On Saturday, 100 Mile Table will be hosting a Peruvian feast including a pisco sour, cassava fries, causa (a layered potato dish) with seafood, carapulcra (pork stew) and alfajor (like a soft cookie) with ice cream – crafted from the best produce in the area – for $70 per head. To book, email achefspocket@gmail.com. There’s plenty to do on Sunday, starting with the Lennox Head Street Food and Craft Beer Festival at Club Lennox from 3-9pm. Expect food trucks and craft beer vendors galore, live tunes, and free kids activities. At 6:30pm, broadcasting veteran Kerry O’Brien will be launching his memoir Kerry O’Brien, A Memoir (and chatting to Mick O’Reagan) at Byron Theatre ($25; byroncentre.com.au). At the same time cross town, Pighouse Flicks will be screening the Byron premiere of China Love, a documentary exploring the curious Chinese trend of elaborate pre-wedding photo shoots ($15; pighouseflicks.com. au), followed by a panel discussion about how modern Chinese tourists could affect the Byron Shire chaired by former China Correspondent for the Australian Financial Review and gold Walkley award-winner Colleen Ryan.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

THURSDAY’S NEW MOON IN SCORPIO

is inward, reclusive and private. It is still under the influence of a trine to Neptune (exact last Tuesday), making this the perfect time for immersing yourself in a creative project that allows your imagination and deep emotions to flow. On Friday Jupiter moves into fiery Sagittarius; here he is very happy and buoyant. Jupiter symbolises all things expansive, benevolent and optimistic. In the sign of the free-spirited Archer he loves adventure, and offers generosity as well as the willingness to bridge cultural and social divides for the next year. On Saturday Mars and Venus, the two archetypes for relationships, form an amicable air-trine from Aquarius to Libra. There is a wonderful opportunity to overcome any heavy-heartedness or resentment that has accumulated within partnerships during the past few weeks. A weekend away from routine and responsibility might work wonders! This time is also perfect for larger family gatherings, a conference or a seminar. Monday and Tuesday are great days to advance your projects; a Sun/Pluto sextile (exact on Monday) brings determination and empowerment to seize an opportunity, just in time before Mercury turns retrograde in a few days! For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

The Princess of Swords relates very much to the ‘free-spirit theme’ above and so does Aries! You might get prickly if people tell you what to do or how you should behave. Try to stay as kind as possible when you have to tell them to mind their own business.

The 3 of Cups promises ample heart fulfilment and abundance this week. This is a wonderful opportunity to reunite with old friends and family, or to make amends in a relationship that has been strained. It is time to care, share, receive and celebrate.

The Wheel of Fortune expands your vision and positive outlook. You may suddenly see opportunities where previously you perceived only problems, and with a bit of luck you can turn things around easily. An ‘aha’ moment or a sudden windfall is likely to occur as well!

The 4 of Disks describes the dilemma you might face when you want to give, please and serve but you experience your limits about how much more you can handle. It may be important this week to show others how you want to be treated and that you need to be respected.

i GEMINI

a LIBRA

The Prince of Wands is often called ‘Prince Charming’. Especially on Monday or Tuesday you may be able to use your great people-skills to overcome a difficult situation concerning a relationship. If you dread talking things over with someone, do it during these days.

j CANCER

The Knight of Disks is attached to the safety and predictability of his well-trodden path. At times he might miss an opportunity because of his single-minded focus on all the hard work that is in front of him. This is the week to lighten your burden and work smarter, not harder.

POSITIVE CHANGE FOR MARINE LIFE

Are looking for volunteers to fill a number of positions, such as Beach/River Survey Officers, Education Officers and Market Volunteers. If you are interested in ocean conservation, visit WWW.PCFML.ORG.AU or email S.MUSTON@PCFML.ORG.AU for more info!

BY GISELA

The Judgement Tarot card comes as a reminder to perceive situations from the broadest perspective possible. This is a time for reflection, self-evaluation and awakening to new possibilities, especially if you feel that you are at a crossroads and that any path you take brings significant, long-lasting change.

b SCORPIO

The Hermit Tarot card relates perfectly to the Scorpionic New Moon theme of retreat and inward focus. As you let go of outer distractions you may find great inspiration for a creative endeavour that mirrors your soul-search. You might find some surprising answers from within if you listen carefully…

THE BAY SITTERS

c SAGITTARIUS

With Jupiter just moving into your sign you might feel very outgoing and ready for an adventure. The Prince of Disks, however, advises you to not set off in a hurry, but to take time to wrap up loose ends and have a good plan of action before you embark on a new journey.

d CAPRICORN

The 2 of Wands represents a new level of empowerment and self-discovery that transforms your worldview. You might be bolder and braver than ever before, and tackle old and new challenges with great courage and confidence. The art of perfect timing is something to consider…

e AQUARIUS

With the 8 of Swords drawn your mind might be preoccupied with paralysing doubt and confusion. Most likely you feel constrained by others’ way of thinking, their expectations or their rules. The Mars/Venus trine suggests talking it over openly, otherwise your resentment grows.

f PISCES

The 9 of Cups is often called the ‘wish-card’. It promises fulfilment in relationships and on a creative level. Allow your longings to show you the way, go for what you want, and take care of your own emotional well-being and happiness. Sharing it amplifies it and serves the world!

