leather goods in your life? Then don’t miss Stitch & Hide’s fifth birthday sale at the brand’s Centennial Circuit HQ this evening. Head on over between 4pm and 7pm to pick up a veg-tanned bargain, sink a free Stone & Wood beer, and grab a Pango’s hotdog (or two). Don’t forget to bring cash. On Sunday, Habitat will be offering a different kind of shopping experience, with everything but clothes (think bikes, skateboards, surf gear, and more) up for sale at its Thrash & Treasure flea market from 9am to 3pm.

On Sunday night, Byron Theatre is the place to be (unless you’re under 18), with radical interactive performance troupe La Pocha Nostra due to present Psycho-Magic Rituals Against Violence at 7:30pm. Designed to offer ‘a series of live art psycho-magic rituals to combat the culture of hate’, the show ($28; byroncentre.com.au) should be an interesting one.

DEAR KEENWA, My Mrs wants to break-up. I'm pretty sure she's just going through a stage of wanting what all her single mum friends have. I mean all they do is, sit on the beach all day right? They're seriously breaking our economy by having kids on welfare and cashing in on that baby bonus. It's like Byron is having an epidemic. How to talk sense in to her? - Baby Byron Dadda

DEAR BABY BYRON DADDA, Yes! They are a radical bunch of beachcombers if I ever saw some, realising that we are no longer in the 1950s, that the days of tolerating snoring, and intermarital misogyny, and slavery to their hubbie's wage are gone. And don't even start me on the damaged children of these bludgers; Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Ryan Gosling, Dr Dre, Justin Bieber, and Michael Phelps, whilst you were whinging to your local rag, they were all being raised by single mums.

DEAR KEENWA, I work in a bar and sometimes I have to deal with some drunk idiots. How do I handle it when a customer is rude...without losing my job? - Piss Peddler

DEAR PISS PEDDLER, I’m assuming since you work in a bar, you know how to rock a super fresh mullet and look really good in Levi’s. The thing is though, do you practice your roundhouses often? My advice is to wind down your shift with a few carefully rehearsed kicks behind the bar to let the patrons know who is boss. Obviously to keep the real boss happy as well as your whiskey allowance, you need to remember to be nice... until it's time not to be nice. Then by all means rip the throat out of the pissy customer with your bare hands, and not only will you keep the establishment in order, you’ll have dear old Patrick Swayze fist pumping from his grave.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

CHIRON, THE ARCHETYPE OF THE

wounded healer, just slipped back into Pisces where he resides until the end of February; it will be 50 years before he comes back to the same position! In the sign of the Fishes he is extremely sensitive to the environment, all vibrational matters and other sentient beings’ suffering. Collectively we have the chance to find our divine connection and experience oneness, even in a less than perfect world. On a personal level you might be able to confront and heal old, fear-based and inhibiting patterns. An airtrine between Sun and Mars (exact on Friday) fosters beautiful and unconventional ideas or inventions. It gives you plenty of get-up-andgo and inspires dynamic leadership; what a great time to further an ambitious project! Tuesday is a very intense day; frustration and inner tension may lead to a painful encounter or bad judgement of a situation. A Mercury/Pluto square is building (exact on Wednesday); it amplifies deep, but often obsessive and disturbing thoughts. If you get bogged down in an intense and probing discussion, try to convince another person or insist on proving your point, it is best to let go for now and spend some time alone, focusing on your inner peace. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES

The Ace of Cups symbolises the great gift of whole-heartedness. You may experience the world around you in a profound and new way. Things and events that you used to judge as black or white appear in a different light and you are increasingly able to see the good in any situation.

h TAURUS

The Prince of Cups represents the lover within; he is very much in touch with his deep, internal life. He nudges you to not only focus on all the practical things on your ‘to-do list’, but also make time for creative, romantic and purely pleasurable pursuits that nourish your soul.

i GEMINI

The Wheel of Fortune presents an opportunity for growth and positive change. Especially on Friday a breakthrough is possible. Be surprised and enchanted by new ideas or an ‘aha moment’ that expands your vision and alters your present course in an exciting way.

j CANCER

The Hermit Tarot card suggests time alone as the most productive way to deal with any overwhelming stress this week. A bit of r&r in solitude allows you the time and space to reconnect with the true you and your natural inner guidance.

