The Northern is the place to be if you’re keen to catch a gig on Saturday night, with Melbourne rockers Kingwood returning to Byron, and bringing Triple J Unearthed starlet Mane along for the ride. Be there for 9pm ($35; thenorthern. com.au). Then start the week right with a Mexican feed in Suffolk Park, now with two options to choose from! Following the opening of Chupacabra last month, Suffolk pub has launched Mexican Fiesta Mondays. Drop in from 5pm for $5 Tecate cans and $12 margaritas, Tex-Mex favourites and free kids meals. On Wednesday evening, the Brunswick Picture House will be hosting a cracker of a fundraiser for the Northern Rivers Community Foundation, including a lively Q&A on the challenge of developing jobs in the creative industries for local youth hosted by the ABC’s Kerry O’Brien, a silent auction of local goodies, and LOLs courtesy of comedian host MC Ilona Harker. There’ll also be plenty of Stone & Wood beers and Fox Creek Wines going ‘round. In other words, $50 well spent (tickets via Eventbrite).

SMALL BYRON ACTS We are attached to convenience. We are dependent on plastic making our lives easier. The media has helped bring the waste crisis to the global consciousness. Subsequently most humans with access to the Internet are now aware of the problem. This does not mean they care about the devastating impact of these single-use items. No concern for creatures they probably consider adorable, whose very lives are now threatened by our mounting waste. No care for the fish increasingly found with bellies full of plastic. No time or space to give a dam about communities or entire countries where pollution is corrupting drinking water and air. Not even aware as the sides of roads and parks start to resemble tips or their car fills up with plastic bottles and containers. Plastic has taken over. Grown humans forget what they did in their childhood instead of plastic bags lining bins. Repairing clothing is completely foreign to busy youth caught up in changing out the wardrobe with the fast pace of fashion. Families shrugging around the waste created in the wake of their children as if it was not done any differently fifty years ago. There is a better way. It existed before some of our time, but it is not entirely forgotten. We are extremely lucky in Byron to co-create a smidgen of genuine conscious living. Slow. Present. Thoughtful. So many of us make our own deodorant and blend our own nut milk, grow plants and bake bread. These are the habits and choices that will inspire the rest. Lucky y’all make it look so sexy too. training with Matthew Kenney (now PlantLab) a plant based culinary school online and in America. I'd say that, my high standards, perfectionism and never-ending thirst for knowledge. I also taught Matthew Kenney's pop up school for a month in Sydney last year.
WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST CREATION? Shumai Dumplings, that a fellow student and I crafted together for our popup dinner we ran in New York as a part of our culinary training in level 4 (highest level with PlantLab).
