Hurrah for the long weekend! Now what’s the best way to spend it? If you’re super lucky you’ve already got tickets to see The Black Seeds on Saturday at the Great Northern. If you don’t and you’re keen to see some top-notch music on Saturday night, Harry Manx is playing at the Mullum Civic Hall. This legend has got his own genre of music he calls Mysticissippi Blues which blends blues, country, folk and Indian classical music. Wowser! Tickets are $46. If you want to make a big one out of Sunday just ‘cos you can with the public holiday, you have a fair few options around the traps. Our two picks would be Sunday Safari at the Bangalow A&I Hall from 2pm or Nudge Nudge Wink Wink at the Billinudgel Hotel from 2pm. The latter is a charity gig for Liberation Larder and the line up of DJs will be accompanied by food carts and a fire show. If you’re stuck for school holiday activity ideas, head to the Australian Seabird Rescue in Ballina on Tuesday. From 10 to 11am they will be doing a tour where you can learn about the seabirds and sea turtle rescue operation ($5 per person). Have fun! Photography Credit: Bethany Ryles

Dear Keenwa,
I’m desperate to run my own cacao ceremonies but I’m a bit confused. I have Australian/Irish/English heritage, no Mayan. What do I need to do to make them ‘Sacred Mayan” ceremonies? Please help. - Cacao Confused
Dear Cacao Confused,
Look it is super complicated, but as a real deal Quechua woman (I once had a dream about Machu Picchu) named after the holy grain from the mother land of Peru, cultural appropriation is my speciality. You really can’t be facilitating ceremony around here unless you do any of the following sacred activities regularly: - Wear a bindi most days, even in the shower - Burn incense and sage and not just in the toilet - Wear maxi dresses - Enjoy raw food
Dear Keenwa,
When friends come to visit (which is often) they always assume that since they’re on holiday, I’m on holiday too. How do I politely tell them that I need to get shizz done while they’re visiting? - Reluctant Hostess
Dear Reluctant Hostess,
Luckily for you, your reproductive system is taking care of that very problem as we speak. If you’ve just moved to the Shire, know that before you can even pronounce Mullumbimby, you’ll be knocked up, brewing a non-vaccinated, home-birthed mini you, even if it appears that there are no suitable rad dad candidates on the horizon. There’s nothing like a pre-dawn screaming baby to bring on a Beachy hangover for your beloved visitors. On arrival, just get them to choose their sleeping quarters - the day bed on the veranda with the mozzies or the baby’s walk-in robe. Make sure you’re breastfeeding when you ask them. Adios amigos.
Have a question for KEENWA? Ask her anything... byronbazaar.com/dearkeenwa

Got something to say? - Well here's your chance ... Home Of Magic, Anonymous _____________________________________
Well here we are again... A family seeking a new home in Byron Bay... 3 children in local schools and a new(ish) business in town and the wonderful task added to an already overloaded schedule to find a new home not to mention pack up and moving while all children keep some kind of balance and harmony In The last term of the year.... Oh Byron Bay we love you but you drive us so close to the edge it’s like walking a fine line of sanity... Pushed to wonder if it’s all worth it like the $650 a week unit crammed in with 9 other units being the best thing on offer atm. Hmm a family of 6 in a sardine box. Perhaps it’s time to consider the old hippy adventure of taking refuge in the hinterland and buying a tepee or a bus. Simplification from a town gone mad on holiday rental excess and - a mass percentage of empty homes awaiting lucky holidaymakers who come bask in the glories of this good old coast town with a hefty price tag... Hoping for a miracle but then again this is the home of magic!

Thursday offers us a great opportunity to clear up misunderstandings or misconceptions that might have been festering in a relationship for a while. Strong emotions might come up, but if they are met with an open heart and mind, great new insights and transformation can arise. The New Moon in Libra on Saturday is inspiring and uplifting. The long weekend (Monday is a public holiday) is marvellous for a romantic get-together, for working on an art project, or for beautifying your home environment. Remember that daylight saving begins Saturday night and turn your clock one hour forward on Sunday morning. Tuesday is the perfect day to concentrate on financial planning and wealth-building. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.
g
Aries A great week lies ahead for the Ram; the 6 of Disks promises inner satisfaction and outer success. You are able to stand tall and act with authority combined with integrity. Your resourcefulness attracts other people and it is a marvellous time to pass on your knowledge and experience as a mentor or teacher in some way.
h
Taurus The Moon Tarot card shines its illusive light into all emotionally charged situations this week. This can be really confusing or inspiring, and maybe it’s both! There could also be problems with personal boundaries; watch out for moments when, out of empathy, you give far too much and feel depleted, burdened or resentful afterwards.
i
Gemini This week mental over-activity can lead to exhaustion and seeing yourself in an extremely negative light. The 9 of Swords depicts one of the main dangers for the busy Gemini mind. Your inner judge must be identified as the bully he is, which is a matter of being aware. Combine this with the practice of loving kindness and you can take over his power.
j
Cancer The 2 of Disks symbolises change which, even when it is wanted and anticipated, is always a bit traumatic for the Crab when it finally arrives. If you feel a bit frazzled, contemplate how these changes are actually contributing to more stability and security in the long run.
k
Leo The 7 of Swords represents an inner struggle; the mind and heart are not aligned and you might feel stuck in separation or self-sabotage. If you find there are lots of ‘yes, but...’ or ‘if only...’ in your thoughts or conversations it is time to overcome limiting patterns, before good things can fall into place for you.
l
Virgo The 8 of Wands appears for the second week! Obviously the projects you are working on have a long-term perspective and require a concentrated effort as well as patience. Don’t be disheartened if you don’t see immediate results, and trust that through applying yourself diligently success will have to follow.
a
Libra The 3 of Wands highlights the power of clear intentions, setting priorities and absolute commitment before you embark on a new project or direction. Once a decision is grounded in that way, all doubt and indecisiveness disappear and there is nothing that stops you getting ahead and creating what you truly want.
b
Scorpio The 7 of Wands symbolises the saying: ‘When it gets tough, the tough get going!’ You might have to assert yourself this week, hold out against pressure and stand up for your values and convictions. As you demonstrate your commitment and ‘backbone’, things will unfold and fall into place magically.
c
Sagittarius Issues of fairness and justice might be coming up this week. The Adjustment card represents a time of deep soul-searching and standing up for your ethical principles to determine right action. Take your time and find your inner balance before you make your next move and don’t allow inner pressure or confusion to coerce you into premature reaction.
d
Capricorn The Queen of Wands can teach you the way redhot passion can be transformed into compassion by taming the inner beast. This process makes you more self-assured, cheerful and optimistic. Ask yourself how you can share your new light and insights with your loved ones or express them through a creative outlet.
e
Aquarius The Magician promises an interesting week. Your great people and communication skills combined with awareness, concentration and excellent timing, can produce amazing results and open up new realities. As you weave your magic you utilise all your tools, skills and resources for maximum impact.
f
Pisces The 5 of Cups represents deep disappointment with yourself and/or others. You might be feeling fragile and vulnerable and most of the thoughts you are thinking might make you feel even more depressed. Remember that this will pass too. Don’t isolate yourself; reaching out to a good friend might be your best option right now.

