Did you know over 90% of people run incorrectly? Learn how to perfect your stride at a free running and biomechanics workshop hosted by Evolve Wellness Centre in Byron Bay (with physiotherapist and former national cross country champion Scott Thomson) this Saturday from 11:30am to 12:30pm. On Saturday night, Suffolk Park Community Centre is to host a screening of One Drum, a documentary about filmmaker Harley Van Valen’s epic road trip from New York City to Rio de Janeiro. The 7pm screening is designed to raise funds for Van Valen to continue his journey around Australia creating his next movie based on the First Peoples’ communities he plans to visit. Food will be available from The Grassy Bowl from 5:30pm. Then there’s Valentines Day, and a darn good way to spend it: by joining a flash mob in support of One Billion Rising, a global movement to stop violence against women. Get yourself down to Main Beach at 7am on Tuesday for the 7:30am start, and don’t forget to wear red! Come Tuesday evening, Vagina Conversations #2 begins its two-night run at Byron Theatre from 7:30pm. Following a sell-out performance last year, a collective of Byron Shire women aged 17 to 80 will gather again to share their own personal stories about the most intimate area of a woman’s body, with proceeds supporting the Domestic Violence Escape Fund for the Women's Resource Service. 2 Cents Worth Got Something To Say?
Salty Wounds, Earth to Element Why didn't the Flannerys build a train line on their own land? They have so much of it from what I remember... I suppose they don't want to give the place the wrong feel. Just throw it on someone else's doorstep and throw salt on the wound with a pissy locals ticket discount. That feels more like a wrap on the knuckles after the kick in the guts you delivered for living in your way. VEGEtarian, Anonymous Why does vegetarian food need to be named after animals? I mean vegan bacon is not bacon, there is no other conversation to be had about it, so why is it named after a pig? Or tofu sausages, the definition of a sausage is meat encased in skin. Is there meat and or skin in tofu? I personally, am sick of being vegetarian and having to order food named after the very thing I am trying to protect. Who’s with me?
Congrats VEGEtarian, your submission has won you a $25 Get Toasted Voucher! Email at hello@byronbazaar.com to claim your prize. What are your thoughts on “VEGEtarian”? Keep the convo going! Submit your 2 Cents Worth at byronbazaar.com/2cents

Dear Keenwa,
I have been thinking about taking up a musical instrument. Which one is going to make me look the coolest, without seeing like I am trying to hard? - In Tune
Dear In Tune, I was actually blown away by a body percussionist performance on the weekend, it can't be that hard to learn right? I urge you to spend some time in the mirror, highfiving some of your hard to reach body parts until it sounds relatively like music. Dance like nobody is watching. March to the beat of your own drum. Stay there until you find your own damn rhythm. Then, you might wanna bust it out about town somewhere. Keep it super casual, of course. Perhaps while you're waiting for your turmeric latte or putting way too many coins in the overpriced parking metre. And there you have it. An organic. Fair-trade. Affordably, sustainable instrument. Boom.
Dear Keenwa,
There seem to be a lot of celebrities getting married in town. I am getting married soon and want to be as fashionable as they are. What would you recommend for my special day? - White Wedding
Dear White Wedding, I recommend you take a good hard look at yourself. Here's something the celebs don't know, monogamy is the name of the sinking ship that sticks out at The Wreck. As you prepare for a life of mating in captivity, know that 50% end up in divorce. What are you going to do differently? We may have descended from horny bonobos, but apparently just as the movies tell us, marital bliss is possible. As happily married relationship expert Esther Perel says, us humans are a funny bunch, “We're walking contradictions, seeking safety and predictability on one hand and thriving on diversity on the other. Love rests on two pillars: surrender and autonomy. Our need for togetherness exists alongside our need for separateness.” May the force be with you. And the damn celebrities.

THIS WEEK’S MANTRA - YIELDING YIELDS GREAT RETURNS Change of plans, a shift in energy, an alteration to our timelines, a shuffling of priorities. These things happen every day in ways big and small. We can collapse under the weight of the change. We can fight it. OR we can MEET IT. This middle path - meeting what is - is called yielding, and it's the path of catharsis, growth and expansion. In other words, it's the way forward. Yielding is not giving up and laying down. It’s bending, not breaking. It is a willingness to meet yourself where you are. Yielding is gracefully giving way to WHAT IS. Yielding is what allows us to make space for EXPANSION in our lives, in our hearts, and our bodies. The fact is that yielding yields great returns. It fosters fresh perspectives and gifts us with dynamic healing, robust intuition and inspiration, and it invites the growth of something new, something tender, something unexpected. Meet yourself where you are (right now) and you'll understand trust- in yourself and in life. Meet your body where it is (just as it is) and you'll discover oceans of gratitude for the miracle that you are. Meet others where they are and you'll come face to face with the blossoming of mutual compassion, forgiveness and resonance. This is grace. This is trust. This is yielding.

