If you’re in the mood for a party (or two) this weekend then you’re in luck. On Saturday, Coco Republic in Belongil (33 Childe St) is kicking things off from 2pm. It’s a Party Shirt Fundraiser for Mental Health and local legends Nick Cunningham, Kyle Lionhart and Jesse Pumphrey are going to be sharing their awesome sounds. Bring your dancing shoes, your dog or your grandma, this party is all ages and all are welcome. Then on Sunday it’s time for Nudge Nudge Wink Wink at the Billinudgel Hotel. This is such a special monthly event because 100% of profits raised go to local charities and it’s free entry. This Sunday Australia’s own international super star DJ/ Producer Katalyst is going to be headlining, supported by Captain Kaine, Lord Sut and Mr Nice. It’s a family friendly event with kids activities and the whole she-bang goes from 2 til 9:30pm. On Monday night it’s time for FedTalks at Federal Hall from 7pm. The topic this time is the future of education – how the system might be re-imagined and re-formed to better prepare students for the future. What’s happened to the Byron Bay us locals and visitors have always loved. Its hard for the locals and their children to find work, competing against the influx of backpackers seeking work. Times have changed, before you would go into a shop and see a friendly local face or two. Now many businesses don’t employ locals at all, just a rolling staff of transient backpackers. There are the few successful Byron Bay businesses that you will see only local faces, and I congratulate them in supporting the younger generation born and bred here. If we can see our own faults then we will be more tolerant of the faults of others. Fault finding is an excellent virtue when it is directed towards one self and not towards others. Think for a minute and count how many faults you have and then think of the faults of some other person and count them. I bet it was much faster to count the faults of the other person!! I offer my condolences to anyone who thinks they have no faults as they probably have no friends as well. Sorry if I offended any positive thinkers out there - I think positive thinking is great if it is directed towards seeing the good qualities of others and overlooking their faults. THIS WEEK’S MANTRA / FORGIVE AND FLY FREE Ever been caught in between “Justice” and “Forgiveness”? That space where you’re wedged in between staying resentful/ frustrated/angry (because the situation demands Justice and whatever the person did is Just Not Right and Something Must Be Done About It!) and on the other side....forgiving them and Letting It Go? It’s a perplexing place to be. Letting it go can feel like you’re letting the so-called “perp” get away with something unjust. Do you let it go? ‘Cause that would feel good. To just not carry it around. To move on. Or should you put up a fight? Put your foot down, draw a line in the sand and drop knowledge on them. ‘Cause that can feel good, too. Here’s what I’ve found to be true: 1. An inability to forgive others is reflective of an inability to forgive yourself. 2. A lack of forgiveness punishes only one person. Yourself. 3. You cannot live in a heart-centred space some-of-the-time. You cannot give your forgiveness and compassion selectively. You don’t get to decide who deserves your compassion and who doesn’t. Don’t get it twisted: you can choose not to engage in relationship with certain people. You can choose not to be like them. Or even not like them. But you can’t withhold your loving-kindness. When you can forgive yourself and others, when you can soften your sharp edges and unconditionally open your heart, you liberate yourself and fly free. You unhook your attention (and your wings) from the negative. You leave it behind and soar to wide open spaces. You fly toward love and away from suffering, judgment, anger and low vibrations. You fly with others who are operating on the same plane. Your high vibe tribe. Your duty is not to judge or to Set Things Right for another person or Dole Out Justice or hold a grudge because That Shit Just Wasn’t ON. Your duty is to set yourself free. To love freely is to live freely. Open your wings, uncage your heart. Love freely, live freely.

The style of dance I do comes from Angola and its called Kizomba – its two people hugging whilst dancing. The dance philosophy of Kizomba mirrors the Byron spirit: open, connected living. Being able to share this dance with Byron locals has been year, in year out, a wonderful, fun experience.
The vice you’ll never give up? Drinking water. I hit the bottle every hour. Sometimes even unfiltered.
If I had one super power, it would be… To bring peace to the world (sounds like I should don a bikini and repeat that answer at the next Miss USA beauty pageant).
How do you find inspiration? By being alive, that’s inspiration enough.
What’s your morning routine? Hit the bottle (o2), smash some cereal and fruit, check the news, procrastinate for another hour, then start working.
The best advice you ever received? Enjoy everything you have, even the simplest things. You only live once.
Why did you start dancing? It’s sport meets creativity. Being healthy and artistic at the same time is so fun. And it’s really social.
Who is on the guest list for your dream dinner party? Donald Trump and the Dalai Lama. Let’s see if the wise man can talk some sense into that fool the Dalai Lama…Or is it the other way round…
The best part of teaching … Seeing people smile when they get a move they’ve struggled with.
What’s your favourite vacation spot? France. That country has so much variety and amazing food.
