On Friday night, the Beautiful Girls roll into town on their Learn Yourself/Morning Sun tour to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Aussie roots group’s first album, Learn Yourself, which followed the release of their debut single, Morning Sun. Catch them at The Northern from 9pm ($46.50). On Sunday, it’s over to the Beachy for the annual Sneaky Sound System party with Miss Connie belting out the hits from 9pm. From next Wednesday to Saturday, funnyman Wil Anderson will be testing out new material at the Brunswick Picture House from 7pm before taking his new show around the country, though you’ll need to be quick to snap up the last few available tickets. STOP THE GIFTS – FOREVER GRATEFUL I have 3 kids and each year I try and be more and more mindful about what Santa brings them. I guess when they were younger they were spoilt with all the latest, trendy gadgets and clothes. I found, however, that a lot of what they received went unused, and really the most fun part of Christmas was actually the time we all spent together. Trying to explain this to my family (mostly their grandparents) has been challenging, and again we have ended up with a room full of barely used toys. It is such a waste. Next year I am putting my foot down.

NEW YEARS FAITHFUL – STILL GOT IT I love New Years Eve. It’s always such an interesting night. I mostly love that plans always change and what you expect from the night is always different. This year we stayed in Byron and spent heaps of money on tickets to a venue with free drinks and food. It was so worth it. I will definitely be staying here again next year. Happy New Year!

Congrats Still Got It

a w n e r e a e K D om FROM AncienTHtE Wisd er Grain Moth

DEAR KEENWA, A few of us gathered in the local park for a lazy Saturday evening barbecue last weekend, and quickly became aware of a loud buzzing sound overhead. Our aural accompaniment was not a swarm of insects but a drone. Something of a visceral reaction occurred on my part, as I witnessed said drone hover above my child and her friend several times. I confronted the man with the gear, who said he was a landscape photographer capturing scenes in 'his village'. He left very quickly after our brief conversation and shook his head at me right before climbing into his car. What would you have done? Perplexed

DEAR PERPLEXED, I took a weekend drive to a waterfall the other week to get back to nature and away from the hustle and bustle of the village. I was devastated to arrive at the same time as a carload of ten or so loud bogans who not only smoked and drank, but scream-chatted behind me on the bush trail the entire way, and despite me hurrying ahead I got to hear every. Single. Word. By the time we all got to the waterhole, I was hot and bothered. So I stripped down to my birthday suit to enjoy myself. By the time I came up for air, the bogans were gone. Instant privacy.

DEAR KEENWA, I've relocated from Perth and am really loving Byron's spiritual feels. I am learning so much! An entire universe has opened for me. Philosophies such as divine timing. That everything that is dished out to me, I asked for in order to learn some higher lesson. That everyone around me I have attracted for a spiritual contract. But I do wonder, is it possible just to hate someone sometimes because they aren't nice? Karmass

DEAR KARMASS, No, its not.

HAVE A QUESTION FOR KEENWA?

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

FROM NOW UNTIL EARLY MARCH ALL

planets of our solar system are travelling in direct motion; for us humans this is a great opportunity to move forward without detours. With four planets in ambitious Capricorn (Sun, Venus, Saturn and Pluto) the time is ripe to initiate the change that you crave and phase out any undesirable or out-dated habits. On Thursday a Venus/Neptune sextile graces us with a soft and creative vibe. A Mars/ Jupiter conjunction in Scorpio is building (exact on Sunday); it inspires courage and confidence to own up to who you truly are and to act from this place. Any relationship issues that have been simmering beneath the surface during the holiday season might erupt and demand resolution. Venus is dancing in unison with the Sun all week, but Capricorn, being a rather serious and practical sign, is not very romantic; rather it is about strategy, commitment and responsibility. This energy culminates on Wednesday when Sun, Venus and Pluto unite and form sextiles to Mars and Jupiter (in Scorpio). Unconscious urges, strong desires and internal battles may arise and erupt in serious arguments or power issues. On the upside this might lead to conscious transformation and renewed clarity. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES

The 8 of Wands indicates an incredibly busy week. You may have too many pots on your fire and not enough time to attend to all of them as well as you want to. Therefore your stress levels might be rising and you risk being argumentative. Try to catch yourself before you explode.

