LOOKING FOR SOME WEEKEND

music manoeuvres? Then start your Friday night with a beer in hand and the Gritty Blues Machine at the Brewery before seeking out the local muso talents of Adam Harpaz, The Swamps and Jack Tully who are all making noise around Byron. There’s shopping to be had on Saturday, with the Bangalow Designers Market returning to Bangalow Public School from 8am-3pm, with plenty of local fashion, arts and crafts, food and music on offer.

If you fancy a flick, the one to catch this week is Ranger to Ranger, a heartwarming documentary that follows the epic journey of nine Indigenous Australian Rangers, along with acclaimed Indigenous musician Dan Sultan, as they travel to Kenya to share knowledge, culture and music with a group of Maasai Community Rangers. The film (tickets $30) rolls from 5:15pm, followed by a Q&A with Maasai Ranger Joseph Kotoke and Australian rangers.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

ON FRIDAY MERCURY CATCHES UP WITH

the Sun in late Virgo and both slip into balanced and sociable Libra during the weekend. This is a time for great connections and conversations. But the pair also forms an opposition to Chiron, the wounded healer, who is on his retrograde journey at zero degree in heroic and pioneering Aries. If you feel disconnected and disengaged, great emotional pain may well up. Sun and Mercury are also in a strenuous aspect with Saturn in Capricorn. Negative thoughts and judgements may take a tax on your overall wellbeing or selfworth. In reaction to that you may feel the need to prove yourself or fall into a hole of self-loathing. If you feel off centre, take the opportunity for a healing session to find new balance and direction; Sunday to Wednesday are excellent days for exactly that. On Monday Mercury teams up with Mars and forms an air trine which supports finding a fresh perspective on well-known problems that may increase your decisiveness and willingness to act. Tuesday’s Full Moon is under great tension from Saturn and conjunct Chiron who retrogrades into Pisces only hours after the Moon enters Aries. For some this Full Moon time might bring up loneliness, disconnection and inner conflict. Take great care of each other and extend your kindness to people you don’t know. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

IRONING PROFESSIONALLY DONE

g ARIES

With the Full Moon in your sign and the Prince of Disks drawn, you are challenged to muster patience and perseverance in situations that almost make you fly off your handle. Prepare yourself for difficulties that you see coming with a little strategic thinking and if possible stick to the tried and true.

h TAURUS

The Magician lends his great set of skills to you: right focus, communication, timing and action. Equipped with these you see opportunities where others see problems and you may produce magical and truly innovative results. Your creative powers are at an alltime high!

i GEMINI

The 4 of Wands indicates the completion of a project or even a whole phase of your life and also heralds new beginnings and possibilities. Take some time over the Full Moon phase to celebrate your achievements and evaluate your success, before you rush off towards your next exciting mission.

j CANCER

The Ace of Swords offers you the gift of precise perception and assists you to cut through any confusion, moods or doubts. Your mental clarity leads to new and profound insights which you willingly apply for the benefit of all involved. Your objectivity might be very helpful for resolving a difficult situation in your family or at work.

Affordable prices start as little as $45 for a min. 2HRS when you just can't find time to get your ironing done. Please call Cris on 0406 135 820

c SAGITTARIUS

l VIRGO

d CAPRICORN

With the Queen of Cups drawn you might long for soothing nature and quiet places. They provide the space that allows you to drop into your heart-centre and thus explore all kinds of feelings and accept them. As an act of self-nurturing, take time off from any business during the Full Moon, or at least during the weekend.

The 2 of Disks comes as a reminder of the fact that the only constant thing is change, and you have the choice to embrace or resist it. The more you can go with the flow during this week, you’ll find that you actually can have some fun in times of changing circumstances. Some situations you were not prepared for might work out perfectly.

a LIBRA

The 6 of Cups represents wonderfully fulfilling relationships and acts of kindness. You might be THE person in your inner circle of family or friends that can make a difference this week! The way you radiate joy, playfulness and spontaneous goodwill, warms their hearts and lifts their spirits. This is especially true for interactions with children.

b SCORPIO

The 8 of Wands indicates a flurry of connections, actions and reactions that keep you breathless and restless during this week. You thrive on the quick pace and might feel intoxicated by new decisiveness. An opportunity to solve a long-standing problem or obstacle might present itself.

