The super soulful Starlight Festival kicks off today in Bangalow, promising four days of spiritual growth and enlightenment. Feast on good vibes and celebrate conscious living with yoga, workshops, healing, music and inspirational talks from an amazing range of speakers. To suss out the full lineup timetable, go to their website. Good vibes of another kind will be vibrating out of the Great Northern on Saturday night as Tijuana Cartel takes the stage. Known for their strong live shows and tight production, this is one crew that never disappoint. Tickets are $25 plus booking fee. Just down the road in the Community Centre The Space Cowboy will be showing you why he’s leading the frontier of extreme performance. The holder of 38 Guinness World Records will be putting on his death defying stunts of Sword Swallowing and more. Tickets are $25. Then on Monday Austen Tayshus Merchant of Menace is going to be cracking folks up at the Pandanus Room at Byron Services Club. Local funny gal Mandy Nolan is putting this one on and will also be doing her thing. What do you know? Tickets to this gig are also $25. Must be the lucky number of the week. Got something to say? - Well here's your chance ... Paid Parking Feedback

An Eternal Optimist __________________________________________ Anyone who drives and parks a car in town and / or owns a business will have varying thoughts on paid parking. One thing is for sure - it is here to stay. For some, change and the reluctance to accept change and paid parking is painful. For others, who accept it and adopt, it’s not so bad. Personally, I got my parking exemption for $50 for one year and it seems there are a few more parks in town now so there is less time looking for a park (NYE excluded). For the $1 per week fee my car is looking forward to smoother roads. I’d also like to give the council a high 5 and fist pump for getting some progress done in Byron, it really can’t be easy making “unpopular” decisions for what we hope is the greater good.

Congrats Eternal Optimist, your submission has won you a $50 Republik voucher! Email us at hello@byronbazaar.com to claim your prize.

Magic Happens

Stevie __________________________________________ Got a bit loose over Chrissy and lost my wallet twice! The first time, someone handed it in to the cops - no cash, but the cards were left in, so all good. The second time, my wallet was found placed on top of the green bin in the Rails car park - again, all cards were in there, but no money. BIG love Byron Bay, magic does happen… but I’ll never learn! ;)

Soul Street Ain’t So Sweet

Suz J. __________________________________________ Love that our council is trying to create a family friendly, wholesome vibe for New Years Eve, but I think the traffic planning could be more well thought out and better executed. On the afternoon of New Years Eve it took me over an hour to get from Mitre 10 to the roundabout by the Police Station. NUTS! Why are we blocking off the only way in and out of town during peak season? Soul Street is a great idea, no doubt, but wouldn’t it make more sense to do it over at the Butler Street Reserve or where the Beachside markets are located? Or even on a parallel street like Fletcher that isn’t the main drag through town? I’m sure council considered many options, but it doesn’t seem like they picked the best one... or the best plan for managing the traffic. The traffic controllers at Marvell St were faffing around, not doing much to help direct the flow traffic, despite there being 3 of them! Great to see our tax dollars loafing around having afternoon tea!

Aries The serious mood of this week might activate your tendency to put yourself down and be very judgmental about your personal progress. The 9 of Swords symbolises a worry pattern that increases tension and anxiety. This is NOT the way to motivate and inspire yourself, it rather works in the opposite direction! Taurus The World Tarot card can literally mean travel, but in a broader sense it signifies a deep understanding of your role in this world, as well as your impact in your sphere of influence. It is the place and time where you feel you really fit in and contribute with your gift or talent to make this world a better place.

i

Gemini Watch out for any negativity concerning relationships or finance creeping into your mind and heart! The 10 of Swords is a mental attitude that works like a wet blanket on any emerging ideas and it might keep you locked in ‘victim or martyr mode’. To balance your own inner darkness focus on what you appreciate in your life, every time you notice your self-depreciation.

j

Cancer While maintaining the status quo is very important for the Crabs of the zodiac, your resistance to change creates inflexibility and might lead to confrontation with your nearest and dearest. The 4 of Disks symbolises the fine line between having things your way and staying flexible to the needs of others.

k

Leo This is a week to work diligently and methodically on things that are dear to your heart. The promise of the 8 of Disks is that, as you apply yourself fully, you will harvest what you intend. Just make sure you take care of fine details and keep checking and re-checking your work.

l

Virgo Quite contrary to the overall astrological flavour of this week, which focuses on practical worldly achievements, you are called to turn inward, explore your feelings and follow your heart’s guidance much more than your analytical mind. The Queen of Cups symbolises a time for deep contemplation and communication with nature. A purely rational and logical approach will not work well for you.
