Over in Byron on Friday, you can dine out in Sydney without leaving town thanks to the Byron at Byron, whose executive chef Matthew Kemp has teamed with chef Jonathan Barthelmess of The Apollo restaurant in Sydney to offer a four-course Mediterranean-style feast paired with St Hugo wines and a Brookie’s Gin on arrival; contact the resort on 6639 2000 for more info. Saturday brings another alternative dinner option, with The Sun Bistro hosting a chicken and chorizo paella night from 7pm. There’ll be a non-meat option for vegos, along with live music and plenty of sangria.

Next Wednesday, SBS executives Marshall Heald and Josh Martin will be dropping by Lennox Community Centre from 4:30pm-5:30pm to provide an insight into their commissioning ambitions, with pitch meetings available via application to those who attended the Screenworks’ From Idea to Pitch Ready workshop last month. Good luck!

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

ON THURSDAY MERCURY RETROGRADE

joins the Sun in Leo. This is the perfect day to revise a creative project or to impress someone, either with your skills or your charm; but be gentle if you have to talk about sensitive issues. Saturday’s New Moon brings the last solar eclipse for this year and it won’t be visible for us. This is a very fiery and rather selfconfident time; on the upside there is much enthusiasm and a generous, honourable attitude. On the downside however there may be cases of grandiose, indulgent glorifying of the self. On Monday retrograde Mars moves back into Capricorn and some issues that you were dealing with in mid-May, might come up for revision or reconsideration. Don’t despair if things are moving painfully slowly; right now all outer planets plus Mercury and Mars are in retrograde motion! The formula for success right now is putting the prefix ‘re’ before every verb or activity, e.g. re-build… A Jupiter/Neptune water trine, the third one of a series that started in December 2017, comes to a final culmination on the 19th of August and is already extremely influential. It is about allowing your intuition and feelings to flow, in the most creative, healing and transformative way possible. The profound retrograde flavour invites you to take time to dive deep into your own psyche and search for meaning and fulfilment, often however via a detour through illusions and disappointments. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

The Moon Tarot card warns of illusions, confusion and maybe deception. You might think you see clearly but your perceptions might be clouded by your beliefs, judgements and your unconscious drives more than you acknowledge. This inward time is perfect for deep soul searching...

h TAURUS

The Prince of Swords provides accurate self-knowledge and inspires change. You have taken time to analyse your situation, you know your motives and you are now ready to transform your new insights into a new way of life. The slow pace of this week might be very helpful because it reassures you that you are on the right track.

i GEMINI

k LEO

c SAGITTARIUS

l VIRGO

d CAPRICORN

With the 8 of Swords drawn you might be plagued by inner tumult and doubts. During such a time it is best to wait things out, consider different options as if they were new clothes you are trying on but not buying yet… Most important: don’t push yourself into any premature action!

The Knight of Swords has no time to waste; he moves forward with an unstoppable urgency and with absolute certainty. If you can align your mind, heart and action in this way, you know your direction. You are focused and determined; therefore you’ll succeed.

a LIBRA

The Emperor represents the archetype of male leadership and power. This week you might find a piece of your own puzzle. It’s about how to make empowered decisions that are showing clear boundaries while creating win/win situations. All executed in an elegant and benevolent way.

With the 2 of Swords drawn you prefer sitting on the fence for a while. Not a bad option for this week! Your peace of mind might be dearer to you than speaking your absolute truth and rocking someone’s boat. You’ll know when you can’t ignore your feelings anymore and when you’ll have to make a stand…

j CANCER

b SCORPIO

The 5 of Disks indicates that an old habit of negative thinking and imagining worst case scenarios, might creep up on you unnoticed, put you in a gloomy mood and start to be self-fulfilling. As soon as you notice it, apply a good dose of gratitude for the things that are going well in your life and move on.

BY GISELA

The Knight of Cups brings good news, a gift or an opportunity. Whether you are on the giving or receiving side, it is most important to stay open and gracious. Trust your initial impulses and don’t allow your ego to take the lead.

Other people can easily take advantage of the Knight of Disks’ practical and hands-on qualities; hence he is often overworked and underpaid. He suffers from exhaustion and feels drained at times. If that is you this week, take a break, recharge your batteries and ask for what you are worth.

