Sorry, you just can’t stay home in your PJs this Saturday night. If you do, you’ll miss the PLTS Block Party that’s on in the Industrial Estate at 16 Tasman Way. This is such a top night that local band PLTS put together. They will be launching a single and Post Blue, Sex Drive, Mini Skirt and Jesse Pumphrey will be playing too. You’ll be able to grab all sorts of drinks and pizza, plus check out the pop up stalls. Definite winner! Grab your ticket for $10 from Afends or $15 at the door. Earlier in the day on Saturday the incredible documentary Earth-Q is screening at the Pighouse Flicks in Byron. It takes you on the journey of an Australian charity helping seven schools destroyed by the Nepal earthquake and proceeds from ticket sales will go towards rebuilding schools. It’s on at 1:15 and the Director Mark Pinoli will be presenting the film. Tuesday seems to be dance night…you can head to No Lights No Lycra in Byron ($5 at Byron Public School Hall) and Ecstatic Dance in Mullum ($20 at St Johns Hall). Ecstatic Dance is totally unguided dance where all genres of music work up to a peak and then back down again. Sounds fun, enjoy! Photography Credit: Carly Brown

Dear Keenwa is Byron Bay’s answer to Miss Manners. Have a burning question? Go on, ask Keenwa anything… byronbazaar.com/dearkeenwa

Dear Keenwa,

My beautiful friend just got engaged to a total knob and I know for a fact that this guy has made a pass on at least three of our mutual friends. Do I tell my friend the truth or stay out of it? - Dr. Love

Dear Dr. Love,

Well that depends entirely where he’s from. If he resides in Mullumbimby, then this is perfectly acceptable behaviour for the polyamorous, open style of loving that is being brewed out there. If the guy calls Ballina his local, he’s a dirty, sleazing swine and must be dobbed in immediately. If your friend’s from Mullum and he’s not then you might wanna help the brother out and let him know that she’s up for it, but if it’s the contrary you will need to speak your truth. You must double check their addresses and act accordingly.

Dear Keenwa,

Is it appropriate to jump the queue at the grocery store if I have three items and the person in front of me has 153 items? - Time To Shop

Dear Time To Shop,

If you had time to count the items in the next trolley, you got time to burn me thinks. But, I do know why you counted them. Whilst your kids were in the car outside (windows down) you watched as your fellow shopper recounted the waves he had that morning, the yoga his housemate got him onto, and the sugar free diet his girlfriend designed for him to the checkout chick, who, stopped scanning the items frequently, to make appropriate facial expressions and check out the pictures that went with the story on Instagram, acting like she was seeing them for the first time. Cut away, I say.

Got something to say? - Well here's your chance ... Unleashed And Out Of Control, Anonymous _____________________________________

In response to “Wildlife Warrior” I completely agree with your thoughts. Several years ago on the Suffolk Park beach I found a dead young joey pademelon (wallaby). It had been chased, mauled and killed by at least one dog. I regularly observe pademelons beside the walking track that starts at the northern end of Alcorn St. To observe these beautiful grazing animals is truly inspiring. Unfortunately, I also observe unleashed dogs and their owners on this track. Signs prominently displayed at entrances state that dogs must be leashed until the dog exercise area. These are ignored. In response to problems with the Suffolk Park dog exercise area, including out of control dogs interfering with other beach users, senior Council management has informed me that they will undertake a review of all dog exercise areas and the companion animal policy. This includes increased Ranger patrols. To those who want our wildlife protected lodge a complaint with the Rangers when you see a problem.

Congrats Anonymous, your submission has won you a $25 Get Toasted Voucher! Email at hello@byronbazaar.com to claim your prize. Your Mum Doesn’t Work Here, S.K.J.

__________________________________________ I took my kids to Belongil beach yesterday and was shocked at how much rubbish had been left behind by beach goers! Guess what guys, your Mum doesn’t work here. She’s not going to come in and clean up after you! So that leaves it to you to clean up your own mess. I always try to do my bit and pick up rubbish that’s been left behind by others- you know leave it better than you found it. But I have to draw a line in the sand. My toddler picked up a squished beer bottle cap with a roach inside of it. Yeah. We’ve also come across used toilet paper and other unsavories on the path to the beach! That I’m not cool with. I should be able to take my kids to the beach without worrying they’re going to come in contact with sharp objects, roaches, toilet paper or used prophylactics (if you catch my drift). Please do your part and keep our beaches safe and clean for all to use. Or if that’s too hard, bring your Mum to the beach with you so she can clean up after you.