CENTRAL BYRON OFFICE AVAILABLE:

The 8 of Disks paints a picture of order and attention to detail, that results in harvest, fruitfulness or the solution you are seeking. This week it is a matter of making a concentrated effort towards understanding the cause and effect of underlying issues that present themselves, and sorting these out with patience and diligence.

The Ace of Wands is a symbol for the enormous force and fiery passion that dwell within you. They need to be channelled into a worthwhile project otherwise the creative power inherent may turn destructive. This may be a truly inspiring, expansive and enthusiastic time!

e AQUARIUS

The Knight of Disks is typically exhausted, overworked and most likely under-paid or under-valued. You might feel pressured to reconsider your goals, your ethics and the way you apply yourself. Don’t be hard on yourself, which is easy to do this week, and investigate if it is time to move on or ask for more.

f PISCES

The Hierophant Tarot card represents the path of the mystic and the fact that his true value shows by the way he responds to every-day situations. Your interactions with the world must be aligned with your ethics, wisdom and knowledge; this is how you teach and inspire profoundly.

Share with local interior designer in our private office at the Future Dreamers house on Marvel street. We have a desk available for 2-3 days per week. contact: julie@whitewood.agency or 0400 441 981

MANGO NUTELLA COFFEE

DEAR KEENWA, I met the most amazing gal in the surf last summer. We locked eyes in the line-up, had a few party waves, ran into each other in the carpark, and the rest is history. Well, until the leaves began to turn brown, and the summer northerly stopped blowing. She went AWOL. Winter has been hard. But with Spring here, it's like I can sense her in the air, do you think she'll surface? - Seasoned Sam

DEAR SEASONED SAM, We all feel a little more sociable when Summer gets here. And damn, we are looking more fine too – post salty session glow, sprinkle of freckles on the nose. But... these sun kisses come with a warning. Askmen. com described a freckler as someone who, rather than coming out of nowhere and then disappearing forever, is happy to come from and then return to the periphery of your life, not staying, but not exactly leaving, either, just going dark for the colder months. Remember to slip, slop, slap.

I walked around Brunz for a good hour last weekend, chatting happily with my local community of activists, baristas, and flower farmers; as you do. The problem is, when I arrived home I noticed I had a significantly large black item wedged between my front teeth, yet nobody had told me. Okay or not okay? - Elephant in the Room

DEAR ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM, And these people call themselves a community? How do they expect to stop Adani if they are this polite? Where were their voices when you needed them the most? And if they can't notice an infiltration of organic matter in your teeth, how they gunna spot some non-biodynamic lifter on their proteas? How are they going to go out on a limb and say no to fluoride if they can't say yes to your clearly corrupted smile?

With Caitlin Cady

This week's mantra

LET ME BE AN OCEAN OF UNDERSTANDING Endow me with patience. Widen the aperture of my perspective. Soothe in me the reflex of blame, that part of me that wants to relieve pain with the release of a roar and an accusatory arrow. Let me lay down the blades of judgement and be with what is here. Help me smooth out the rough edges and melt the sharpness into gentle curves. Soften my barriers and fortify my boundaries. Stitch the threads of benevolence into the quilt of my being. Steep my cells in the tones of compassion. Reconnect my fractured grace. Tune me to harmony. Place my confidence in kindness. Tap out a rhythm of goodness. Drum it into my bones so I know the truth when I feel it. Let me be an ocean of understanding for others to dive into. Let my presence be a portal for peace. Let me build a fire of forgiveness for us to gather around. Let me forgive fully. Let me love fiercely.

Holiday tips with Mamma of two, Lexi Blake @LEXIBLAKE BEST KEPT SECRET FOR KID ENTERTAINMENT? Discovery Park is Feather's favourite and a great place for kids birthday parties also.

FAVOURITE PLACE TO TAKE THE KIDS FOR A MEAL? Fish Heads is quick and easy and also has great salads for mums!

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN THEIR BORED? If

anyone gets bored we jump in the car and head up to the lighthouse.

IS THERE ONE SONG YOU LOVE PLAYING TO THE KIDS? Everyone in our family likes

different music. Usually Bijoux, our two-year old will ask Feather to make up songs for her.

EASIEST AND SAFEST THING FOR THEM TO COOK? Toast! Fresh toast, usually from Sustainable Bakery, with heaps of butter

and the perfect amount of vegemite.

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS ARE HARD SOMETIMES – WHAT HELPS? Beach missions are the best!

There is always so much to discover in the sea and on the sand and in rock pools.

MOST EMBARRASSING MUM MOMENT?

