Bargain treasures await you this weekend in Bruns with the Old and Gold Festival. This awesome annual event sees Brunswick Heads turn into one big giant happy garage sale. You can pick your way through 100 garage sales, plus check out four incredible second-hand and collectable fairs. Sounds like it will be impossible to go home empty handed. Everyone gets involved so there’s also entertainment, food and you can browse a bargain from the comfort of a horse and carriage ride if that’s what you’re into. On Saturday night the next epic series of Lightbody Community Dance Celebrations is on at Durrumbul Hall (down the road from Mullumbimby). Pob is the featured DJ and after 20 years on the stage, there’s no doubt he will have the good vibes flowing. He’s supported by Jason Lewis, Miles Jackson, Strange Planet and ASAF. The dance floor will be buzzing from 6pm till midnight and tickets are $25. In Byron next Tuesday you have a few options if you’re keen to head out. In response to ‘A Drag Racing Quarter Mile?’ Brandon Street is a great street to live except for the excessive number and speed of the cars which use it as a through road. Standing on the grass talking to a young family is the normal, lots of community spirit in this street and many families with young children. But this is taking a risk because of the crazy driving of people in a hurry. Why are they in such a hurry? Slow down and look around you, you are driving in a quiet street! Just because you can get there quicker than Alcorn St., going this way realise that there are little children living here. Recently a car in a hurry swerved around the corner came to where I was standing on the grass with a young mum and her 3 children under 5 and a dog, a neighbour stopped to say hi when the car sped up and decided to overtake coming onto the grass on the wrong side of the road a foot away from one child and close enough to me I touched the car. The neighbour had already started to move off.

Am I the only one confused by the bombardment of messages to live a long, healthy life? One blog says drink tea, one trashy magazine says drink coffee, the food label says fermented food is good, social media says eat un-processed food but fermentation is a process, one experts says low fat but another says go crazy on high fat avocado and eat butter but not margarine. Is spray free the same as organic? Is some alcohol to relax better than none as many studies say? We are swimming in wellness, mindfulness, nature and green smoothie hashtags here in Byron but I love a wine and some chocolate too. I especially love a paleo caramel slice - those cavemen got it spot on when they invented that layered shortcake-caramelchocolate slice of goodness. Can you believe that was part of their healthy paleo diet back in the day?
