We are so lucky with our local talent and tonight you can enjoy a showcase of North Coast musicians with the NCEIA Dolphin Music Awards Showcase. The Rochelle Lees Band, Serinna McGrath, Blackboi and Carmen Cane will all be playing at the Beach Hotel from 8:30pm. If you’re into Valentines Day then get your love on this Sunday. It’s also V-Day which is a global movement to end violence against women and children. There’s going to be a ﬂash mob on Main Beach at 7:30am. Then on Sunday night at Byron Theatre the Vagina Conversations kick off at 6:30pm. A colourful collection of local women will be sharing their own stories about their most intimate body part. Mandy Nolan, Zenith Virago, Ilona Harker and Cyd Saunders are just a few who will be taking the stage. It’s set to be funny, sad and an empowering evening with all proceeds going to the local Women’s Resource Service Escape Fund (tickets are $15). If you’re more interested in meeting your Valentine this weekend then head to the Ocean Shores Country Club where funny gal Ellen Briggs is hosting a singles dinner for over 30’s. Enjoy! Unfortunately, there are no amenities for visitors, and it has become more of an open public toilet. This is Ballina Councils’ responsibility and no one there has it on their priority list. This place is beautiful and we are very blessed to live here, but we are incredibly shocked about the hygiene in some of the places to eat in Byron Bay. Have you realised how many people don’t wear gloves, serve food, take money and then they continue preparing the food? Around a month ago I went to buy bread and the guy was putting the bread in a bag with no gloves! I asked him directly, “you don’t use gloves when you touch the bread?” and he said rudely “no, what’s the point. If you don’t like it, don’t buy”. We were seriously shocked. I can tell you that I have volunteered in many hospitals and you can never imagine the amount of illnesses you can catch simply from the exchange of taking money and not washing hands. It is really disappointing to see how shop owners/workers place all the attention on making money without taking into consideration the sanitation regulations and the possible repercussions on customers.
