Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

JUST BEFORE MERCURY, THE MESSENGER,

moves into down-to-earth and serious Capricorn on Saturday, he forms a fiery trine to Uranus. This is your chance to instigate an inspired discussion, say the stuff you have been holding back, or to take a chance and bring your innovative ideas out into the open and onto the next level. A Sun/Neptune sextile on Saturday encourages a creative, idealistic and compassionate approach as well. This visionary stimulation is well-timed and brings upli ment to the very Capricornian New Moon on Sunday, when five planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Saturn and Pluto) are in the mountain goat’s territory. They mean business, strategic planning and structured, methodical work. This New Moon is a partial Solar eclipse which is not visible from here. As always, the time between the Solar eclipse and Lunar eclipse in two weeks, is a time full of tension, endings and new beginnings. A Venus/Chiron water trine, also on Sunday, focuses on the healing power of love and the creative expression of feelings. It comes as a reminder that ambition and success do not necessarily bring fulfilment to the heart. On Monday Venus moves into passionate and freedom-loving Sagi¢arius where she resides until early February. She is slowly building an exciting fire trine with Mars in Aries, which is exact on the 19th of January, just a couple of days before the Lunar eclipse. Issues about independence, liberty and autonomy might become important, especially in a challenging relationship. A Mercury/Mars square on Tuesday might set you up with inner tension or outer conflict about these issues. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES

The Prince of Swords is keen to liberate the mind, undo conditioning and live the life of a free-spirit. With him on your side you won’t respond well to any restrictions or to someone who wants to remind you of your duties and tells you what to do!

h TAURUS

The Princess of Disks symbolises the creative force of the goddess in her gestation phase. She gives you great inspiration to incubate new creative ideas, a new lifestyle or identity. Concrete manifestation will happen when the time is ripe…

i GEMINI

The Strength Tarot card infuses your daily life with renewed passion and enthusiasm. Your creative power is at an all-time high and you may be inclined to take more risks than usual. You don’t care much about what others think about you and instead focus on your own ecstatic journey.

j CANCER

The Knight of Cups delivers good news and offers you a gi of some sort. With his generous and benevolent support you may be able to give great inspiration and upli ment to one of your loved ones. This is also a wonderful time for a romantic get-together.

The Death Tarot card represents profound change; o en it is neither wanted nor expected. Nevertheless you may have to go through a time of great upheaval and transformation during this eclipse season. Try to stay flexible and be ready to revise old habits and behaviour pa¢erns so you can have a fresh response.

l VIRGO

The 2 of Swords symbolises peace of mind and the emotional equilibrium that is possible a er you make an important decision. It may also point out that your inner balance is more important than forcing yourself into making a decision that is just not ripe yet.

a LIBRA

c SAGITTARIUS

The Fool Tarot card heralds a spontaneous and carefree time. A renewed zest for adventure brings the inspiration to go beyond your former limitations into uncharted territory. When you take a risk you anticipate success and so be it!

d CAPRICORN

With the Sun Tarot card providing radiant light and ample energy, and with five planets in your sign during the Solar eclipse, you may focus on business. While you are highly creative and productive, it is also important to remember the simple pleasure you can have with family, kids and friends!

e AQUARIUS

The 5 of Cups indicates a profound feeling of lack. Maybe you long for greater heart-fulfilment and for a more satisfying love-life. Holding on to feeling empty only gives you more of the same. See if you can use your disappointment as fuel for transformation and a new beginning.

The 8 of Wands indicates a busy time; lots of stimulation, communication and information to assimilate. You want results and you are ready to put all your energy behind the goals you have in mind. Starting off is easy, keeping the momentum is a li¢le bit harder. The time between eclipses is great for finishing off a project.

b SCORPIO

f PISCES

With the 4 of Cups drawn it may be time to re-evaluate a situation or relationship. There may be confusion about what you really want, and not all that gli¢ers is gold! Wishful thinking does not help either. Maybe you can use the time between eclipses for some soul-searching?