DEAR KEENWA, I am frothing on being in a conscious relationship with my woman (well technically, a woman, as we don't practice ownership in our coupling). I wouldn't say it's easy, but I bet the payoff will one day be worth it. She recently invited me to drink her menstrual blood to seal our union, which I just don't feel comfortable doing, but I am torn as I have made a commitment to growth. What should I do? As you know, conscious relating requires deep shadow inquiry. I suggest you meditate upon on it for at least 40 days and nights, have a yarn with your men's group, and also consult the tarot and I Ching. What is at the root of your discomfort? Are you a commitment-phobe, perhaps fearful of the eternal tie this will bring you? The real question I think is, does she want you to spit or swallow?

My Insta rants used to be quite popular with lots of likes and followers coming to me for guidance. Lately this has dropped dramatically, which makes me feel as if my beliefs are a little too kooky. I have no history of mental illness, but am now not feeling so sure. How do I know if I am experiencing a spiritual awakening, or psychosis? In your professional opinion, which one am I and what's the diff ? - Self-taught Shaman

DEAR SELF-TAUGHT SHAMAN, Oh, what's that the sound of? A million extinct elders screaming, “I told you so.” Maybe if we didn't live in a society that was so youth-obsessed, we would not have forgotten our place in the food chain of life. We need the elders in our community to guide us up the mountain of our own shadow and support us in our becoming. Amazingly, there are some things you can't find the answer to on social media. If you do happen to find an old fella locally, please get them to send me a DM.

HEAVILY Meditated

TM

With Caitlin Cady

This week's mantra

MEDITATION IS AN INVESTMENT, NOT AN INDULGENCE. If you’ve ever felt super guilty sitting around and doing “nothing” (AKA meditating), let me ask you this. Do you feel guilty when you take time to exercise? Or when you take a shower? Or when you eat a nourishing and nutritious meal? Probably not. So why would you feel guilty when you meditate? In my book, meditation falls into the category of the most fundamental forms of self-care. It’s an investment in your well-being and it’s anything but selfish. Caring well for your mental, emotional and physical wellbeing is not self-indulgent, it’s of service to the world. When you heal your shit, you heal the world. And if your inner light is dialled down to dim, how can you shine a light for others? You won’t win any awards for being a hot mess, or having a hot temper or being hamstrung to unhealthy habits (meditation can help with all of those things, BTW). This isn’t a competition on who can be the least-well-looked after human. So stop shaming yourself for looking after yourself. That’s a bullshit way of living and it serves no one. Remember this: meditation is an investment, not an indulgence. And it pays dividends for you and for all of those who cross your path. Mamas and papas—- if you have little ones, hear this: it’s your duty to set an example of exceptional selfcare. Show them the ropes and lead by example.

BOOKS FOR Y

This week's review

TITLE: The Rules of Magic AUTHOR: Alice Hoffman NUMBER OF PAGES: 384 EST. READ TIME: 6 hours and 21 minutes PRICE: $19.90 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Three siblings, living on the cusp

of the sixties discover they are part of the Owens family, known for their abilities in witchcraft and wizardry but also haunted by a curse. They can never fall in love. And if they do? Their lovers will die tragic deaths, no matter how hard they try to avoid it. As the children grow up they discover that love is harder to avoid than they thought and they must navigate their unfortunate fate and futures.

WHO IT'S FOR: This book reminded me of A Series of

Unfortunate Events in it’s tone and Harry Potter with it’s subject matter. If you enjoy reading about magic then this is for you.

WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: The thing I love about this

book is that it’s not all about magic and witchcraft. The book explores many ideas including what it means to be ‘different’, in a time when different isn’t accepted. As the book is set in the 1960s onwards it speaks volumes about our own societies prejudices in the present day. Alice Hoffman is masterful when talking about love, family and the bonds that tie us together.

NOTABLE QUOTE: “When you truly love someone and

they love you in return, you ruin your lives together. That is not a curse, it’s what life is, my girl. We all come to ruin, we turn to dust, but whom we love is the thing that lasts.”

Adelaide Friday @PIRATESDREAMING

PIRATES DREAMING IS ALL ABOUT WHAT? Pirates

Dreaming is for the rule breakers and the style makers, the dreamers and the adventurous spirits. It’s more than just jewellery. It’s a story worth living.

WHY DID YOU LAST GO OVERSEAS? I went to Europe. The

initial reason and the beginning of the journey was to celebrate love, the end was to celebrate poetry, and the middle was all about magic adventures.

HOW DO YOU FIND POETRY AND JEWELLERY RELATING?

Poetry is something I do when I want to take a break from making rings. I found a beautiful old typewriter when I was travelling through central NSW, it became a fixture in my studio and after a while I found another which lives in my bus home. So now I am surrounded by the sound of typewriters and the beauty of poetry. It makes me very happy.

FRIDAY NIGHT @The OVP Hub

WHAT’S NEXT FOR ADELAIDE? As soon as I returned home from Europe, I began working on a new collection. I was massively inspired by ancient Greece and the freedom of style in the cities I visited. As a result, an exciting new range is coming very soon. And more adventures.

TELL ME PART OF YOUR FAVOURITE POEM? Favourites are

hard, but there are words by Luka Less that I always have written on my wall “a glass of water, a deeper breath or a moment alone" and also “For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed" -Kahlil Gibran.

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT THE ART OF BEING A JEWELLER? It’s all about the process. It brings you into the present moment, it’s like a playful, creative meditation.

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF LIFE FOR YOU? Poetry,