h TAURUS

The 10 of Swords describes the ‘wet blanket’ effect that overly negative thinking and judgement has on your overall experience this week. You might worry about relationships or finances and your habitual thoughts create great insecurity about the future, but if you just deal with what happens today, things may not look so bad after all…

i GEMINI

The Princess of Cups is ultra-sensitive to the vibes around her and rather shuns away from trouble and conflict. This week you might not be in the mood to get involved in complicated situations while socialising. Nevertheless if you do engage, your open-hearted communication may assist to resolve some abrasive moments in a gentle way.

j CANCER

The 6 of Swords represents a concentrated effort and great team spirit. You are able to navigate this week’s strange, deep and extreme undercurrents perfectly if you keep the bigger picture in mind and don’t take things too personally.

BY GISELA

k LEO

The Justice Tarot card asks you to stay impartial, balanced and centred throughout this turbulent week. You may need to take time out to gain clarity on sensitive issues, and it is extremely important to act ethically and truthfully.

l VIRGO

The 5 of Disks indicates that you may fall prey to obsessive worries this week. They take you away from the present into the past and into the future, while they sap your energy. By staying in the here and now you won’t give any power to any terrible ‘what if’ scenarios.

a LIBRA

As a master in diplomacy and with the 10 of Cups drawn you surely are having a marvellous time with friends, family and even at work. Your positive attitude and enthusiasm radiate out into the world and have a ripple effect; everyone who comes in contact with you can see and feel your light.

b SCORPIO

The Prince of Cups is a messenger; he delivers good news and you might even be granted a wish or two. This may induce more trust in yourself and the benevolent universe, which allows you to relax, be spontaneous and enjoy life to the fullest.

c SAGITTARIUS

In the diffuse light of the Moon Tarot card it looks like things are shifting shape constantly. You are on an inward journey and need time off for deep soul-searching. Reinforce your commitment to be authentically and essentially yourself, regardless of demands from others.

d CAPRICORN

The 7 of Wands encourages you to assert yourself and hold out against pressure. You might have to show that you have backbone, especially regarding your values, convictions and concerning your creative expression. Honour your vision and don’t settle for less.

e AQUARIUS

The 3 of Swords represents the tendency of your busy mind to rework the old bones of the past. This affects your every-day experience, deflates your spirit and limits your overall perspective. The attitude of gratitude for the things that do work out in your life helps you to recover and lightens your load.

f PISCES

With the 3 of Wands drawn you might feel pulled in various opposing directions. Your heart desires something else than your mind. This split makes your body tired and weary. Only make decisions once you intuit absolute alignment. You’ll know when that occurs because it feels peaceful…

This week's mantra CELEBRATE COMMON GROUND. How much of your day do you spend in resistance, in disagreement, in opposition? How much of your time do you spend looking for what’s wrong, criticising, correcting or countering? There are plenty of things to take a stand against these days. But... be discerning. Don’t become so outspoken and opinionated that you alienate yourself from connection. Polarised perspectives and critical thinking come naturally to us as humans, we’re wired to look for threats and defend ourselves. Our ego defines itself by what it is NOT. We’re comfortable living in black and white. This and that. Us and them. Wrong and right. Yes and no. But in living this way, we spend a great deal of energy creating divisions in our lives. We lean into conflict and our opinions become razor sharp, cutting through connections so that “clear” lines are drawn. It’s easier that way. But also lonelier. What if we did a little experiment and took a holiday - for an hour or a day - from the posturing and opposing? What if we listened more. What if we seized opportunities to unite rather than divide. What if we softened the blades of our opinions. What if we took things less personally. What if we asked more questions. What if we laughed a little more. What if we noticed what we have in common - and celebrated it. Sift through the moments of your day and ask yourself, are there occasions to say these words more often: “Yes” or “I agree” or “Go on, tell me more.” Are there opportunities to offer a compliment instead of pumping out criticism? Are there times when you could listen with more curiosity and compassion and less jumping-to-conclusions? Try it out and see what happens. In my experience, connection and common ground feel so much better than fussing and fighting.