There are two different roads that you could travel on during the days leading up to the Full Moon in Leo on Saturday. Route one: you feel switched on and enthusiastic about new possibilities; creative adventures might be opening up, while being playful and having fun with friends and family. Route two: you feel frustrated because you have the nagging feeling that you are not free enough to do what you want to do, but are stuck in duty and routine. No matter which route you travel, this is a highly emotional time and it could produce fall-out during the next two weeks. This Full Moon is a lunar eclipse which is not visible from Australia and, as always, the two weeks between the lunar and solar eclipses may bring great changes, good-byes and new beginnings. With Venus and Mars travelling only five degrees apart in Aries, relationships are challenging and bossy behaviour could end in a ‘my way or the highway’ stalemate situation. Nevertheless Sunday to Tuesday are under the very optimistic and creative influence of a Sun/Jupiter air trine which also ‘oils’ our communication skills. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.
g
Aries The 7 of Cups symbolises the pitfalls of dealing with challenging issues in a destructive and self-sabotaging way. You might feel overwhelmed, craving change or needing real solutions, but you are lacking determination while stuck in procrastination and indulging in addictive patterns. Maybe a step by step plan for the next two weeks might help?
h
a
Libra The 10 of Swords describes a persistent negative mindset that you might find difficult to overcome. Some great, unfulfilled expectations might have triggered you into it and rendered you powerless. To find new equilibrium it may be very helpful to consciously adopt the attitude of gratitude for the things that are working out in your life; this will change your mood.
b
Taurus The Devil Tarot card represents the shadow within; you can recognise it when you become controlling, obsessed or when you blame others for your predicament. Owning your shadow and taking responsibility means realising how you made yourself prisoner of your own choices; from here on change is possible and highly likely during the next two weeks.
Scorpio The Ace of Cups symbolises the big gift of fulfilment and inner satisfaction. While your cup is full and overflowing your greatest joy is to share your love with others and to find ways to uplift the ones who need it most. A new or renewed love might be on the cards too...
Gemini The Strength card brings a renewed zest for life, plenty of energy, as well as (erotic) passion; now you have to tame the beast and give it a purposeful direction. Creativity is highlighted and if you add a dose of perseverance you can achieve great and pleasurable results.
i
Sagittarius The 9 of Wands promises a week of inner alignment, strength and stamina. There is no doubt about your direction. Your vision and perception are sharp and clear. Challenges might come up but you meet them with resilience and a ‘can-do’ attitude.
j
d
k
e
l
f
Cancer The 2 of Cups symbolises love, not as a concept to aspire to but as the driving force behind every action you take. Therefore whatever you do, it is infused by benevolence, goodwill and your open heart. From this place giving and receiving are equally pleasurable and effortless. Leo This week the 8 of Disks asks you to meet any challenge with a very measured and practical response. You might say that applying yourself with prudence and diligence is not really your cup of tea but if you persevere and don’t get pushy you’ll be rewarded soon.
Virgo The 4 of Disks might indicate a tricky situation; you may feel the need to set clear boundaries and lay down the rules with certain people, but as soon as that is established you might feel overwhelmed by doubt and remorse. Some of your suffering comes because you hold onto an ideal vision of life which has not much in common with your reality.
c
Capricorn The Fool Tarot card represents a new beginning that, far from being foolish, indicates that you are ready to follow your heart’s longing and desire, even though your mind may still have some reservations. You overcome them quickly as you get excited about your new calling and because you feel so alive and inspired as you move on.
Aquarius The 8 of Swords describes restrictions or a dilemma that you feel is forced upon you by someone else. Frantically overanalysing your options and trying to gain control over the situation is not bringing you any relief right now. It is best to wait the situation out until next week and trust that things will work out just fine.
Pisces The 8 of Wands demands swift and decisive action. If you recognise the opportunity that presents itself and if you ‘strike while the iron is hot’ you can easily manifest what you want. Old blockages can be overcome and doors can open magically through skilful communication and negotiation.

Q&A
A Quick Chat With ...
BARELY STANDING MUSIC
Joe Jackson & Romey - @barelystandingmusic Describe your sound in 3 words? Coastal, blues & stomp. Tell us a little bit about the band name? We’d finished a show one night and sitting backstage having a few drinks and suddenly Romey had a moment. He realised that we never wear shoes when we play and that everyone is usually fairly drunk by the time we finish a show, we were from that point on called “Barely Standing.” Best festival you have ever been to? J: Hard to choose between Byron Bay Blues Festival or Splendour In The Grass, I’ll go with Blues Fest. R: I’m really tied up choosing between Rainbow Serpent Festival & Blues Festival, though for live music, definitely Byron Blues Fest. You’re up from Melbourne for one show in your hometown Byron Bay, what do you miss most? Being close to the waves are our family. Dead or alive, who would you have a drink with? J: Geoff Bridges – Actor, would be a good one, what a cool cat. R: Dave Chapelle - Comedian. What’s on your playlist at the moment? J: Black Revel Motorcycle Club, City & Colour and Nathaniel Ratecliffe. R: Paolo Nutini, John Butler, Jayden Reid & Pierce Brothers. Who has been your biggest inspiration? J: That’s hard, though my family are definitely at the top. R: Growing up listening to Juzzie Smith busk at the markets surrounding Byron was a huge inspiration, along with my family and friends continuously supporting us in everything we do. If you could collaborate with anyone in the world, who would it be and why? J: John Lee Hooker, because he could write a great tune. R: Paolo Nutini, I think he is in amazing song writer and is incredibly underrated. If you’re not busking or playing a gig, where can we find you? J: Most likely in the garden or with my girl. R: Down by the beach having a BBQ. You can catch Barely Standing at Hotel Brunswick on the 19th of February ‘17.