THIS WEEK’S MANTRA/ BOUNDARIES ARE THE KEY TO FREEDOM
Hair Beauty Makeup 0401 915 341 1a/20 Brigantine Street, Byron Bay Arts & Industrial Estate, Free Parking www.indulgencehairmakeup.com
If you want more freedom (and by that we mean more bliss, more intimacy, more intuition, more reverence, more soul-singing, more headspace, more of the things that fill-up-your-cup) then draw up some boundaries. Discipline and commitment creates the conditions in which you can feel free. We’re not talking about diets or strict exercise regimes. We’re talking about making space in your life for the things that light you up. The things that make you better. The things that make you feel good. We’re saying pay attention to what feels good. And then actively create the conditions for those feelings to thrive. Yeah maybe it’s not all sexy-andpoetic-and-boho-gypsy-go-with-the-flow-beautiful to schedule in a daily meditation or lock in a date night or put 15 minutes of reading or a 30 minute block of creative time on the calendar. But if you genuinely want more of the good stuff, you must invite it in by making space for it and protecting the boundary around it. It comes down to intention. When you have a clear intention, and you draw up a plan to cultivate it, and you set in place boundaries to protect it, you make manifest that intention. If you say you want to write/dance/read/connect/create more because it makes you FEEL SOOOO GOOD but then you do nothing to invite it into your life on a daily basis. Guess what. No dice. Less of the good stuff. But when you choose to create and hold space in your life (even tiny slivers of space) for the things that give you wings, the rest comes easy. You remove the opportunity for hesitation or hijacking (by things that deem themselves to be more important) that result in never-gotaround-to-it. You make it happen. Maybe every day won’t be a revelation or an epiphany or some great romantic event, but by continually showing up, you invoke a rhythm of creation in your life that seeds more and more of what you want. Putting boundaries in place illuminates the choices we make. By committing to, say, reading something inspiring for 15 min/day or a 10 min morning meditation practice, we notice where we might have otherwise mindlessly reached for our phones and gotten busy scrolling through the ‘gram for 20 minutes (A.K.A a lost opportunity). Boundaries open our eyes to the things we say yes to when we really don’t mean it. The default yes. The accidental yes. The habits, routines and relationships that don’t lift you up. So…Swap. Them. Out. Pick something that you want more of. Carve out space, lay out a boundary. Let it be a revolution of small proportions. Start with something manageable. 10 minutes. 25 minutes. 5 minutes. Whatever. Just make it non-negotiable. Circle the perimeter like a hawk. Protect what is precious. Let it grow. Boundaries are the key to freedom.

>> A quick chat with a Byron local (or a local at heart)>> KING BUNNY Business Name: Bunny Racket Job Title: The King! Instagram: @bunnyracket Website bunnyracket.com
How did Bunny Racket start? Through a fierce love of rock ‘n’ roll and a desire to share that love with humans of all sizes!
Why a Bunny? A tip of the hat to Lemmy from Motorhead. If Lemmy was a muppet, you can guarantee he would have been a rock ‘n’ roll rabbit!
If you weren’t a ___Rabbit___ you’d be… A Goose!
Who is on the guest list for your dream dinner party? Glenn Danzig, Elvis Presley and the Snuffleupagus.
Where did the inspiration for Bunny Racket come from? I have a lot of kids in my life that I really wanted to rock out with. Spending time with kids is great when everybody is having a good time!
If I had one super power, it would be…. The ability to function on no sleep.
How did The Vines, Wolfmother and Skunkhour become involved with Bunny Racket? Bangalow is a small town full of creative and talented people. I’m lucky enough to be friends with some of them!
What was the biggest highlight from playing at Little Splendour? Little Splendour is like the calm within the storm. Some would say the eye of the storm. On that particular weekend Little Splendour was the centre of the universe and Bunny Racket was centre stage.
Have you always loved Rock ‘n’ Roll? I have always loved rock ‘n’ roll. And I always will!
What is the best part of being involved with Bunny Racket? Having an audience of kids and making them happy. Bringing them into the fold. Rock ‘n’ roll belongs to everyone of all ages.