With the 7 of Cups drawn a feeling of emptiness might persist, even if you work hard and try to keep up with your goals and expectations of yourself. If depletion is setting in, don’t soldier on; take a break, reconsider your options and reconnect with your emotional needs.

e AQUARIUS

Mars retrograde in your sign, in combination with the Princess of Cups drawn, might make you ultrasensitive to your environment and the vibes around you. You might not want to show your vulnerability to others, but if you do, your relationships improve dramatically.

f PISCES

With the 7 of Disks drawn your actions might be fuelled by trying to avoid trouble. This does not leave much room to go for what you really want, and gives you only a small spectrum to move in. This is a good time to take stock and ponder alternatives.

DEAR KEENWA, My wife and I moved here from Melbourne a few months ago, and sadly she wants us to separate. We've only been married six months! Word on the street, is that this is what happens in this town eventually. She's the love of my life, how can I prevent such superstition? - Newlywed Nightmare

DEAR NEWLYWED NIGHTMARE, Before Byron was Byron it was Cavanbah to the first nations people, which is said to mean meeting place. In modern times that literally means Swedish backpackers. Meaning meet ups are as common as breakups, which are as common as pregnancies. It is also said by I'm not sure who that this is a healing place, and that when you are done with your healing journey, you must also heal others if you'd like to stay, which would explain the flock of pilgrims that come here seeking enlightenment. But don't be fooled by the all white attire and Indian chanting, they're just trying to keep their woman.

DEAR KEENWA, IRONING PROFESSIONALLY DONE

Affordable prices start as little as $45 for a min. 2HRS when you just can't find time to get your ironing done. Please call Cris on 0406 135 820

I'm having a social media break so I thought I'd hit up a dying art form, letter-writing. Guh, can't believe I can't post a pic of a typewriter right now. I don't know anyone else who reads them; so how have you been? Is the Keenwa family well? What other unusual behaviours should I expect from this time? Enlightened Screen

DEAR ENLIGHTENED SCREEN, Oh, I don't know, a return to the old school habit of gratitude, irl connection, productivity and genuine contentment? But the best part? Potentially engaging with the abundant beauty of life like its 1985, AKA before it was a hashtag, and an actual real thing? You do know there is another device you can check in with, moment to moment that doesn't involve scrolling? It's about ten centimetres under your chin, over to the left...See with all that spare time, you can have a listen to it.

This week's mantra LET IT BE AN EXPERIMENT

Here’s a recipe for a predictable life: Play it safe. Stick to the rules. Hang close to what’s been tried and tested. Insist on particular outcomes. Deem all other conclusions a failure. Or. Let it be an experiment. All of it. The relationship. The painting. The poem. The partnership. The business idea. The meditation. To experiment is to be captivated by the joy and playfulness of possibility. To have the courage to tune to your instincts, sift through the possibilities and commit to just one (for now). To detach yourself from outcomes and emancipate yourself from the confinement of expectation, bias or judgment. To have the willingness to watch what unfolds with wonder, open yourself to seeing the unseen and welcome revelation. The best experiments aren’t engineered to produce an outcome. They’re bold leaps, fortified with intention. They’re derived of curiosity, not expectation. They test ideas and trust that the truth remains to be seen. They are a process of discovery, not a mission with a marching orders and a map. Experimentation is an opportunity, not an obligation. If the experiment fails, you’re not a failure. Because the purpose was not to produce an outcome. The purpose was the process of discovery. An audacious adventure designed by a curious mind, executed with a courageous heart, fuelled by a daring spirit. My advice? Throw out the rules. Blow off the hedged bets and calculated expectations. Choose the mystery. Head toward the uncharted waters. Feel the electrical charge created by fear and possibility - that marriage of opposites that make up the Unknown. Embrace that giddiness of discovery. Brew up big ideas. Mine your instincts. Arm yourself with wonder. Give it a go. Let your life be an experiment, a love affair with curiosity and courage.

This week's review

TITLE: When Life Gives You Lululemons AUTHOR: Lauren Weisber NUMBER OF PAGES: 352 EST. READ TIME: 7 hours and 9 minutes PRICE: $17.20 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: The sequel to the successful book

(and film) ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, Emily Charlton is a successful PR guru who begins to lose high profile clients to a competitor. In a bid to outsmart her competition she finds the PR disaster of all PR disasters and attempts to fix the mess herself.

