Thursday • 19 November • 2015 YOUR ECLECTIC MARKETPLACE WHERE GOODS AND SERVICES OF ALL KINDS ARE BARTERED, BOUGHT AND SOLD
PO BOX 880 • BYRON BAY • TEL: 02 6680 7158 • hello@byronbazaar.com • www.byronbazaar.com AROUND TOWN THIS WEEK One thing is for sure. The biggest little town in Australia knows how to throw a party. Here to officially kick off the silly season this weekend is the Mullum Music Fest. The streets of Mullumbimby will be buzzing with amazing local and international acts across several venues. The line up is as colourful and diverse as the town itself, so snap up the last of the tickets on the website. Make sure you also take along a t-shirt so you can screen print it with the 2015 festival art. For all of you budding entrepreneurs out there, the StartInno Startup Weekend is also on. This is an awesome opportunity to actually pitch an idea and develop it to launch stage, all within 54 hours. Take this break to test ideas and meet potential co-founders in your local area. Hop onto the StartInno website for more info. Then on Wednesday night, there will be a screening of Tanna at the Byron Community Centre. Discover the true story of forbidden love performed by the local people of Yakel, a remote island of Vanuatu. There will be an audience Q & A with the co-director Martin Butler after the film. Enjoy! Got something to say? - Well here's your chance ... It’s Time To Back Off
Anonymous __________________________________________ Do you know just about the only thing that puts me off beautiful Byron Bay? Being ambushed by backpacker sales staff! You gotta give it to them, they are good at their job. They can smell fresh backpacker blood a mile away. However, being stopped 15 times in one day, being asked the same questions over and over again, while I’ve just popped out to pick up some dinner from Woolies, may soon result in aggression from this usually mild-mannered girl. I mean, I’ve only been in Byron a month, but how many times do I need to repeat how long I’m staying, where I am from, blah blah blah. A tip for Byron’s outgoing, cheery sales reps: if someone walks past you at a calf-burning pace (guilty), obviously avoids eye contact with you (sorry), or “answers a call” (sadly, a regular tactic of mine) just before they walk by, they might not be in the mood to chat. And that’s okay. Let them be. But please realise that you are scaring people away rather than enticing them to come back!
Congrats Anonymous, your submission has won you a $50 Republik voucher! Email us at hello@byronbazaar.com to claim your prize.
The Camper Come Back
Anonymous __________________________________________ I have a bone to pick regarding a previous issue’s 2 Cents Worth submission (5th Nov) about people living in their camper vans. Generalisations were made about the camper van subculture which were totally unwarranted. Blaming the vomit and rubbish problem you encounter on a daily walk through Byron on a specific demographic is highly uneducated and irresponsible. I am a foreigner who has lived in my van off and on for nearly 6 months. A majority of people who I encounter living in their vans are responsible, respectful and partake in the “Byron way” (nomadic, free spirited, environmentally friendly) approach to life. Before pointing a finger at other people ask yourself when you were last part of the solution and not the problem? When was the last time you picked up a piece of trash at the beach or on the street that wasn’t yours? In the future, use your energy in a positive manner and think before making assumptions about a population of people who might be contributing to the solution more than you assume.
A Fountain Of Reality
Irene __________________________________________ We are surrounded with water. Water in the ocean, water in our creeks, water falling from the sky - isn’t it just wonderful. SO, why on earth are we accepting water in plastic bottles in this town!?!!? It totally upsets me to see people - both visitors and locals walking out of Woolies with crates of water in small plastic bottles! Every shop is filled with drinks in plastic bottles. The bins are filled with plastic bottles for a mouth full of liquid to drink. Surely this very aware town can promote a ‘NO PLASTIC BOTTLES POLICY’? And for the retailers who think they will miss out - why not replace these bottles with selling reusable water filter bottles. No brainer. These can be sold everywhere! And how about a couple of filter taps. If you’re worried about vandalism, put them in places like inside the Beach Hotel or Community Centre. They would be an attraction for people to come in and use - buy the bottle from you and fill it up!

Aries The Empress encourages you to get in touch with your feminine, receptive nature. Take a little time off, closely connect with Mother Earth, receive her into your heart and mind and allow yourself to enter into a peaceful frame of mind. From there it will be easier to cope with this week’s astrological flavour.
h
Taurus The Prince of Disks suggests that sticking to the tried and tested will help you to move steadily along your path without major upheavals. Taking care of mundane day-to-day tasks will bring you satisfaction and keep you safe. You know that from little things big things can grow!
i
Gemini The 9 of Wands is a sign of hope and encouragement; as you tap into hidden reserves and persevere you will achieve your goal. This is not only about physical strength but also about your mental, emotional and spiritual strength creating resilience.
j
Cancer The Moon Tarot card reinforces the commitment to be authentic, rather than dutiful or false in any way. Caring for yourself, as a matter of self-sustenance, is even more important than caring for others! You might be challenged to be truly honest and create clear boundaries in a relationship this week.
k
Leo The 7 of Disks symbolises limitation and fear of failure regarding one of your long-term projects. You might be questioning some of your choices and need some time to take stock, evaluate and ponder alternatives. It would be favourable to be open to new strategies and find new approaches to an old problem.
l
Virgo This week the Queen of Swords gifts you with courage, so that you can be honest, astute and forthright in facing and telling the truth. Using your sharp analytical intellect, your discernment is accurate and you get to the heart of any matter without delay. This clarifies any muddled situation.

>> A quick chat with a Byron local>> FLO FENTON Business Name: Intouch Yoga Teacher Training Job Title: Principle Teacher/ Director Intouch Yoga Place of Birth: Yorkshire, England The vice you’ll never give up? I never say never - all things can and do change! A vice that I have been working with for a long time though, is perfectionism, and doing too much. How do you take your coffee? Strong, with a large cup of warm oat milk and freshly ground cardamom - only once a day. If you weren’t a yoga teacher you’d be… A campaigner for better treatment of animals and the environment. The best advice you ever received? Do less. What should everyone try at least once in their life? Listening. First to their body and their breath, and their own mind. Then to others. When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grew up? Happy. What’s your biggest pet peeve? Needless cruelty, especially to animals. People who buy eggs, milk, chicken and bacon from sources that mean that those animals are tortured, caged in the dark with no space, and no possibility of any semblance of a meaningful existence, when organic and cruelty-free options are readily available. You’re trapped on a deserted island, what three things would you bring? I used to live ‘on the road’ in a truck in the UK in the ‘80’s - so I know what is needed! A water container, a good axe, some matches. Describe a perfect day in Byron Bay. Saturday morning yoga class at the Suffolk Park Hall with fabulous students, cooked brunch on my deck and doing the Good Weekend Quick Quiz with husband Steve and my best friend Fab, then a beach or lighthouse walk, swim, cuddle my cats and my husband, then dinner at ‘O-Sushi’! I can’t live without… My practice. I structure all my work commitments and events around this!
