on all we have and how we can learn to share the wealth we possess with others. It's about mateship, yes friendship, about caring and sharing. Smile, say hello, help someone, plant a tree, phone a friend, donate, give, protest, the list of good deeds that make a difference, make us proud is limited only by your imagination. Take stock of reality, without the magnificent natural environment we are custodians of, we have nothing to celebrate, nowhere to be. Keep the ANZAC legend alive.
Congrats Anonymous, your submission has won you and a friend coffee and a sweet treat! Email at hello@byronbazaar.com to claim your prize. What are your thoughts on “PROUD LOCAL? Keep the convo going! Submit your 2 Cents Worth at byronbazaar.com/2cents

Dear Keenwa, My bestie is getting hitched soon and I'm in charge of the hens party, I'm thinking a stripper fa sure. Am I tripping or do they still exist? Can you find fair trade, vegan ones in The Shire? - Hen Wench Dear Hen Wench, If by stripper you mean ice-addicted, dry humping grumpy old man, then yes. I recently attended a hens hoping for some good, clean entertaining fun, but there was not a smiling vegan muscle in sight. It took about five cosmic minutes too long for him to read the bride's body language (he somehow missed the screams) before he grabbed his boom box and declared it was the worst job he has ever been booked for and ran off down the stairs, leaving whiplash and PTSD in his wake. End of partay. New hens rules. Ask the damn bridey first. Nothing kills a party quicker than watching a man's foundation run down his face with his tears. Dear Keenwa, I recently walked past one of my insta followers on the way to the surf – yes like in non-virtually, I got excited and threw him a hey there! By the time I got home he had unfollowed me. Coincidence? Or did I commit a faux pas? - Clingy or Cold? Dear Clingy or Cold, Now hold up there babes, that sounds a little intense. Dunbar's number theory says that as humans we can maintain an average of about 150 friends at any given time, either online or in the flesh, of which 4.1 are actually real life dependable in a crisis kinda peeps, and 13.6 are able to express sympathy towards us during an emotional crisis. Now that leaves a lot of hangers in the promiscuous friending department. Even though social media provides significant communication opportunities, time is a constraint that limits face-to-face interactions, and you may just have caught him off-guard, perhaps he had already engaged meaningfully with 13 people that day? Have a question for KEENWA? Ask her anything... byronbazaar.com/dearkeenwa

THIS WEEK’S MANTRA - STATUS UPDATE: IN FLOW. Grasping, worrying, anxiety, fear and over analysing are all ways we try to "be in control." Fooling ourselves that worry is a failsafe insurance policy. That fear protects us in perpetuity. That if we loosen our grip we'll never become, achieve or receive. In reality, when we are "being in control" we aren't BEing at all. We aren't in conversation with our intuition. We aren't in relationship with the universe. We are cordoning ourselves off as finite rather than recognising ourselves as part of the infinite. In trying to control, we are diverting our attention away from presence. We are focused on the patterns of the past and a fear of the future. We are expending precious energy focusing on what we don't want, rather than channeling our energy to what we do want. We are diverting resources away from our desired outcomes. We are standing in the way, creating a blockade to the free flow of forward momentum in our lives. When we try to control, we become blinded, out of step with our highest self and out of alignment with our highest good. We can't tell our intuitions from our fears. We let our fears paralyse us, clinging to them long after they stop serving us. Being in a controlling state is exhausting and unsustainable. Ya feel me? So, this is a reminder. You have options. Swap "in control" to "in flow." Step outside the circle of worry. Take a breath into your belly. Loosen your grip. Feel the freedom in that? It's safe to trust yourself. It's safe to trust this life. Surrender yourself to the process and watch how LIFE DELIVERS YOU. Say it with me now: in flow...