This week we are in the thick of Mercury retrograde in Virgo. As always this is not the time to make big decisions, even though the internal pressure to do so is very strong, triggered by a Sun/Pluto trine. Use this week to analyse your data, revise, and rethink and re-evaluate the facts. If you move ahead now you might have to reconsider your decision after Pluto and Mercury go direct late this month. The weekend flavour is heavy and might lead to compulsive behaviour and create havoc in relationships. On Monday and Tuesday an old conflict could flare up, be mindful of your reactivity and watch your thoughts and words. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g

Aries This week the Hierophant challenges you to walk the mystical path with practical feet. You might find that your current circumstances really test your commitment to grow and develop further as a human being. It would be much easier to just react and lash out. Right now there is great potential to resolve old conflicts. Friends or family might draw on your inner strength and wisdom too.

h

Taurus The Ace of Disks is one of the highest manifestation cards in the deck. You should experience some concrete results and success this week, which come through a combination of being focused and committed to your objective, but also through an absolute alignment within and belief that you deserve abundance.

i

Gemini The biggest challenge to the Twin’s mind is to slow down the hyperactivity, and there might be plenty of it around this week with the 9 of Swords drawn! You might find yourself mulling things over and over again or feeling trapped in a cycle of self-criticism and regret. Stay in the present moment, breathe deeply and do the best you can right now. It might be helpful to talk to a good friend and get some real feedback.

a

Libra The Wheel of Fortune brings about a turning point and assists you to alter your present course to incorporate a new opportunity. This might take the form of an unexpected windfall or it might be a number or ‘aha moments’ of awakening to new possibilities. All you need now is an open and flexible mind and a willingness to gain a greater perspective.

b

Scorpio This is a week of regeneration and renewal for you. The 6 of Cups symbolises how energising and emotionally fulfilling it is to give and receive love, friendship and connection. As you generate abundant self-love and appreciation, you fill your own cup and it spills over in goodwill to anyone you come in contact with.

c

j

Sagittarius The Knight of Wands indicates that you are ready to take a leap of faith. An evolutionary change at the core level of your being gives birth to new perspectives. You are the mover and shaker of the zodiac this week and exciting things can happen around you. You don’t sweat the small stuff and nothing is going to stop you.

k

Capricorn The 8 of Wands symbolises clear, direct and articulate communication and networking; this is a difficult task when Mercury is retrograde in Virgo. So many details need to be considered, that it is almost impossible to keep an eye on the bigger picture. Nervous tension might build up.

Cancer The Temperance card is the archetype of a visionary or alchemist, who is able to blend, temper and integrate seeming polarities and paradoxes in life, and who distills pure essence. One of your life dreams is about to fall into place, all that is needed now is your readiness to skilfully transcend old limits and boundaries. Leo You might feel exhausted and emotionally drained this week; the 8 of Cups symbolises a time when you feel like you have nothing more to give. You might have been over-extending yourself, hanging on to a hopeless situation and now you experience burn-out. It might be helpful to just remove yourself for a few days, take refuge in nature, rest and recuperate.

l

Virgo The 4 of Disks represents a dilemma about the use and misuse of your inherent power. On the one side it is important that you honour your boundaries, and don’t let other people use you. On the other hand you might feel worried that, if you set clear limits and tell other people how you want to be respected, you’ll end up alone and isolated. The amount of resentment you are feeling indicates how much you let yourself down.

d

e

Aquarius The Ace of Cups is the big gift of the open heart. Right now you are very much in touch with your feelings and you trust yourself. The way you communicate verbally and non-verbally nourishes other people with love, light and insight. From this place, giving and receiving are one.

f

Pisces Just like last week the 2 of Cups is drawn for the Fishes! So whatever way of moving towards love you have discovered last week, shows you the way to continue this week. Explore the close connections and feelings of oneness your heart is longing for even further and more often...

CAITLIN + BRIEANN from WABI - SABI WELL

THIS WEEK’S MANTRA / THESE MOMENTS MATTER? These little moments make up your life. Each moment is fleeting. But the moment is all we have. And you get to decide if they matter. How you show up determines their worth. How you show up moment to moment makes a difference in the unfolding of your days, your life. Your sense of love, belonging and satisfaction are all tied to the quality of your presence. Here’s a useful moment-to-moment check-in checklist from the luminous Marianne Williamson: “In any given moment, am I rising to the occasion? Am I being ethical? Am I being impeccable? Am I being loving? Am I being of service? Am I being of use? Or am I grasping and controlling and trying to get?...Am I coming from what I can give or am I coming from what I can get? Am I living in the past or am I living in the future? Am I trying to control someone else or am I respecting where other people are?” These moments matter. Show up. Make them count.