The Hanged Man pictures someone who is stuck in an unpleasant position. If you find yourself again and again confronted with selfsabotaging habits, now is the time to apply compassion and a new vision, rather than blame and self-depreciation. What advice would your best friend give you?

DEAR KEENWA, One of my most treasured establishments has recently closed down. I'm devastated. At one stage in between the late 70s and early 90s they even sponsored me and my fave past time, surfing. And the service staff! Most had masters in sociology by the end. Oh, the memories. DEAR TEARS OF WELFARE, Yes that place must have truly tripped out when they high-fived Uber Eats on their way out. How times have changed. I was a regular myself there, back when chucking in two bucks with a bunch of mates got you veggie spaghe¢i for ten and a keg to dance the whole night away at a bush doof in Suffo, back when the mushies on the local pizzas were truly magical, and Cenno practically paid you to live at Wategoes; pronounced wot-i-goes as it was formally known.

DEAR KEENWA, I'm new to the hood, and loving it. Byron has so much to offer but I have a massive dilemma, New Year's Eve. What to do, there's so many choices, but how to spend it like a local? - Love, light, and CO2 fumes

Here's an idea. Rent out your 950k house in Suffolk Park on Airbnb to piss off your new neighbours, and camp out at West Byron in the hope that you can stop the development just like the sticker on your Volkswagen SUV says. I know you're only against it because your own property value will drop, but you might just spot a koala! Unless it rains and you end up flooded in. You could also commit to making plastic free your new year's resolution all the time, not just when other people aren't looking.

TM

With Caitlin Cady

This week's mantra BE WILLING TO BE WRONG.

Wrongness is something we seem to dodge at all costs. We make an excuse, create a justification, redirect the responsibility to someone else...or even flat out lie. We associate wrongness with the pain of imperfection. We’re afraid of being wrong because we mistake it for failure. But that’s where we get it, well, wrong. Making mistakes and being wrong aren’t a disadvantage. Quite the opposite. In fact, hiding from your wrongness is a missed opportunity. Because all of your opportunity to learn, grow, and change rests in your willingness to be wrong. As Seth Godin puts it, “there’s a stop on the road to being right and it’s called being wrong.” When we own the fact that we don’t know the answer, or we made the wrong move, or said the wrong thing, or even admit that there might be another way, we create an opportunity for growth. If you never admit you don’t know, how can you ever learn more? If you never do it the wrong way, how will you ever figure out the right way? If you never break the thing how will you uncover the ways to make it be¢er? So stop hiding from being wrong. Being wrong is all right. In fact, admi¢ing we’re wrong actually activates our righteousness through the grace of curiosity. Curiosity helps us see things with fresh eyes. To find solutions. To create a be¢er way. To innovate, improve and maybe most importantly, to unify us (curiosity and empathy go hand in hand a er all). In short, curiosity unveils the path to healing, learning, growth and improvement. Also known as the road to being right. So stop fearing wrongness and start inviting it. Be teachable. Be curious. Be willing to be wrong.

O BOOKS FOR Y

This week's review

TITLE: The Alchemist AUTHOR: Paul Coehlo NUMBER OF PAGES: 208 EST. READ TIME: 4 hours and 13 minutes PRICE: $16.00 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: A young shepherd embarks on a

remarkable journey a er a fortune teller reveals that a recurring dream of his has a deeper meaning. Along the way he discovers riches that are even more special than the ones he first set out for.

WHO IT'S FOR: The Alchemist blurs the lines between

fiction and non fiction as it reads sort of like a self help book. In the best way. It’s for those in need of a li¢le bit of inspiration and who may be clouded by indecision and a lack of confidence.

WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: I can’t believe it took me so long to read this book. Consider The Alchemist a staple for any bookshelf. The advice and wisdom within its pages has touched so many and will continue to do so for generations. One of those books people talk about at dinner parties. Whatever your path, the story of the shepherd, his dreams and the obstacles he must face along the way is embellished with nuggets of gold that’ll stay with you for a long time. NOTABLE QUOTE: “Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second's encounter with God and with eternity.”

HOLIDAZE Bright ideas for the holiday break

The

s a m m a M PAPPAS THE

AND

Holiday tips with Kristin Hilton @KE.HILTON BEST SPOT TO TAKE THE KIDS TO EAT? We live

in Lennox, so we love to get takeaway pizza or fish & chips and eat on the grass near the beach, that way they can run wild!

HOW TO KEEP THEM INTERESTED? Between

the 3 of them (plus one on the way) they don’t get bored easily. They always seem to find things in nature to get their creativity flowing.

WHAT’S THEIR FAVOURITE ‘FREE’ ACTIVITY? They love the beach, they can be there for hours, swimming, collecting things, building sand castles. They also love the skate park.

BEST AND EASIEST THING TO COOK WITH THEM? They love making any kind of

10 BYRON BAZAAR

cake or cupcakes, I have a cake business so they are always trying to help.

MOVIE AND SONG RECOMMENDATIONS?

The movie of the month at the moment is Sing, they love it! The soundtrack is also amazing.

CRAFT ACTIVITY? Foot massage. Works

for the kids, and I'm quite partial to the same bribery in reverse.

TELL US IN THE SHORTEST WAY POSSIBLE WHY IT’S SO GREAT BEING A DAD? Any cra activity in my house is a hit but playdough is probably the one that entertains them for the longest, they use all my cooking trays and utensils and it entertains them for hours!

The Growlers at The Brewery

JANUARY 13TH, 7PM-10PM / BYRON BAY BREWERY California’s radical sons, The Growlers, are bringing all their Beach Goth glory back to Oz this summer. In a rollicking, majestic wave of movements all around the golden coast, be enthralled and amazed at the hypnotic tones of these champions. Sun bleached, booze fuelled, riff laden good times. Imagine, you, your favourite things and people at the beach on a perfect blue bird day, where you never get tired or feel like you want to end, well – these guys encapsulate that very exact feeling, through melodic wonder waves. See you there for a so woozy cheers as these guys take you for a whimsical spin.

Liam Stephenson @SNAZZIELAMA

LEARNING WHAT? Heaps of stuff. I’m a bit of a nerd like that. Just did a Wim Hof workshop with breathwork and ice baths. I am making natural health and cleaning products and planning some workshops in the new year to show people how easy it is. Permaculture, tantra, now I’m studying life coaching. I plan on doing something with it all one day.

RECENT TRAVELS? Just got back from a 2-year journey

around the world. Surfing Sri Lanka, yoga, tantra and pranayama training in India, Family hiking trip in Nepal, Tai chi and Taoist medicine training in China, road trippin’, festivals and national parks in USA, surf road trip in my van down Baja peninsula and the pacific coast of Mexico to finish up at a metaphysical and meditation retreat in Guatemala. Just a couple of years in the life of a snazzielama.

ICE BATH BENEFITS? Makes you more bad-ass, Speeds metabolism, helps to lose weight, reduces inflammation, alleviates depression, wakes you up, develops brown (good) fat, helps you break world records... checkout the Wim Hof documentary on vice. Do this with breathwork and intention and apparently you be healthy AF. YOU FEEL GOOD WHEN? I’m in alignment. I’m working towards my goals, staying fit and healthy and facing my fears and challenges. I love my family and friends and they are a huge part of my life and always try to make time for them. As well as, nature, surf, yoga, meditation, travel, party and learning new things. PODCAST RECOMMENDATIONS? Under the Skin with Russell Brand, Joe Rogan and success audio books.

ONE WORD FOR 2018? Balance. Keep an eye on ‘Save The Date’ columns to catch Liam’s workshops.