BY GISELA

k LEO

Even though the Princess of Cups represents a very feminine, sensitive and vulnerable energy, she is also very strong and intelligent in her emotional response to any situation. She thinks with her heart and invites you to do the same. As your heart expands, jealousy, pride or manipulation naturally fall away.

l VIRGO

The Sun Tarot card brightens and enlightens your week! It emphasises the creative process that is born out of fun and play, rather than too much thinking and analysis. Some simple pleasures may teach you more this week than any self-help book could! Go for it!

a LIBRA

The 5 of Wands appears when you have lost your creative flow and things start to feel like an uphill struggle. Feeling limited, restricted or restrained does not sit well with you, and your resistance or frustration might make things worse. Find ways to let loose without hurting anyone, including yourself.

d CAPRICORN

The earthy groundedness of the 8 of Disks resonates perfectly with your own philosophy: make a diligent, concentrated effort, apply yourself totally and success is a given. This week you might be able to harvest the fruits of some of your hard work and it is time to rejoice.

e AQUARIUS

The 8 of Swords represents the doubtful, paralysing state of mind that makes it impossible to come to clear conclusions. You might find yourself confronted with a dilemma that does not offer you a satisfying solution. Your best option might be to wait things out a little bit longer…

The 3 of Disks represents a powerful drive that can move mountains. It is yours when your mind, heart and action are absolutely aligned and when you have no doubt about your goals, direction and road to success. Friday may bring you the opportunity and inspiration you need.

b SCORPIO

f PISCES

The 5 of Disks symbolises difficult times and too much worry about things that you can’t change or control. Don’t get lost in worst-case ‘what-if’ scenarios. You might think that it helps you to prepare and stay safe in uncertain times, but it actually depletes your energy. Stay in the moment as much as you can and be grateful for the things that work out for you.

#BYRONBAZAAR 4 BYRON BAZAAR

c SAGITTARIUS

The 4 of Cups describes a dreamy or vague state of mind and heart; this makes it difficult to know what you really want, and everything in front of you might feel a bit stale and two-dimensional. The attitude of gratitude may help you to catapult yourself out of this haze and to find more inspiration.

This week's mantra PHONE DOWN, FACE UP

Let’s talk about Instagram. The pandemic levels of anxiety created by those little squares is Off.The.Charts you guys. And it seems no one is immune to it. Teenagers, retirees, and everyone in between seem to be left with a deafening sense of not-enough after a scroll sesh. I have a lot to say on this topic, but let’s start with three reminders. 1. Don’t let your digitised-self take the driver’s seat and drink drive your real-life self-worth into a ditch. You aren’t supposed to be anyone other than you. So, don’t “post to be” someone other than who you really are. Your real life is good enough. The real you is good enough. There is no airbrushed, two dimensional, counterfeit substitute of yourself that could ever surpass the shimmering, vulnerable, animate, authentic you. So, don’t throw out the quirks and idiosyncrasies, the things that make you, you. Remember, the extent to which we are willing to share our imperfections determines our capacity for intimacy and belonging. I’m not saying you have to lay out all of your demons, heartaches and insecurities, square by square. I’m just saying, don’t let the possibility of judgment and notenough-ness censor the things you share. Granted, you’re not for everyone. But the more authentically you share, the more likely you are to connect with the people who truly resonate with you, your kindred spirits.

2. I, for one, am down with the stylised feed. But mind the gap. Stop comparing your behind-the-scenes to someone else’s highlight reel. Yes, it is a highlight reel. Don’t get it twisted. 3. Pay attention to how much you’re choosing your instalife over your real life. Be mindful that you’re not so busy watching your life unfold through frames and filters that you miss the moments of true connection. Make sure the mantra “phone down, face up” is in heavy rotation.

The

Mammas S PAPPA THE

AND

Holiday tips with Daisy Sekulla @DAISY_DONT BEST SPOT TO TAKE THE KIDS FOR A PLAY? The beach – any beach or Bruns river, high and low tide.

FAVOURITE CHILD FRIENDLY RESTAURANT?

Depends on the kids, but the Three Blue Ducks or Top Shop.

HOW TO MAKE FRIENDS WITH PARENTS? Get your kids friendly first. Otherwise through school, at cafés, the markets – start a chat.

IS THERE ONE SONG YOU LOVE PLAYING TO THE KIDS? Old McDonald is on repeat in our house at the moment. Otto (our son) is obsessed with e,o,e,i,o.

WHAT IS SOMETHING ONLY PARENTS KNOW? How to survive sleepless nights and do it all again the next day with the same unwavering love and patience.

12 BYRON BAZAAR

BEST SNACK? Blueberries, bliss balls or seaweed crackers.

MOST EMBARRASSING MUM MOMENT?

Having my son finger his own dirty nappy while being pushed around in a trolley at Coles and not realising until it was everywhere.

BEST OUT OF TOWN SPOT? (WITHOUT GIVING AWAY TOO MANY SECRETS) Doma is fairly well known and a great spot for the kids after a bush walk.