WHO IT'S FOR: Those who enjoy some glamour, celebrity and mummy drama. If you enjoyed Big Little Lies or Little Fires Everywhere you’ll love this book. WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: You don’t have to have read The Devil Wears Prada to appreciate or understand what’s going on in its sequel. The book only makes small and insignificant references to the prequel, meaning it’s an entertaining stand-alone read. This is the kind of book you should read by the pool on holiday with a cocktail in hand. A bit of mindless trash never hurt anybody - easy and frighteningly funny. NOTABLE QUOTE: “Emily followed her into the blindingly

white lacquered kitchen where a uniformed Hispanic woman stood in front of a Starbucks-level espresso machine. ‘Clara, could we each get a flat white with a shot of Baileys, please?’ If Clara thought it was even a tiny bit strange that these two professional women were requesting a spiked coffee at three in the afternoon, she gave no indication. The woman expertly prepared their drinks and led them to a white leather couch that looked directly out at the spectacular view.”

PLASTIC FREE Mermaid Healthy choices, healthy body, healthy oceans With Kate Nelson

GREENWASHING Greenwashing is defined as “the use of marketing to portray an organisation's products, activities or policies as environmentally friendly when they are not.” As “sustainability” becomes trendy, beware organic packaging and eco adjectives. We live in a world of infinite options; it is easy to choose the “green” option at the giant stores. However these claims are often unregulated bullshit. If you care about the impact of your consumption, switch on your awareness. Get more involved than just one stop shopping and crossing off the list. Vote with your dollar. Don’t buy into it. We have to look deeper. Do the research. Ask more questions. If something is branded with the recycling chasing arrows, it does not mean that it will actually be recycled into something of the same or even lesser quality. Our recycling system is currently broken— yes, being worked on, but not fixed yet—so we cannot rely on this as our excuse for all the plastics. If it looks and feels like plastic, it will probably act like plastic in the environment. If it is marketed as natural, check the ingredients and if they are not printed on the packaging, get skeptical. If a product claims to be sustainable, ask how, why, and what will happen to it wherever it ends up. If there is no better option, then accept this is as the best option for now. Create a search party to track down the superior solution. Good vibes, plastic free tips and to sign up for my How to Quit Plastic book go to iquitplastics.com or @plasticfreemermaid

Q&A A Q U IC K C H

A T W IT H .. .

ADVERTISE HERE 0487 003 765 Maria Nilsson @ATMOSEA_

WHAT IS ATMOSEA ALL ABOUT? We are more than just

surf wear with comfort, practically and flair. We also want you to embrace and express your differences through creating a nurturing and accepting community for all female surfers.

HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR BRAND’S PHILOSOPHY SPEAKS TO NOT ONLY FEMALE SURFERS BUT TO ALL SURFERS? I

think we all want to be a part of a community, so to create a brand that promotes an open, welcoming atmosphere that encourages positivity… well, who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON WOMEN BEING PAID LESS PRIZE MONEY THAN MEN IN COMPETITIVE SURFING?

Surfing is a male dominated sport, but women surf the same ocean, same boards, same amount of difficulty with the same passion, I really hope it changes soon.

ADVICE FOR THOSE WHO ARE INTIMIDATED TO START SURFING?

Everyone is a beginner at the start, I think it’s important to remember that. Round up some fun-loving friends, find some small, uncrowded waves and get out there! COMFORT OR STYLE? THOUGHTS? Why not both? My thoughts are that once you put on your super comfy and stylish wetsuit or swimmers, you should feel like you’re putting on a superpower suit that makes you become your glowing, powerful self!

WHAT’S YOUR NUMBER ONE EMBARRASSING SURF MOMENT? Bondi beach, busy day, I ran toward the

water with my leg-rope on, tripped and landed face first. Everyone burst out in laughter, but also asked if I was OK. I quickly stood up, red in my face with my tail between my legs and went for a surf anyway.

WHERE DO YOU DRAW INSPIRATION FROM TO CREATE SUCH BRILLIANT SURF SUITS? Nature is a huge inspiration, as well as the female figure in all shapes and sizes.