The moment I realised I was lost deep in the bush with my two girls looking for a waterfall only to get lost twice more before finding our friends at the waterfall who were wondering why we had taken so long.

BEST OUT OF TOWN SPOT? (WITHOUT GIVING AWAY TOO MANY SECRETS) Lake

Ainsworth is a fun little spot out of town in Lennox. FAVOURITE KIDS CLOTHING BRAND? Rock Your Baby is my girls favourite.

BOOKS FOR Y

This week's review

TITLE: Sweetbitter AUTHOR: Stephanie Danler NUMBER OF PAGES: 288 EST. READ TIME: 7 hours and 11 minutes PRICE: $16.80 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: When Tess, a twenty two year

old young woman, moves to New York City she is escaping a motherless home and embracing an opportunity to live life much bigger. In her quest for something new she stumbles upon a waitressing job at one of New York’s famous restaurants. There, she learns that behind the smoke and mirrors of the silver service world there are dramas brewing and an identity crisis of her own about to unfold.

The perfect Christmas gift...

WHO IT'S FOR: Foodies or anyone who has ever worked in hospitality. It’ll bring home some fun memories of carrying three plates at a time!

WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: For anyone who enjoys food

as much as I do this book makes food sound sexy. On every page there’s an opportunity for your mouth to water at Stephanie Danler’s descriptions of fresh produce, oysters and french rose. Tantalisingly good.

a piece of parsnip around the plate with her fork. “I don’t think you should be lied to about it. You have a moment of relevancy—when the books, clothes, bars, technology—when everything is speaking directly to you, expressing you exactly. You move toward the edge of the circle and then you’re abruptly outside the circle. Now what to do with that? Do you stay, peering backward? Or do you walk away?”

RAILWAY WONDERL AND & DREAML AND

Remember when local markets used to be filled with real curiosities? Back before they were all jammed with the same clothing brands? The idea of spending a morning wondering around one is still tempting, but the reality can be a little underwhelming nowadays. Well, what if there was a market that’d been carefully curated, so each of the stallholders had the perfect mix of cars, motor bikes, surf, skate and musical gold on offer, plus all the registration money raised was going to a great cause such as the Disabled Surfers Association who will receive over $500 from the day. How can you not go! Interested in grabbing a stall, email info@mrsimple. com.au for details.

Correction: Bangalow Designer's Market is on Saturday 22nd September, 8am to 3pm (not on Sunday as printed last week)

Q&A A Q U IC K C H

Frankie Otto Schaufler

A T W IT H .. .

@FRANKIE.GOD.OF.HAIR

HOW IS HAIRCUTTING CREATIVE FOR YOU? For me it is sculpture. I see the shape and I reveal the creation. Each client is treated as an individual and I take into account lifestyle, face shape and personality. If they request a dance, I have plenty of funk and kraut in my moves.

HOW DO YOU THINK CUTTING HAIR IN MULLUMBIMBY WOULD DIFFER FROM, SAY, BANGALOW? In Bimby Land,

we ‘Rock’ and we ‘Roll’. Each day is never the same. It gives my Bangalow clients a holiday destination!

MOST MEMORABLE HAIR CUT? In my Dad’s salon when I was two years old.

WHAT’S THE STRANGEST OFFER YOU HAVE EVER HAD? I went to a Barber in India. After the shave & head massage I was offered a ‘happy ending’.....

WHERE DID YOU GROW UP AND WHAT WAS IT LIKE? Black

Forest, Germany. I was surrounded by lederhosen wearing Master Yodelers. I did grow up in my Dad’s Hair Salon. He inspired me with his contemporaries, who he trained with, Vidal Sassoon and Joshua Galvin.

HIKING OR SAILING? Hiking and driving my VW Beatle. I am a Nature Boy, I love camping with my family. We hike and we sail.

HAD ANY CRAZY IDEAS ABOUT WHAT TO DO WITH HAIR SCRAPS? Creating a massive afro hair sculpture in the round about in Bimby Land and building a Hair Home for my family as an alternative to Hemp.

GOT ANY ADVICE FOR PEOPLE WANTING TO SHAVE THEIR HEAD? Yes, I do, pop down to the shop. It is all about getting the part balanced! It is about the full experience. You can feel hot towels, wet shave and a rejuvenating head massage. All whilst unwinding to funky Stevie Wonder on vinyl. Men and Women, pop on down to Mullumbimby and visit the team at Frankie God Of Hair for a pampering you wont regret.