FAVOURITE

KIDS

CLOTHING

BRAND?

Vinnies always has the best finds but if we’re being specific then Nature Baby from NZ.

OUR BEACH B

BOOKS FOR Y

This week's review

TITLE: Wedding Toasts I’ll Never Give AUTHOR: Ada Calhoun NUMBER OF PAGES: 192 EST. READ TIME: 3 hours and 27 minutes PRICE: $19.60 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: This is Ada Calhoun’s memoir about

the highs and lows of marriage. She deep dives into her own relationship as well as recounting her experience of other’s marriages. Through it’s contents she investigates what makes a good marriage, why partners find each other so frustrating and the secret to sticking it out in a modern world.

WHO IT'S FOR: Married people !!! WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: It’s always refreshing to

read raw and honest writing about another’s real life relationships. To spell out home truths is a brave thing to do. This book is a hilarious nod to the realities of sharing your life with another and what marriage actually means in the 21st century, with divorce rates at an all-time high and the introduction of casual dating.

NOTABLE QUOTE: “The day after a wedding, even if

nothing but the jewellery appears different - you’re keeping your names, you already shared a home, a bed, friends - something important has changed. From then on, everyday you stay, you keep that vow. By staying married, we give something to ourselves and to others: hope. Hope that in steadfastly loving someone, we ourselves, for all our faults, will be loved; that the broken world will be made whole. To hitch your rickety wagon to the flickering star of another fallible human being - what an insane thing to do. What a burden, and what a gift.”

This week's review written by Jessie Hilton @jessieahilton

SaVe E DAT THE

Byron Bay Brewery 1st Birthday Party 29TH SEPTEMBER 8PM

The Byron Bay Brewery is having a party to celebrate them turning one. It’s a free event, which is just amazing because there is so many great bands and musicians playing, such as Bugs, The Violent Monks, Sophie Ozard and Seaside. If you haven’t seen Seaside or Sophie Ozard play yet, you best do yourself a favour, as their melodic magic will take you to places you never knew you could go to on a casual Saturday night out at the Brewery. See you there! For more info head to: byronbaybrewery.com.au

Byron Bay Lighthouse Run 2018 14TH OCTOBER 6AM - 9AM

If you haven’t walked the infamous lighthouse route in Byron yet, then you may as well just sign up to run it. Call me bias, but I really do think this walk hosts some of the most beautiful views in the world, and if there’s an opportunity to partake in one of the most scenic fun runs ever, I reckon take it! There is an option to either run the 10km or walk 6km, so anyone can do it. This will be the 12th year running (see what I did there) and it's always for a good cause, supporting Our Kids in Lismore and Samantha Bulmer, who has one hell of a story which is available to read along with ticketing info at: byronbaylighthouserun.com.au

Jess Riddell

A T W IT H .. .

FACEBOOK.COM/JHMOBILELAWYERS

TELL US ABOUT BEING A MOBILE LAWYER? It’s great – I get to jump in my car and get out of the office. Meeting clients in more relaxed environment. It’s a win/win for all.

HOW DID LAW EVENTUATE INTO STUDYING NURSING? I’ve

been practising law since 2010 in Byron but I’ve always really enjoyed helping the older, more vulnerable people in our community and so I started volunteering at a local aged care village. I feel more fulfilled being able to help those people on differing levels.

DO YOU PLAN ON COMBINING THE TWO SOMEHOW? They are two different parts of my life. I am a lawyer and I am a nurse. But I am many other things as well.

GOT ANY FUNNY ‘HAHA’ LAWYER STORIES THAT YOU CAN REVEAL? I did once fall over the step outside the

Mullum courthouse going in to represent a client – stockings ripped, bloodied knees and hands, papers everywhere. I’m pretty uncoordinated sometimes.

WHY DID YOU MOVE TO BYRON? I’m from a small town

called Mungindi. I moved to this area after I finished boarding school so I could go to Uni to start my law and business degree. That was 16 years ago.

GOT ANY PARTY TRICKS? Sometimes I find myself riding my pushy backwards.

WHERE DO YOU GO FOR SOLITUDE AROUND HERE? Without giving too many secrets away, I either go to the beach or the mountains.

WHAT WAS YOUR BEST PROCRASTINATION TACTIC WHILE STUDYING LAW? I got a puppy. Her name is Bindi, she’s

a border collie and she’s now 13 years old. She doesn’t demand as much attention anymore but she stills gets at least two beach walks per day. To see how it is that Jess moves around the shire as a lawyer, visit: jhmobilelawyers.com.au.
