Essential Intentions are putting on the Hello Yellow Party at the Byron Bay Brewery from 1pm (tickets are $30). It’s Chameleon Recordings latest EP release in conjunction with their Amsterdam Dance Event showcase so it’s sure to be a fun dance party full of good vibes. Up at the legendary Brunswick Heads Hotel, the Sea Shepherd Benefit Gig is also happening on Saturday. Andrew Stockdale from Wolfmother is leading a great line up of bands and there will also be a few words from the likes of the Sea Shepherd Captain Peter Hammarstedt and others. It’s just a gold coin entry and goes from midday until 10pm. If you’re chasing a difference pace, the Purna Retreat on Skinner Shoot Road is having its open day on Saturday. The program kicks off at 9am with a variety of yoga classes and wellness workshops. Kids over five can join the Circus Arts workshops while you are getting all zen. Then on Sunday at the Patagonia Store, you can check out a special preview screening of ‘The Barrel Volume 11’ at 7:30pm. Blessed in Byron Ida __________________________________________ Having grown-up in Sweden and lived in Byron for the past 2 years, there is rarely a day that goes by that I am not thankful for living in this amazing town that is blessed with so many awesome things to see and do! Two weeks ago the Surf Festival captured the essence of all that makes Byron so special – great waves (kinda!), great people, great vibe! And then this past weekend, we get to enjoy all wonderfully talented and creative people that present their wares at the monthly Sunday Markets. Even just the simple pleasure of doing the lighthouse walk and watching kayakers go by, surfers hanging out and families drinking in the stunning views makes me smile on the inside and out. Considering the number of visitors pouring into town everyday, the secret about Byron is obviously out, but it was 2 degrees C in Stockholm today, so everyday I get to spend in Byron is win in my books! Depo Reno P.K. Thompson __________________________________________ Isn’t it nice to FINALLY see something being done about the state of our local bus depot. For many of the 100,000s of visitors to Byron Bay each year, this is usually the first sight they are greeted with – besides all the totes from the backpackers – when they step off the bus from their long journey. Since it is usually covered in graffiti, littered with rubbish & empty bottles, and often occupied by people sleeping off their adventures from the night before, perhaps we should have asked Simon & Shannon from The Block to have a go at fixing it up when they were in town a couple of weeks ago! Considering you never get a second chance to make a first impression, it is a relief to see that the well-overdue refurbishment is being undertaken before the big summer rush of tourists. Good on ya Council for identifying and taking action to fix one of the key areas of our special little town – can’t wait to see the grand reveal!

What's Happening in Our Community Cancer Support Group A new general cancer support group is starting in Byron Bay in November for anyone living in the Northern Rivers . Meetings will be fortnightly and held at the Cancer Council building in Byron. The aim of the group is to provide a safe, supportive and friendly environment for people with cancer to share their feelings and discuss how it has affected them and their families.