This week's location TASTE OF MELAKA, BYRON BAY Heading out to Taste of Melaka in Byron Bay a dear friend, who is also a great chef, recommended the Beef Rendang, defining it as “the real deal.” Of course, she was right. Not too wet and not too try, the beef was perfectly fork tender with a nice caramelisation and loads of flavour. Taste of Melaka is a newish Malaysian restaurant on Fletcher Street near Bay Lane where there an Eat Street renaissance happening. If you hadn’t noticed, some great little eateries have slipped into the lane with Safya, Slo-Mo Joes, Duk, Lightyears and Kura topping up long standing favourites Red Hot and Green, Asia Joe’s and The Cypress Tree. And one of the best parts? The ugly waste bins from the back of the Beach Hotel have finally been screened off from diners. Three cheers for that! The menu at Taste of Melaka features dishes with authentic Chinese, Indian and Indonesian influences. Before you get to the Rendang, make sure you sample some soft and flaky roti with fillings like Spinach and Cheese and Potato Masala or a Dosa. The chickpea version is delicious and generous – be warned! Afterwards there are plenty of curries (vegetarian options) and sweet roti for dessert. Taste of Melaka is open for dinner seven nights from 5 – 10pm and lunch on weekends. The service is friendly and swift. They do takeaway as well if you’re on the go.

PLASTIC FREE Mermaid

sexy choices, sexy body, sexy oceans With Kate Nelson

Did the holidays put the mess in Christ-mess? Don’t fret, here’s how you put the maid in Mermaid. Enjoy these easy, natural, ocean friendly cleaning hacks.

GENERAL CLEANING SPRAY

Reuse an old spray bottle and fill with 1 part vinegar and 3 parts water. Vinegar disinfects, cleans, and clears odours and can be used in the kitchen, bathroom and on floors. Adding lemon rinds to soak in the vinegar for a few weeks creates antibacterial properties and also makes the mixture smell better.

SCRUBBING

Bicarb soda in an old spice shaker and a loofah. A loofah is a vegetable that can grow on a vine in your garden. Or use a coconut husk brush, steel wool or copper cloth.

DISHES

I use gentle, natural dish washing soap. I bring empty glass bottles with tight lids to the bulk shop. There are many powdered soaps that come in recyclable cardboard boxes as well. Save water by plugging the sink and save energy by washing in cold water.

RAGS

Re-purpose old newspaper to wash windows with vinegar and water spray. Tear up old t-shirts, bed sheets, towels, etc., Wash and reuse.

AIR

Plants are the best air cleaners. Open your windows to let fresh air flow through. Sexy Choices tip: If you are feeling sluggish, lethargic or if you just want to drop a kilo, clean the house. Put on some fun music and work up a sweat deep cleaning the special place you call home.

Q&A A Q U IC K C H

A T W IT H .. .

Sylvia St. Clair

YOU ARE KNOWN AS ‘THE PHYSIC TO THE STARS’. WHO HAVE YOU READ FOR? I have read for Princess Diana, Count Von Faber Castell, Christopher Lambert and many famous Australian actors and politicians.

HOW DID YOU BEGIN YOUR CAREER? I have been practising for 49 years after realising my gift as a child. I opened the first Psychic and Healing Centre in Sydney in the late 70’s, word spread and I thought; I could make a profession out of this. I have also been inducted into the Australian Psychic hall of fame for my decades of work as a Clairvoyant. WHAT SERVICES DO YOU OFFER? Well, I am a spirit medium, healer and numerologist. I also have Diploma Clinical Hypnosis. WHAT CAN PEOPLE EXPECT FROM A READING WITH YOU?

They can expect positive motivation towards their future, clarification, spiritual grounding and ways and means to fulfil what they want in their lives.

YOU ALSO RUN WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS. WHAT DO YOU TEACH? I teach Ayni and the ancient wisdoms, manifestation, mind works, positive thinking, triumph over adversity, soul intuition and Elohim. You may never need a reading again after attending one of these. You will also have a laugh; I like to think of myself as a bit of a comic.

WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO BYRON BAY? I was given divine guidance to come to Byron Bay to help inspire people.

For appointments and information about upcoming workshops call Sylvia directly on 0427 640 835