Mercury and Saturn (both retrograde) form a practical, analytical, yet inspiring fire trine this week. There is great enthusiasm to review plans and to reassess commitments to people and projects. It is not a good idea to make hasty decisions or to burn bridges that you might have to rebuild when both planets are in forward motion again. Venus is retracing her steps in Aries and might display impatience or throw a tantrum. Unexpected circumstances can lead to delays in travel arrangements, and the need to stay flexible with your plans is exceptionally strong while Mercury teams up with Uranus. Because Mercury is extremely slow, then stationary and turning direct again next Thursday, this aspect stays with us for another two weeks before it loosens its grip. You might be able to use this aspect to promote your new and exciting ideas or to showcase some unusual talent or art project. You may have to be patient about results however, which might not show up before November when Saturn revisits this degree in forward motion. Networking is favoured with this influence as well. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.
g
a
h
b
i
c
Aries The Mercury/Saturn theme of the next two weeks might affect you strongly, and the Queen of Cups suggests daily meditation and calling in the light in order to transform your frustrated or impatient emotions into energy that can be used constructively. Taurus The Bull’s strengths are perseverance and stamina, his weakness is inflexibility. The 9 of Wands might assist you in mobilising hidden reserves of patience and you could be a shining example of how to deal with this week’s planetary mix. This is especially true if it’s your birthday week. Gemini The Empress represents the love and wisdom of the Earth Mother who is able to create harmony with what is, rather than fretting about what should be. With your flexible approach to new situations you might be able to assist and guide other people to find more inner equilibrium; or you may teach them how to trust their inner knowing.
j
Cancer No matter how much you care or how much
attachment you feel to a person or a project, when the 8 of Cups appears, you have to reconsider where you invest your energy. You might feel weary of walking down the same road again and again, ending up emotionally exhausted and depleted. Consider new options that nourish not only others but yourself too.
k
Leo This week the Ace of Swords grants you the ability
to cut through confusion, hesitation and doubt without difficulty. Equipped with mental clarity, insight and foresight you may be able to implement original ideas or come up with a marvellous invention that brightens yours and other people’s lives.
l
Virgo The Queen of Swords is all about authenticity! Don’t worry about what other people might be thinking about you or if they are judging you. You could decide to enjoy the sense of freedom that comes when you are simply yourself, no matter what... Beyond socially acceptable masks, roles and defences you find inner clarity and truth.
Libra The 3 of Cups promises an enjoyable, sociable and maybe even abundantly fulfilling week. Your great communication skills bridge any trouble and dissolve any misunderstanding. This may be the perfect time to clear the air with one of your nearest and dearest in the most loving way and to your mutual benefit. Scorpio The 7 of Wands suggests that it is time to show your backbone, stand up for what you believe in and assert yourself. No matter how hard you try, it might not be possible to avoid a confrontation this week. If you summon the courage to stay true to your vision and values at least you can be at peace with yourself. Sagittarius When the Death Tarot card appears it is time let go of something you have been holding onto for too long; may it be a habit, a project or a person. Deep inside you know that if you resist the necessary changes, surrender and transformation, it will only prolong the pain.
d
Capricorn The 5 of Disks symbolises the ‘Worry Wart’. Especially if you are going through a difficult time it is important to take good care of yourself. The more you go into ‘what if’ scenarios, you create excessive stress which is counter-productive. One way to eliminate worry is to stay in the present and find things you can feel grateful for.
e
Aquarius You might be craving peace of mind and heart more than anything else this week. The 2 of Swords suggests that the best way to achieve it is to postpone decision making, unless you are absolutely sure that you are on the right track. Over time a new development or perspective will dissolve an old dilemma.
f
Pisces The Fishes like to swim in the current of least resistance but the 8 of Swords indicates that this might get you in trouble this week. You may need to establish clear boundaries with certain people, or they might be able to manipulate you and take advantage of you. As a result you’ll turn against yourself...

3 egg organic omelette by Terase Davidson
Terase is a passionate local food advocate and also makes the most amazing salted caramel sauce! This is one of Terase's most popular dishes that she sells at the Byron Farmers Market 'Chef's Tent’, with ingredients sourced from the stallholders. "It's super simple and is a great example of how using exceptional local produce with minimal preparation and just a few ingredients can deliver big flavour rewards. I strongly believe the real flavour starts in the paddock with the farmer” says Terase.
Ingredients: Method: • 3 x organic eggs • 100g tatsoi • 1/2 tsp sesame seeds, toasted • 1 long red chilli de-seeded and finely sliced • 8 mint leaves • 8 coriander leaves • 4 Vietnamese mint leaves • 1/2 tsp sesame oil • 1 tsp macadamia nut oil • sea salt and white pepper • 1 lime
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9.
Heat a non-stick fry pan on a high heat Crack three eggs into a medium size bowl, add some freshly ground white pepper and whisk vigorously with a fork until fluffy Once the fry pan is hot, add your macadamia nut oil Quickly whisk your again eggs, add the eggs to the fry pan, using a silicon spatula gently stir the eggs for 5 seconds, then swirl the pan so the egg mixture is evenly distributed across the pan, season lightly with salt Allow to cook for 1 minute, then add the tatsoi to just one half of the omelette pan Allow to cook for another 2-3 mins, then carefully using a egg spatula fold the side of the omelette without the tatsoi over the top half with Carefully slide the omelette onto your serving plate Gently mix your herbs and chilli in a small bowl with the sesame oil and juice of 1/2 a lime. Place the herb salad on top of your omelette and garnish with the remaining 1/2 lime and toasted sesame seeds Grab your knife and fork and enjoy!

There will be a variety of services available to members such as brand strategy, design and production advice along with access to an incredible network of international influencers, creatives, mentors, investors and philanthropists. Plus, it’s a super awesome office where everything is included, and you get to work alongside other people doing great things. What’s the biggest trend you have noticed coming out of sustainable practices? I think that the best thing about sustainability is that it's not a trend, it goes deeper than that, it’s a philosophy that seems to be spreading through every facet of our lives. Where do you get your inspiration? My beautiful partner, Sophie. What do you love most about living in Byron Bay? Adventures, surfing, farmers’ markets and the awesome people that live here. We all still need a good work/life balance, what do you do to chill out? Surf and eat.
@SustainableValley is having a launch party on Friday the 28th of April 6pm at 12/7 Grevillea St, Byron Bay. Be sure to head down for some live music, drinks and canapes.
